Federowicz underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee Friday, San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Six months after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, Federowicz was forced to go under the knife again, this time to shave down some cartilage that was presenting issues. Federowicz completed a rehab assignment in July but was designated for assignment upon activation from the DL, ultimately finishing with a .179/.229/.346 batting line in 22 games with Triple-A El Paso. He's expected to be ready to go for spring training.

Federowicz was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Federowicz (knee) was activated from the 60-day DL and then designated for assignment, Padres play-by-play announcer Bob Scanlan reports.
Federowicz has been on the 60-day DL since March 26 and was supposed to compete with Austin Hedges for primary backup catching duties upon his return, but it looks like the Padres will stick with two catchers on their major league roster, leaving Federowicz on the outside looking in. Now that he has been DFA'd, it's unclear when or if he will find his way onto another major league roster.

Federowicz recently completed a five-game stint with Low-A Fort Wayne, where he went 5-for-16 with a home run and three RBI. Once he gets a few more games behind the plate at Triple-A, Federowicz could be activated from the DL and challenge Austin Hedges for primary backup catching duties behind Derek Norris.

Manager Pat Murphy indicated Sunday that Federowicz (knee) will go through extended drills this week, and could begin a minor league rehab assignment in 10 days, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.
Murphy also stated that Federowicz will require "a bunch" of at-bats before rejoining the Padres, meaning he could stay on his rehab assignment for a while. Even when he returns, Derek Norris will maintain the primary duties behind the plate, but Federwoicz should take over the backup spot in place of Austin Hedges.

Federowicz (knee) has begun hitting and lifting weights but will remain out through the All-Star break, The Union-Tribune reports.
Federowicz is working his way back from surgery on his torn meniscus back in spring training. The initial timetable for his return was three-to-six months, so a return before August would be somewhere in the middle of that estimation. Federowicz's return would likely send Austin Hedges back to the minors, but it doesn't appear that will happen for at least a month.

Federowicz (knee) will be able to start running in six weeks, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports.
That will be the three-month mark since Federowicz's right knee surgery. He should be able to return to action sometime this summer, but will be behind at least Derek Norris on the depth chart, which will limit his value.

The Padres placed Federowicz (knee) on the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Federowicz is expected to be out well beyond 60 days -- 3-to-6 months, to be exact -- after undergoing surgery for a meniscus, so Thursday's move was primarily made to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Jandel Gustave, who was claimed off waivers by the Padres.
