ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Hunter Pence has agreed to a minor league contract with his hometown Texas Rangers and will attend major league spring training.If added to the 40-man roster, Pence would get a one-year contract that pays a $2 million salary while in the major leagues.General manager Jon Daniels said Thursday that the 35-year-old outfielder, who played winter ball, has a long track record of being a great teammate and is a winning player.Pence dealt with a thumb injury early last season, when he played 97 games for San Francisco. He hit .226 with four homers and 24 RBIs, all career lows.The three-time All-Star played at Texas-Arlington, only a few miles from the Rangers home stadium. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Free agent right-hander Jason Hammel and infielder Matt Davidson have agreed to minor league deals with the Texas Rangers.The 36-year-old Hammel joined the Rangers on Friday, three months after the Kansas City Royals declined a $12 million mutual option and instead paid a $2 million buyout.Hammel was 4-14 with a 6.02 ERA in 18 starts and 21 relief appearances for the Royals. He was dropped from the rotation in early July after dropped six starts in a row, and set a career high for losses.Hammel is 96-114 with a 4.62 ERA while starting 298 of his 377 games over 13 big league seasons for six teams. He was 15-10 in 2016 for the World Series champion Chicago Cubs, but went 12-27 the past two years with the Royals.Davidson batted .228 with 20 home runs and 62 RBIs for the Chicago White Sox. He hit three homers on opening day at Kansas City.The 27-year-old Davidson hit 26 home runs in 2017. CHICAGO (AP) — Reliever Alex Colome was acquired by the Chicago White Sox from the payroll-shedding Seattle Mariners on Friday for catcher Omar Narvaez.The White Sox also declined to offer contracts to outfielder Avisail Garcia and Matt Davidson, allowing the pair to become free agents. And they agreed to a $1.55 million, one-year deal with outfielder Leury Garcia.Colome has 96 saves in six seasons with Tampa Bay and Seattle, earned $5.3 million this year and is eligible for salary arbitration. The 29-year-old right-hander was an All-Star in 2016 and became the first Rays pitcher to lead the league in saves in 2017 with 47. He was dealt to the Mariners last May.Colome was 7-5 with a 3.04 ERA and 12 saves in 17 chances last season, including 5-0 with a 2.53 ERA in 47 appearances for Seattle. He is eligible for free agency after the 2020 season.Narvaez, 26, hit .275 with nine homers and 30 RBIs last season, his third with the White Sox.Avisail Garcia — an All-Star in 2017 — was limited to 93 games last season because of discomfort in his right knee that led to surgery in October. He went from batting.330 to .236.Davidson hit .228 with 20 homers and 62 RBIs last season while being used primarily as a designated hitter and at first base. (AP) — Cincinnati outfielder Scott Schebler and Texas pitcher Matt Bush just missed the cutoff for salary arbitration eligibility, while Chicago Cubs pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. and Toronto pitcher Joe Biagini earned the final spots.The Major League Baseball Players Association said Thursday the cutoff for eligibility this winter is 2 years, 134 days of major league service, up from 2 years, 123 days last year. The top 22 percent of players by service time with at least two years but less than three are eligible for arbitration as long as they had at least 86 days this year. They join the older group of 3- to 6-year players.Players and teams are scheduled to exchange proposed salaries on Jan. 11, and hearings for those lacking agreements will be scheduled for Jan. 28 to Feb. 15 in St. Petersburg, Florida.Twenty-five players are eligible as so-called super-2s. The White Sox paid tribute to Harrelson with a couple different videos, and he fought back tears throughout the ninth inning of a 6-1 loss to the crosstown Cubs."I've enjoyed it. (AP) — Light-hitting Dee Gordon homered off Yusmeiro Petit in the 12th inning to break a scoreless tie and the Seattle Mariners beat the Oakland Athletics 2-0 on Wednesday to avoid a three-game sweep.Jean Segura had four hits to help the Mariners closed within 2 1/2 games of the A's for the second AL wild-card spot.Seattle's Mike Leake pitched eight innings of two-hit ball with six strikeouts and one walk.
