Mon Jul 10 202315:09J.D. Martinez Heads Into The Break On A Homer Binge
Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez has been on a tear at the plate recently, going deep in three of his last four games heading into this week's All-Star break. However, to begin the month of July, Martinez has gone only 6-for-31 (.194) with the three home runs, one double, six RBI, five runs scored and 11 strikeouts in eight games. The five-time All-Star has been a great source of power for fantasy managers in his first year with the Dodgers. Martinez is currently hitting .255 (73-for-286) with 22 home runs, 20 doubles, two triples, 62 RBI and 43 runs scored in 314 plate appearances and 73 games. If Martinez manages to stay healthy in the second half of 2023, he should easily reach the 30-homer mark for the first time since 2019.

Wed Jun 28 202300:06J.D. Martinez Joins 300-Home Run Club Tuesday
Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez had a historic evening in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Rockies. The veteran went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a solo HR, the latter being the 300th of his career. Martinez is the 156th player in Major League history to achieve this feat. He has had a solid season overall, slashing .258/.304/.579 with 18 HR and 51 RBI. While he is only eligible for a utility spot, Martinez is well worth the roster spot in all fantasy leagues.

Thu Jun 15 202318:33Max Muncy, J.D. Martinez Not In Lineup On Thursday
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy (hamstring) will miss his third straight game while designated hitter J.D. Martinez sees a rest day on Thursday versus the Chicago White Sox. Muncy is out of action with a left hamstring strain and claimed the ailment was of the "low-grade" variety earlier on Thursday, per Foul Territory. The 32-year-old has dodged the injured list for now, but fantasy managers will need to continue to keep an eye on Muncy's status ahead of a weekend series with the San Francisco Giants. Expect to see Martinez back in the lineup on Friday, as he is merely getting a breather after an 0-for-12 slide.

Wed May 24 202314:39J.D. Martinez Looking To Stay White-Hot Wednesday
Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez will look to continue a torrid stretch Wednesday as he takes on right-hander Bryce Elder and the Atlanta Braves. Martinez has clubbed four homers over his last four games -- including three over his last two -- while driving in nine runs over that time. Additionally, Martinez will carry an eight-game hitting streak into Wednesday's action with at least one hit in 12 of his last 13 contests. Interestingly, he has just one multi-hit effort in all of this but is still hitting .261 with nine homers and an .881 OPS across 34 games on the season. Considering his .410 xwOBA is superior to his .366 wOBA, Martinez has indeed been mashing the baseball in his first season with the Dodgers in his age-35 campaign.

Fri May 12 202312:01J.D. Martinez Comes Off Injured List
The Los Angeles Dodgers activated designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) from the 10-day injured list on Thursday night. It was always a possibility that the Dodgers would get Martinez back for another crucial three-game series against the division-rival San Diego Padres this weekend, and now it's official. The 35-year-old veteran slugger didn't go on a minor-league rehab assignment, so it will be interesting to see if his timing is off at all upon his return. Fantasy managers should expect Martinez to be back in Friday's starting lineup against Padres left-hander Blake Snell. In his first 23 games as a Dodger, Martinez has hit .250 (22-for-88) with nine doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBI in 98 plate appearances.

Wed May 10 202308:43J.D. Martinez Could Be Back Friday
Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) is just about ready to return from lower back tightness that has kept him out of action for the past couple of weeks. Manager Dave Roberts said that the 35-year-old will face live pitching in the next couple of days before a possible Friday activation from the injured list. The power was there for Martinez before he was shelved, as he slashed .250/.306/.534 with four long balls, 13 runs, and 15 RBI over 23 games. When the veteran is back with the team, that will likely mean fewer at-bats for David Peralta, who's underperformed so far through 30 games with a .198 batting average.

Fri Apr 28 202322:12Dodgers Place J.D. Martinez On Injured List
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) on the 15-day injured list on Friday with lower-back tightness. The move is retroactive to April 25. The good news for the Dodgers is that they also got back catcher Will Smith (concussion) and infielder Max Muncy (paternity list) for the start of the weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Hopefully, the 35-year-old Martinez will require a minimal stint on the injured list. In his first 23 games and 98 plate appearances in his first year in LA, the veteran right-handed slugger is batting .250 (22-for-88) with nine doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBI. Martinez needs to be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy formats until he returns.

Fri Apr 28 202319:05J.D. Martinez Remains Out On Friday
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder J.D. Martinez (back) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The veteran slugger will miss his fourth game in a row due to a lingering back issue. Martinez told reporters on Friday that his back is getting better and he plans to hit in the cage on Friday. There's still a chance that Martinez lands on the injured list. Fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on his status.

Fri Apr 28 202312:21J.D. Martinez Not Expected To Play Friday
Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) is still dealing with a lower-back issue and isn't expected to play for the series opener on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Martinez will be missing his fourth straight game this week and hasn't even swung a bat in a few days, so this is trending towards an injured list stint if the 35-year-old isn't able to return to the lineup for the weekend series against St. Louis. The good news for the Blue is that catcher Will Smith (concussion) is likely to come off the injured list on Friday to take over the DH spot with Martinez still hurting. In his first season with the Dodgers, Martinez has gone 22-for-88 (.250) with nine doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBI in 23 games.

Thu Apr 27 202312:05J.D. Martinez Not Progressing, Out Again Thursday
Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) isn't progressing and hasn't swung a bat in three days. He will miss yet another game on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Manager Dave Roberts said the team is hoping what started as a day-to-day injury won't require an injured list stint, but they'll have to wait and see how Martinez feels when the team gets home this week. The 35-year-old veteran slugger will miss his third straight game Thursday. David Peralta is the DH and will hit fifth against Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller. Fantasy managers need to prepare for the possibility that Martinez will miss extended time with his back injury. He's off to a .250 start (22-for-88) with nine doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBI in his first 23 games with the Blue in 2023.

Tue Apr 25 202318:26J.D. Martinez Sitting Out On Tuesday
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder J.D. Martinez (back) is being held out of Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The veteran slugger reportedly felt something in his back during Sunday's contest. The Dodgers are going to play it safe and have Martinez sit out for at least one game. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Martinez to miss significant time because of the injury. Michael Busch will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh versus right-hander Johan Oviedo on Tuesday.

Mon Feb 20 202311:06J.D. Martinez To Serve As Full-Time DH
Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez is expected to serve as the team's full-time DH in his first year with the team. In the first season of the universal DH in 2022, four Dodgers players appeared at the position at least 20 times -- Justin Turner, Max Muncy, Will Smith and Edwin Rios. With Martinez being the full-time DH, it will mean that Smith will just have more off days. "I don't expect J.D. to DH 162. But he's going to be the guy who's going to be in that position 99.9 percent of the time. So if there is a time Will doesn't play, it'll just be an off day" manager Dave Roberts said. The five-time All-Star's power took a big dip last year (16 homers), but he also had a career-high 43 doubles. Fantasy managers shouldn't exactly be writing him off just yet.

Sat Dec 17 202220:30J.D. Martinez Signs With The Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers signed free agent designated hitter J.D. Martinez to a one-year, $10 million contract on Saturday. He reunites with hitting coach Robert Von Scoyoc and former Boston Red Sox teammate Mookie Betts. After smashing at least 28 homers in four of the last five seasons, the 35-year-old is coming off a down year, slashing .274/.341/.448 with 16 home runs, 62 RBI, and 76 runs over 139 games for Boston in 2022. Martinez will slot in as the Dodgers' primary designated hitter and should hit in the heart of the order with a loaded lineup that includes Freddie Freeman, Betts, and Will Smith. Martinez is in an excellent bounce-back spot and could be one of the better values in upcoming fantasy drafts.

Sat Oct 1 202213:32J.D. Martinez Absent From The Lineup On Saturday
Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez is not in the lineup on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. This is just a day off for the 35-year-old veteran, who's been swinging a hot bat over the last five or so games. It's still been an underwhelming season for the slugger, who has a .271/.339/.438 batting line to go along with 14 home runs and 58 RBI across 520 at-bats. Xander Bogaerts is filling in at DH in Martinez's place.

Sat Sep 24 202211:22J.D. Martinez Retreats To The Bench Saturday
Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the New York Yankees. Martinez is just taking a day off on Saturday, but fantasy managers need to act accordingly and remove him from their lineups as well. The veteran right-handed slugger has just 12 home runs on the season and is hitting .254 (15-for-59) with a homer, five RBI, six runs scored and 17 strikeouts in 16 September games. Martinez isn't having the year that fantasy managers expected when they drafted him. Bobby Dalbec is the designated hitter and is batting seventh on Saturday against Yankees right-hander Domingo German. In 304 at-bats in 2022, Dalbec is slashing just .211/.282/.362 with 11 homers, 36 RBI, 38 runs and three stolen bases.

The 35-year-old had been solid before the injury, slashing .262./.311/.429 with two home runs, five RBI, and five runs across 45 plate appearances in his last 10 games. Mon Sep 5 202215:09J.D. Martinez Not Starting Against Rays
Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez is not in the starting lineup on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Martinez will start on the bench for the second straight day, but the Red Sox haven't given any indication yet that the 35-year-old slugger is dealing with an injury. Martinez is currently riding a four-game hitting streak in which he's gone 6-for-17 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored. Outfielder Tommy Pham is serving as the designated hitter on Monday and is batting leadoff against Rays right-hander Luis Patino. Pham has looked much better since being traded to the Red Sox, going 34-for-123 (.276) with four home runs, 15 RBI and 21 runs scored in 29 games. He'll be a nice DFS target in the leadoff spot.

Sat Aug 20 202214:21J.D. Martinez Back In The Lineup On Saturday
Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez is back in the lineup on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles. Martinez received a day off on Friday but he's slotted in as the team's DH on Saturday and batting fifth. The 34-year-old has really struggled over his last 15 contests, slashing just .173/.279/.212 with no home runs, six RBI, and an ugly 19:8 K/BB ratio. He's got a chance to get right against Orioles starter Kyle Bradish on Saturday.

Fri Aug 19 202215:28J.D. Martinez Resting Friday
Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. It appears that Martinez is just getting a normal day of rest. Make sure to remove him from your lineups. He could use it, as he's gone just 9-for-52 (.173) with no homers, six RBI and 19 strikeouts in 15 games so far this month to drop his season line to .273/.344/.429 with nine homers, 46 RBI and 57 runs scored in 442 plate appearances. Rob Refsnyder will serve as the designated hitter on Friday and bat seventh against Orioles right-hander Jordan Lyles. Refsnyder is hitting .309 in 94 at-bats for Boston this year, but he has very little pop (four homers) and is a low-upside DFS option.
