Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Aaron Civale (glute) threw a side session on Monday. Wed May 25 202221:38Aaron Civale Lands On The 15-Day Injured List
The Cleveland Guardians placed pitcher Aaron Civale (glute) on the 15-day injured list with a sore left glute. He exited his previous start early against the Detroit Tigers with a left glute cramp. Coming off his best start of the season, throwing 6 1/3 scoreless innings, the 26-year-old will miss the next few weeks. Civale has struggled this season, posting a 7.84 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and a 30:9 K: BB across 31 innings. Konnor Pilkington was called up from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move. Pilkington will start Thursday against the Detroit Tigers.

Fri May 20 202221:45Aaron Civale Leaves With Glute Cramp Friday
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Aaron Civale left with a left glute cramp during his Friday start against the Detroit Tigers. Civale fell while fielding a ball during the seventh inning. He remained in the game but only wound up throwing one more pitch before being replaced with one out in the seventh by Enyel De Los Santos. Civale was in the midst of one of his best starts of the year, having allowed just one unearned run over 6 1/3 innings of work while striking out three. The injury does not appear to be serious, leaving the door open for Civale to take his next turn through the rotation, provided he doesn't experience any setbacks.

Tue Sep 7 202118:23Aaron Civale Activated Off IL, Pitches Tuesday
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Aaron Civale (finger) was activated from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday and will pitch against the visiting Minnesota Twins. The 26-year-old right-hander has been sidelined since mid-June with a finger injury but has been cleared to return after a successful rehab stint. Civale's return is certainly good news for fantasy managers as he is sporting a 10-2 record on the season with a 3.29 ERA and 76 strikeouts.

Thu Sep 2 202109:16Aaron Civale Allows Two Runs In Solid Double-A Outing
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Aaron Civale (finger) had a strong rehab start at Double-A Akron on Wednesday. He pitched five innings and allowed four hits, one walk and two runs (one earned) while striking out six. It was his third start during this current rehab stint, but his first at Double-A. He made his previous start at High-A Lake County last week and pitched 4.1 shutout innings. Civale has been out since mid-June, but he appears to be nearing a return to the Indians. He should be rostered in all fantasy leagues as he could give managers a big boost in the playoffs. Over 15 games with the Tribe this year, he has gone 10-2 with a 3.32 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.

Tue Aug 31 202110:59Aaron Civale To Make Another Rehab Start On Wednesday
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Aaron Civale (finger) is scheduled to make another rehab start on Wednesday. He has allowed one hit over 6 1/3 scoreless innings through his first two rehab outings with Double-A Akron. Civale is coming back from a finger sprain and should be ready by early September. He was pitching extremely well before the injury, so fantasy managers should stash him if possible in fantasy formats.

Mon Aug 23 202110:06Aaron Civale Has Solid Rehab Outing
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Aaron Civale (finger) threw two innings of scoreless baseball while walking two and striking out two for Double-A Akron on Sunday. Civale is returning from a finger injury and will likely need a couple more rehab starts in order to build up his stamina before returning to the Indians rotation. Civale was leading the league in wins before the injury and will be a welcomed sign by fantasy managers upon his return, which will likely be during the fantasy playoffs.

Sat Aug 21 202117:04Aaron Civale To Make Rehab Start Sunday
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Aaron Civale (finger) will make a rehab start with Double-A Akron on Sunday, the RubberDucks announced Saturday on Twitter. Civale has been out since the end of June with a sprained middle finger, and just threw a two-inning simulated game earlier this week. Over 15 starts this season, Civale has gone 10-2 with a 3.32 ERA, 1.065 WHIP and 19.8 percent strikeout rate over 97 2/3 innings. He'll likely require another rehab start or two before he can return, but he should be able to rejoin the Indians in time to have an impact in the fantasy playoffs.

Sun Aug 15 202114:41Aaron Civale To Throw Simulated Game
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Aaron Civale (finger) is expected to throw a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports. Civale has been out since June 24 with a sprained middle finger, and this will be his first time pitching in game action since his injury. His return to the Indians will most likely come in late August. Civale was having a solid year for the Indians, posting a 3.32 ERA and a 10-2 record across 15 starts. However, his strikeout numbers aren't as high as fantasy managers would want, with a 19.8 K%. Still, he is a good fantasy pitcher in every format and should continue to be once he's back.

Fri Aug 13 202112:19Aaron Civale Threw Off The Mound
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Aaron Civale (finger) was able to throw off the mound at Progressive Field earlier this week. He is currently working his way back from a finger injury that has sidelined him since late June. Civale is likely to throw again and then probably go on a rehab assignment. The Indians could hopefully have Civale back in the rotation by the end of August. He was pitching extremely well before the injury and is someone worth stashing in fantasy leagues, assuming he's available.

Thu Jul 29 202115:24White flag: Indians trade 2B Hernandez to 1st-place Sox
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians probably can't catch the Chicago White Sox, so they're helping their AL Central rival. Cleveland traded second baseman Cesar Hernandez to the first-place White Sox on Thursday for minor league pitcher Konnor Pilkington — a move that signals the Indians are conceding the division. “We made the trade that we felt made the most sense for us and this is the direction we went,” Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said. "Just as we tried to be realistic in assessing where we are, we’re going to continue to do our best to win as many games as possible. “But the reality is the White Sox are a number of games in front of us and we’re intent on improving. If they didn’t acquire Cesar, we were pretty confident they were going to acquire another talented player from another team.” The White Sox, who lead the Indians by 8 1/2 games and open a series with them Friday, have been in the market for a second baseman since starter Nick Madrigal suffered a... CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians probably can't catch the Chicago White Sox, so they're helping their AL Central rival. Cleveland traded second baseman Cesar Hernandez to the first-place White Sox on Thursday for minor league pitcher Konnor Pilkington. The White Sox, who lead the Indians by 8 1/2 games and open a series with them Friday, have been in the market for a second baseman since starter Nick Madrigal suffered a season-ending hamstring tear June 10. In Hernandez, Chicago is getting a Gold Glove defender who can bat leadoff and drive in runs for manager Tony La Russa. The 31-year-old Hernandez is hitting .231 in his second season with the Indians with eight home runs and 47 RBIs in 96 games. "Cesar Hernández provides our club with a valuable combination of a power bat in the middle infield and Gold-Glove quality defense,” Chicago general manager Rick Hahn said. “Adding a player like Cesar gives Tony a strong and proven option at second base for the stretch run of the season and hopefully... The 31-year-old Hernandez is hitting .231 in his second season with the Indians with eight home runs and 47 RBIs in 96 games. Hernandez has always been viewed as the player most likely to be dealt before Friday's deadline because of the Indians' depth with middle infielders. Thu Jul 29 202112:04AP source: Indians trading 2B Hernandez to White Sox
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians are finalizing a trade that will send second baseman Cesar Hernandez to the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Thursday. The Indians are getting minor league pitcher Konnor Pilkington from the White Sox, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the teams are still working through details. The left-hander has pitched in Double-A this season. ESPN was first to report the agreement. The trading deadline is Friday, when Cleveland opens a three-game series in Chicago. The decision to deal the 31-year-old Hernandez to their division rival signals a concession by the Indians, who have managed to stay around .500 despite a slew of injuries. They're currently without reigning Cy Young winner Shane Bieber because of a shoulder issue and starter Aaron Civale, who was leading the league in wins earlier this season before hurting his finger in a start against the Cubs. Mon Jul 26 202117:23Indians claim LHP Alex Young off waivers from Diamondbacks
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians claimed left-hander Alex Young off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. Young went 2-6 with a 6.26 ERA in two stints with the Diamondbacks this season. He made 30 appearances and two starts before being designated for assignment on July 21. The Indians optioned the 27-year-old, a second-round pick from Texas Christian in 2015, to Triple-A Columbus. In three seasons for Arizona, Young went 11-15 with a 4.73 ERA in 62 outings — 24 starts. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Indians transferred right-hander Aaron Civale from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Civale has been out since June 21 with a sprained finger. Civale was 10-2 with a 3.32 ERA when he had to be removed from a start against the Chicago Cubs. He's scheduled to pitch a fastballs-only bullpen session on Tuesday, when the Indians get a better sense on when he might be back in their rotation. Cleveland opens a two-game series with St. Louis on Tuesday. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Thu Jul 8 202117:49Plesac back, starting for Indians after freak thumb injury
CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians starter Zach Plesac has been activated from the injured list and will make his first start since breaking a thumb in May while removing his undershirt. Plesac will start Thursday night against the Kansas City Royals as the Indians try to end a nine-game losing streak — the club's longest since 2012. Manager Terry Francona said the plan is for Plesac to throw “60ish” pitches in his first outing as he builds up arm strength. Plesac recently completed a rehab stint at Double-A Akron and is itching to help the slumping Indians. “He has been exemplary in his work, which is not surprising,” Francona said. "We’ve had people from other teams come to us and say, you know, watching this kid on the field, man, wow, that’s pretty special what he’s doing. “So that makes us proud. And we knew he wanted to pitch right away for us. I think we have an obligation though to make sure that guys can compete with health and not hurt themselves, so there was a reason we had him go twice... [More]

To make room for Plesac, the Indians optioned right-hander J.C. Mejia to Triple-A Columbus. The return of the 26-year-old Plesac is a much-needed boost to the Indians, who are still missing top starters Shane Bieber (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (finger). They aren't supposed to be back for several more weeks. Cleveland has also had several other key players out with injuries, the latest outfielder Eddie Rosario. He went on the injured list Wednesday with a strained right abdominal muscle. Plesac last pitched for the Indians on May 23 at Minnesota. After giving up five runs in 3 2/3 innings, he aggressively yanked off his shirt and injured his thumb. Plesac described the incident recently as a “weird series of events.” He's 4-3 with a 4.14 ERA in 10 starts. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Wed Jul 7 202112:28Indians' Eddie Rosario placed on IL with abdominal strain
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The injury-depleted Cleveland Indians placed outfielder Eddie Rosario on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right abdominal strain. Rosario, hurt running out a grounder in the second inning of Monday night’s 9-8 loss at Tampa Bay, joined a list of key players out that also includes starting pitchers Shane Bieber, Aaron Civale and Zach Plesac. Ramírez also left last Thursday’s game against Houston with right abdominal tightness, one day after fouling a pitch off his left cheek against Detroit. He sat out Friday’s game against the Astros. “We think it’s mild,” Cleveland president Chris Antonetti said. “That’s our best assessment at this point. We just felt with the continued lingering soreness in there it made sense to make the IL move, especially with the All-Star break and you’re not playing games for four days. It just seemed to make sense that now was the right time to give him a bit of a rest.” Plesac is scheduled to return and start Thursday night’s... [More]
