Tilson was injured Tuesday in Detroit while chasing down a deep fly ball in center field. He left foot slipped and his leg bent awkwardly. CF Charlie Tilson was traded to the Chicago White Sox in a deal to acquire reliever Zach Duke. Tilson was the Cardinals' 10th-ranked prospect, according to Baseball America. While not a power hitter, Tilson was one of the fastest players in the Cardinals organization, and he is also good at hitting for average. He can hit to all fields, bunts well and is selective at the plate. He has the ability to play center field in the majors, but the Cards felt they needed help for their bullpen, and Tilson was the price they had to pay.

OF Charlie Tilson was acquired by the White Sox on Sunday in a deal that sent LHP Zach Duke to the Cardinals. Tilson, 23, was the Cardinals' second-round pick (79th overall) in the 2011 draft. The left-handed swinging outfielder is batting .282 with four home runs, eight triples and 34 RBIs in 100 games at Triple-A Memphis this season. He resides in Chicago in the off-season and attended New Trier High School in Winnetka, just 25 miles north of the White Sox's U.S. Cellular Field.

Tilson, 22, is slashing .295/.351/.380 with four home runs and 38 steals in 466 plate appearances with Double-A Springfield.

The speedy center fielder also has a very impressive 12 percent K-rate and 8.2 percent walk rate, so his approach seems to be quite sound. While Tilson has 38 steals, he has also been caught 14 times (73 percent success rate), so he may not be this prolific on the bases when he reaches the major leagues. Look for Tilson to spend most of 2016 at Triple-A with a big league debut coming in late 2016 or early 2017.

Tilson is 7-for-14 over his last three games for Double-A Springfield raising his season line to .279/.333/.343.

Tilson is a solid prospect for the Cardinals but is unlikely to find any time with the big league club until this September when the rosters expand. Even if he does keep developing nicely he probably won't be competing for regular playing time at the MLB level until the 2017 season.

Tilson went 1-for-4 Sunday for Double-A Springfield, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while also drawing a walk.

Tilson is one of the Cardinals better prospects and is off to a very good start, hitting .333/.377/.421 in 57 at-bats with just five strikeouts. If he keeps playing well he could find himself with Triple-A Memphis this summer with a September call-up not out of the question.
