The 24-year-old initially saw the bulk of the playing time after receiving the call-up in the beginning of May, but it appears his starts won't be as frequent for the time being, even if he remains the primary option.

Chris Iannetta has been in a funk all season, and while manager Mike Scioscia will give him a turn behind the plate Sunday, Perez looks to be the better fantasy option of the two at this time. Perez has helped his cause by getting off to a 5-for-14 start for his MLB career, with his five hits just one shy of what Iannetta has produced for the entire season.

Perez went 2-for-4 with a walk-off home run in a win over the Mariners on Tuesday.

It was quite a major league debut for Perez, who also had a single in the contest. Perez will serve as the backup to Chris Iannetta, but it's not inconceivable that the 24-year-old could begin to steal more time if he performs, as Iannetta is off to a rough start to the season, recording just six hits in 64 at-bats. Perez has tallied a .750 OPS with 22 home runs in seven minor league seasons.

Perez was recalled to the majors Monday.

Perez has gotten off to a great start with the bat in the minors, slashing .361/.418/.556 with two homers, 12 RBI, and as many walks as strikeouts (seven). The 24-year-old will get his first taste of big league action and will serve as the backup behind the plate to Chris Iannetta with Drew Butera designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
