Young has been having a decent spring, going 9-for-34 (.265) with three extra base hits. The 31-year-old figures to fill in as the team's fourth outfielder, though with Jacoby Ellsbury nursing an oblique strain Young could see some increased time early in the season.

Young agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million (plus incentives) contract with the Yankees on Saturday, ESPNNewYork.com reports. The deal will not be official until Young passes a physical.

Young was the Mets' big free agent signing last offseason, but he didn't even make it through the season, getting cut in August after hitting .205 with eight homers and 28 RBI in 88 games. He performed better after donning the pinstripes at the end of the year, hitting .282 with three homers and 10 RBI in 23 games. He will likely serve as the Yankees' fourth outfielder behind Carlos Beltran, Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner.

Young signed a minor league contract with the Yankees on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.

The Yankees' immediate plans for the outfielder are unknown, but Young will likely make an appearance in the majors once rosters expand in September. Prior to his release by the Mets on Aug. 15, he contributed a .205/.283/.346 line with eight home runs, 28 RBI, 31 runs scored, and seven steals across 254 at-bats.

Young has been released by the Mets.

Now a free agent, Young will look to latch on with another club, although it's possible that he'll have to settle for a minor league deal despite getting $7.25 million guaranteed from the Mets this offseason.

The Mets designated Young for assignment Friday night.

The move was announced after Friday's game against the Phillies, while the expectation is that Young will be replaced by Matt den Dekker on the Mets' roster. Young hit .205/.283/.346 in his only season for the Mets after signing a one-year deal during the offseason.

While a move may not be imminent, the Mets are debating internally whether or not to release Young and bring Matt den Dekker up from Triple-A Las Vegas. Young has hit just .205/.283/.346 this season and has only about $2 million remaining on his contract.

Young is out of the Mets' lineup again Friday, Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports.

Make it three straight days on the bench for Young, who started nine times in a 10-game stretch from July 26 to Aug. 5. Kirk Nieuwenhuis will draw the start in left Friday, and it seems manager Terry Collins will alternate between Young, Nieuwenhuis and Eric Young Jr at the position moving forward.

Young is out of the Mets' lineup again Thursday, Newsday's Marc Carig reports.

Young will sit for a second straight day after a stretch of nine starts in 10 games for the Mets. Eric Young Jr. will man left field and bat ninth against right-hander Jordan Zimmermann, but Young still seems like the slight favorite for playing time at the position.
