Pompey will start in center field and bat second in Friday's game against Bud Norris and the Orioles, Sportsnet's Barry Davis reports.
Pompey batted sixth or seventh in the Jays' first two games, before coming off the bench for Thursday's matchup with left-handed C.C. Sabathia. Russell Martin is resting Friday, so the rookie will get a prime spot in Toronto's batting order, despite his 0-for-8 start to the season. Pompey does have two walks and a stolen base thus far, with plenty more steals likely to come. He swiped 52 bags across four minor-league levels last season.

Pompey is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports.
With Pompey out Thursday, Kevin Pillar will slide over to center field, and Steve Tolleson will get the start in left field. Pompey has walked twice and has stolen a base this season, but he has yet to get a hit through six at-bats.

Pompey was told Tuesday that he will be on the Opening Day roster, Sportsnet's Barry Davis reports.
Given that he's expected to serve as the Jays' starting center fielder, Pompey probably wasn't too worried about whether or not he'd make the Opening Day roster. While it's only fair to expect some struggles at the plate, Pompey should be an excellent source of steals, so long as he's an everyday player. He owns a surprisingly strong .327/.364/.519 slash line this spring, with six extra-base hits (one homer) and three stolen bases over 52 at-bats.

Pompey went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Red Sox in Spring Training.
Pompey is having a strong spring, which has kept him in the driver's seat for the starting center fielder role. He struggled a bit when called up in September last season, hitting for a .231/.302/.436 slash line in 17 games with the Blue Jays after making a stratospheric rise through the minors last season. Pompey went from not seeing a single at bat above Single-A Lansing in 2013 to being a September call-up. Pompey's speedhe had 43 stolen bases in 50 attempts last season in the minorsgives him fantasy value from day one and makes him an intriguing pickup in all leagues as a source of steals.

Pompey will enter spring training with an opportunity to secure the Blue Jays' starting center field job, the Toronto Globe & Mail reports.
The switch-hitting Pompey ascended from High-A Dunedin to Toronto over the course of 2014, while the departure of Colby Rasmus via free agency and Anthony Gose via trade has paved the way for Pompey to start on Opening Day. Kevin Pillar will serve as Pompey's primary competition for the job, while it's likely that Pompey would hit at or near the bottom of the order if he's able to secure the job this spring. With the potential to be an excellent defender in center field, Pompey's glove could earn him steady playing time even if his bat takes some time to develop against top-level pitching.

Pompey was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in the Jays' win over Baltimore on Friday night.
After a highly successful run through the Toronto minor league system earlier this year (a .317 average with 43 steals) which saw him begin at High-A Dunedin and end up with an audition in the majors, Pompey has probably shown enough to receive some consideration as the team's centerfielder in 2015.
