BOSTON (AP) — Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale will have Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, an operation that would keep him out the entire 2020 baseball season if and when it resumes after the coronavirus pandemic.“There’s no real way to sugarcoat this. The Seattle Mariners announced Tuesday that right-handed pitcher Ryan Weber was diagnosed with a stretch of the musculocutaneous nerve and there is no timetable for his return.Weber was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday and the team initially said he strained his right bicep. Following testing on Monday by team Medical Director E. Edward Khalfayan, a more specific diagnosis was released.Weber exited his first start for the Mariners after allowing one run and three hits in 3 2/3 innings during Saturday's loss in Toronto. During an at-bat against Ryan Goins, Weber shook his arm a few times. He then grabbed his arm when visited by a trainer and manager Scott Servais.The update to Weber's injury status is the latest medical issue for Mariners' starting pitchers.Ace Felix Hernandez was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder bursitis on April 26, James Paxton landed on the DL May 3 with a strained left forearm and Hisashi Iwakuma was diagnosed with right shoulder inflammation four days later.
