3B Kaleb Cowart is a candidate to play winter ball and manager Mike Scioscia said Cowart would work mostly at second base. 2B/3B Kaleb Cowart singled in the seventh Sunday and now has a career-best eight-game hitting streak. Cowart looks active at the plate and shows some versatility on defense, too. He's been playing second base recently, moving over to third to strengthen the defense in late innings. The Angels would like to see Cowart become a regular, possibly at second although third is his best position.Detroit Tigers Player Notes

2B Kaleb Cowart made his first major league start at second base Saturday in Detroit. "We saw a little bit of him (there) in the spring," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He's worked hard at it. He can handle all the primary plays. The only thing he's lacking right now is the experience and understanding some of the angles that, as you've play it more you start to absorb. I would say right now, his primary position is third base. He's a Gold Glove caliber third baseman and we'll see where his versatility leads him." Cowart has played third and first in his brief career. Cowart hit his first home run of the season, a two-run drive to right in the third, and that was the winning blow in Los Angeles' 3-2 win at Detroit.

Cowart had his contract selected by the Angels on Tuesday and will bat ninth in his major league debut against the White Sox.
Cowart, who was once touted as one of the better prospects in the Angels' system, has turned it around at Triple-A Salt Lake this season after slogging through a pair of disappointing campaigns. He batted .365 in June and followed it up with a .347 average in July and has racked up 31 RBI since the beginning of June. The Angels designated Conor Gillaspie for assignment Tuesday in a corresponding roster move.
Tue Jul 29 201409:29Angels 3B prospect Cowart rips 4 hits, triple
Angels third base prospect Kaleb Cowart went 3-for-4 with a triple for Double-A Arkansas on Monday, raising his season line to .229/.301/.329.
After a breakout in 2012, Cowart has struggled to get his OPS above 650 while in his second season in Double-A. Cowart has more stolen bases and increased his walk rate, but he still isn't hitting for a good average or power, and the likelihood that he will reach the major leagues is decreasing.

Fri Jun 20 201418:30Cowart picks up first June home run
Angels prospect 3B Kaleb Cowart was 2-for-4 with a home run, triple and two RBI on Thursday for Double-A Arkansas.
The 22-year-old also drew a walk and scored four times in the game. After struggling to the tune of a .162 batting average and .523 OPS in May, Cowart has picked up the pace this month with a .262/.333/.393 batting line and improved 12-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 18 games. Unfortunately, he still looks like a far cry from the player he showed signs of becoming during his outstanding 2012 full-season debut, when he posted an .810 OPS with 54 extra-base hits and 103 RBI in 135 games between both Class-A levels.

Angels third base prospect Kaleb Cowart went 4-for-5 with a double for Double-A Arkansas on Wednesday.
After a hot start, Cowart has struggled, and is hitting .250/.313/.318 for the season. He has improved from 2013, but if he does not start hitting soon, he may never reach the major leagues.

Sat Apr 12 201409:56Angels 3B prospect Cowart off to hot start
Angels third base prospect Kaleb Cowart is hitting .370/.455/.556 through his first eight games of 2014.
Cowart has returned to Double-A Arkansas for 2014 after hitting a paltry .221/.279/.301 with 20 doubles, one triple, and six home runs to go with 124 strikeouts in 2013. His overall potential is limited, but if he continues to hit he could be in line for a promotion to Triple-A Salt Lake. If there is an injury that keeps David Freese out for a while, Cowart could make his major league debut in 2014.
