Fri Mar 13 201519:28Tim Federowicz: (Knee) Out 3-6 Months After Meniscus Surgery
Federowicz underwent surgery on his torn meniscus Friday and will be out 3-6 months, Jeff Sanders of the Union Tribune reports.
The surgery uncovered a significant tear in Federowicz's meniscus that will keep him out for a huge chunk of the season. He was part of the trade that brought Matt Kemp over from the Dodgers and had a good shot at winning the backup catcher job coming into spring training. The fact that he'll be out for so long may force the Padres to make a move for another catcher, but for now, Wil Nieves will fill that role.

Federowicz's MRI on his right knee unveiled a lateral meniscus tear, Corey Brock of Padres.com reports.
The severity of the injury will likely require future arthroscopic surgery but the Padres have not yet given a timeline for when that might occur. Wil Nieves should take over backup catching duties behind Derek Norris in the event that Federowicz sees extended time off the field.

Fedorowicz (knee) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.
According to Brock, Federowicz was on crutches when he arrived to the clubhouse on Monday due to discomfort in his right knee. Federowicz reportedly had a leg up on Wil Nieves for the Padres' backup catcher spot, but that will change if the MRI uncovers a significant injury.

The deal will send Federowicz, along with outfielder Matt Kemp, to San Diego, in exchange for Yasmani Grandal, Joe Wieland, and a third player to be named. If he's able to cement a spot on the Major League roster, Federowicz will compete with incumbent Rene Rivera for playing time.
Mon Sep 1 201416:50Federowicz recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday
Federowicz was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.
Federowicz is coming off yet another excellent season at Triple-A, but his .328 batting average and 14 homers over 78 games likely owes a huge debt of gratitude to the favorable parks of the PCL. His offensive production has never translated during multiple cups of coffee in the majors, and for that reason, he'll be little more than an insurance option behind A.J. Ellis and Drew Butera in September.

Federowicz is batting .314/.374/.536 for Triple-A Albuquerque.
Meanwhile, Drew Butera still couldn't hit sand if he fell off a camel and A.J. Ellis isn't much better at .199/.343/.247. Still, don't expect Federowicz to be anything more than a September 1 call-up.

Tue Apr 8 201419:00Tim Federowicz expects to be primary catcher
Tim Federowicz said Tuesday that he expects to be the Dodgers' primary catcher while A.J. Ellis (knee) is out.
It's possible Federowicz is just expressing confidence, but it's probably safe to assume he's been told to be prepared to play regularly. Drew Butera is also around but should remain in a backup role. Federowicz isn't bad with the stick and could have some deep league value while he's playing regularly.

The 26-year-old had been expected to serve as the primary backup to A.J. Ellis, though a brutal performance this spring where he hit just .077 (2-for-26) could be the cause for the demotion. Drew Butera will begin the season as the backup catcher for the Dodgers.
