Thu Jul 29 202111:26Nestor Cortes Effective In No-Decision
New York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes looked sharp in his outing against the Rays on Wednesday. Despite not factoring into the decision, Cortes pitched five innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits while issuing zero walks. The lefty struck out five, showing some solid control of the zone with a 28 percent CSW while inducing a fair amount of weak contact from the Rays' batters, who managed just an 85.2 MPH average exit velocity against him. Cortes has thrived for New York as a hybrid starter-reliever, pitching to a 1.93 ERA and 0.95 WHIP while recording a 39:10 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 32 2/3 innings. He figures to remain in the rotation until Luis Severino (shoulder, groin) returns from the injured list, giving him some streaming appeal depending on the matchup.

Thu Jul 29 202100:14AP source: Yanks reach deal to get slugger Gallo from Texas
All-Star slugger Joey Gallo is headed to the Bronx to give the New York Yankees some much-needed punch from the left side. The Yankees have reached a deal to get Gallo from the Texas Rangers, a person familiar with the trade told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday night because the move had not yet been announced and was subject to approval of medical records of the players involved. “Wow, a guy that can hit it out of any ball park. I don’t think he gets enough credit for the type of defense that he plays,” Aaron Judge said after the Yankees won 3-1 in 10 innings at Tampa Bay. “Also, just talking with Rougy and a couple guys that have played with him, man, what a guy that you want in you clubhouse, a guy that shows up everyday ready to play. He’s going to fight until the very end. If that’s true and it comes true that we get him, I think it’s going to be something special for our team," he said. Gallo, 27, should provide a powerful boost for the heavily... [More]

NEW YORK (AP) — New nameplates greeted Yankees players in their clubhouse ahead of the Division Series against Minnesota: "OCTOBER SAVAGES" is spelled out under each number, a reference to manager Aaron Boone's famous tirade at an umpire in July.As players worked out at Yankee Stadium on a summer-like Wednesday, Boone maintained many roster decisions have yet to be made."First, we'll go through the 13th pitcher and then what makes the most sense as far as what gives us the best option off the bench," Boone said before the workout. "We'll meet as a staff after the workout and hopefully finalize whether it's 12 or 13."Edwin Encarnación, who hasn't played since Sept. 12 because of a strained left oblique, appears set to return. The 36-year-old hit in a simulated game for the second straight day and homered off left-hander Jordan Montgomery."I think yesterday was a little confidence-builder for him as far as the ability to let it go and then coming in today feeling like he's ready," Boone said.Encarnación...
