DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have cut ties with Zack Godley, giving the right-hander his unconditional release.Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire says the move was made Monday to give the 30-year-old Godley a chance to sign with another team.Godley is 37-30 with a 4.68 ERA in five major league seasons.He signed a minor league contract and had been in Detroit's player pool for workouts this month at Comerica Park.Godley won 15 games in 32 starts for Arizona in 2018, but made just nine starts last season for the Diamondbacks. Toronto claimed Godley off waivers in August, and he made six relief appearances for the Blue Jays. Godley won 15 games for Arizona in 2018, but he made only nine starts last season for the Diamondbacks. The Toronto Blue Jays claimed him off waivers in August, and Godley made six relief appearances for them.Overall in 2019, Godley was 4-5 with a 5.97 ERA.The rebuilding Tigers have signed low-risk contracts with pitchers in recent offseasons. PHOENIX (AP) — Relief pitcher Greg Holland, a three-time All-Star who led the National League in saves in 2017 with 41, was designated for assignment Wednesday by the Arizona Diamondbacks.Holland, in his ninth season and first with the Diamondbacks, is 1-2 with a 4.54 earned run average in 40 games. He has 17 saves in 22 chances, but saw his ERA climb from 2.33 at the end of June to its current number.He has allowed at least one earned run in seven of his last 13 appearances.Holland, 33, lost his closer's job after a blown save on July 26 and is the second D-backs reliever to be designated for assignment this week after Zack Godley on Aug. 5.
