After stealing just two bases in his first 23 games with the team, he doubled his total on Tuesday and will likely be counted upon during the final month of the season to provide a burst of speed off the bench. With Jose Reyes gone, only Kevin Pillar and Pompey are threats to steal bases, making him a valuable commodity on the first place Blue Jays.

Pompey will return to Toronto four months to the day since his last appearance with the big club. He remains a top prospect for the Blue Jays, but he doesn't figure to see regular playing time with Kevin Pillar entrenched in center field and several other players on the roster capable of playing there as well.

After being called up on July 17, Pompey has gone on a six-game hitting streak for Triple-A Buffalo, going 11-for-24 over that span. While he still has a long hill to climb before making the majors again, the 22-year-old Canadian outfielder is trending in the right direction.

After a rough go in the majors at the start of the season and then an even tougher run in Triple-A, Pompey seems to be regaining his form for Double-A New Hampshire. Despite a scare after being struck in the head with a pitch in late-June, he's holds a 1.018 OPS in 25 games in New Hampshire. He will likely need to log some productive time in Triple-A before being called back up to the majors after this season's earlier failed stint.

At this time, there's no indication from the organization yet that they plan on having Pompey try his hand at tougher competition again.

Pompey was demoted from Triple-A to Double-A on Saturday, the National Post's John Lott reports.

He was slashing a woeful .209/.294/.253 with zero home runs and six steals in 102 plate appearances at Triple-A Buffalo. While Buffalo is one of the toughest minor league venues for hitters, those numbers still fall well short of expectations. Pompey should be able to get back on track at Double-A New Hampshire, but those stashing him in single-season leagues should take this demotion as a sign that he is not particularly close to getting back to the majors this season.

While it's encouraging to see that the injury won't cost him substantial time, Pompey will need to step up his performance at Buffalo before being considered for a return to the Blue Jays. He's slashing a weak .200/.288/.215 over his 16 games at Triple-A thus far.

Pompey has not seen any action with Triple-A Buffalo since last Tuesday due to a hyperextended knee, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.

The young outfielder is expected to take batting practice Tuesday and could be back in Buffalo's lineup by Friday. After breaking camp with the Jays and struggling, things haven't really gotten better for Pompey in the minors, as he's hitting just .200 with no homers and five steals through 16 games. However, he rocketed through Toronto's system last year on the strength of his hit too, so dynasty owners shouldn't lose faith over the small sample. If he can prove healthy and productive, Pompey could see more time in the majors at some point this year.

After his rapid ascent through the minors last season, one could have seen growing pains coming for the talented centerfielder, but Monday's performance is certainly a step back in the right direction for him.

An 0-for-4, two-strikeout showing in Friday's loss to Cleveland lowered Pompey's batting line through 23 games to .193/.264/.337. The 22-year-old enjoyed a meteoric rise through the Blue Jays' system last year, going from High-A all the way to the majors, but he proved overmatched as a regular and will now try to get things ironed out in the minors. Kevin Pillar will likely see everyday time in center once Jose Bautista returns to right field.

Pompey stole his second base of the season in a 0-for-2 effort at the plate in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Red Sox.

After stealing 43 bases across three levels of the minors last season29-for-31 for High-A Dunedin, 8-for-13 for Double-A New Hampshire and 6-for-6 for Triple-A Buffalohe's 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts for the Blue Jays this season. With a .200/.277/.360 slash line, Pompey isn't getting on base enough to have too many chances to steal bases and is still getting a feel for the major league game with 38 games under his belt. Pompey still has the speed to steal bases and it will be interesting to see if he starts swiping more bags as the season wears on.

Pompey is not injured and is merely getting a day off Tuesday, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.

The Blue Jays want to get Danny Valencia into the lineup, and a game in Fenway Park provides a nice chance to start the utilityman in left field. With his neck apparently a non-issue, Pompey will likely be back in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Boston.

After appearing to suffer a neck injury Monday night, Pompey is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Sportsnet's Barry Davis reports.

Given the team's current injury situation, it's unlikely the Blue Jays would choose Tuesday to give Pompey a healthy day off. It can thus be assumed Pompey is dealing with an injury, although the Jays have yet to provide any real information on the matter.

After a slow start to the season, Pompey now is riding a four-game hit streak and has a hit in six-of-seven. The three hits are the most in a game for him this season and ties a career mark. It will be interesting to see what Michael Saunders' return does to Pompey's playing time, but more performances like this one will make him difficult to keep out of the lineup.

Pompey - who had been hitting second in the order - struggled to begin the season, resulting in a slide back down the order. Josh Donaldson moved up to second in his place, though it's unclear if this will be an everyday occurrence moving forward.

Pompey launched his first home run of the season in Sunday's 10-7 victory over the Orioles.

After going hitless against the Yankees in the Blue Jays' opening series, Pompey got back on track against the Orioles with three extra-base hits and four runs scored. While his slash line currently sits at an ugly .136/.240/.364, Pompey is worth a stash in deeper leagues and is a very strong play in dynasty leagues as he looks to be the center fielder of the future for the team with some pop in his bat and speed.
