Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays in the final game of the first half of the season. Murphy is getting a rest day, but not because he hasn't been producing at the plate. The 28-year-old backstop is off to a great start in July, going 8-for-18 (.444) in six games while homering in each of his last three contests. Murphy has been amazing for the Braves and fantasy managers so far in his first season in Atlanta, as he's slashing .306/.400/.599 with a .999 OPS, 17 long balls, 17 doubles, 55 RBI and 42 runs scored in 270 trips to the plate over 67 games. Tue Jul 4 202314:06Sean Murphy Starting On The Bench
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy will get a day off on Tuesday as the team takes on the Cleveland Guardians. Travis d'Arnaud will catch starting pitcher Kolby Allard and hit fifth in the batting order against Guardians right-hander Shane Bieber. It's likely a routine day of rest for Murphy, who has been one of the most valuable catchers in fantasy in his first year in Atlanta. He's on a modest five-game hitting streak with two home runs, two doubles, six RBI and four runs scored in his last 22 plate appearances since June 25. Overall, the 28-year-old backstop is hitting an impressive .294 (65-for-221) with 14 long balls, 48 RBI and 37 runs scored in 63 games (257 plate appearances). Bieber will be a tough matchup for d'Arnaud, who has eight hits (three homers) in his last 19 at-bats over five games.

Mon Jun 26 202317:09Sean Murphy Out Against Twins
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy will take the day off on Monday as the team faces the Minnesota Twins. Murphy returned on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds from a hamstring injury and went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk, but the Braves will give him another breather in the series opener against Minnesota. With Murphy on the bench, Travis d'Arnaud is doing the catching and batting fifth against Twins right-hander Sonny Gray. In his first year with the Braves, the 28-year-old Murphy has become a must-start catching asset in fantasy, as he's currently hitting .290 (60-for-207) with 12 home runs, 14 doubles, 43 RBI and 33 runs scored in 59 games played. He should be back in there for the second game of the series against Minnesota on Tuesday.

Sun Jun 25 202312:05Sean Murphy Returns To The Lineup Sunday
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy (hamstring) has finally returned to the team's starting lineup on Sunday to face the Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Levi Stoudt. He's starting behind the dish and batting fifth in the lineup. Murphy missed the team's last five games, but he was able to get in a pinch-hitting appearance along the way. Fantasy managers will want to get the 28-year-old backstop back in their starting lineups immediately, as he's been one of the most productive catchers in fantasy so far this year. The former Oakland A's catcher is currently slashing a strong .286/.383/.532 with a .915 OPS, 12 home runs, 14 doubles, 42 RBI and 33 runs scored in 58 games in his first year in Atlanta.

Murphy will miss his fifth straight game, but the good news is that he was able to pinch hit on Thursday. Travis d'Arnaud will continue to do the catching duties while batting sixth on Saturday against Reds right-hander Graham Ashcraft. Murphy apparently has been feeling better, so hopefully he'll be back in there on Sunday to face Cincinnati. The 28-year-old backstop has been extremely productive in his first year in Atlanta to this point, slashing .286/.383/.532 with a .915 OPS, 12 home runs, 14 doubles, 42 RBI and 33 runs scored in 235 trips to the plate over 58 games.

Thu Jun 22 202316:33Sean Murphy Won't Start Friday
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy (hamstring) won't catch on Friday in the series opener against the Cincinnati Reds, but he will be available to pinch hit like he did in the series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. Murphy is getting closer to catching again, but he's not quite there yet. In his pinch-hit appearance on Thursday, he struck out. The 28-year-old backstop is dealing with a mild right-hamstring injury and isn't expected to need a trip to the injured list. Fantasy managers should have him available at some point this weekend against the Reds. Murphy has been one of the best fantasy catchers so far in 2023, so he needs to be returned to all starting lineups once he rejoins Atlanta's starting lineup.

Thu Jun 22 202312:29Sean Murphy Could Return This Weekend
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy (hamstring) could return to the lineup at some point this weekend against the Cincinnati Reds, but he remains out for the series finale against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. Travis d'Arnaud is behind the plate again and batting sixth against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. If Murphy, who hasn't played since June 17, isn't able to play this weekend, there's a good chance he'll be put on the injured list. Hopefully that's not the case, as the 28-year-old backstop has been one of the most valuable catchers in fantasy in 2023. Murphy is currently batting .287 (58-for-202) with 12 home runs, 14 doubles, 42 RBI and 33 runs scored in 57 games in his first year in Atlanta.

Murphy has certainly made his presence felt in his first season in Atlanta, hitting .287 with 12 home runs alongside a .920 OPS across 57 appearances on the campaign. The backstop is playing at a high level overall in 2023, slashing an excellent .287/.385/.535 with 12 homers and 42 RBI. Travis d'Arnaud is catching Charlie Morton and cleaning up on Sunday. He makes for a very good streaming play in DFS and speculative waiver wire add in season-long leagues.

The right-handed slugger blasted a ball off the wall in the fourth inning, but suffered an apparent leg injury while running the bases. It seems like the team pulled him out of the contest as a precaution. Fantasy managers should expect an update on his status following the contest. Tue Jun 6 202314:49Sean Murphy Back In The Starting Lineup Tuesday
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy is back in the starting lineup Tuesday against the New York Mets and veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco. Murphy didn't start Sunday's game but ended up making three pinch-hit plate appearances. However, with the Braves idle on Monday, Murphy should be rested up for Tuesday night's divisional contest. Sun Jun 4 202313:59Sean Murphy Taking A Seat On Sunday
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It'll be veteran Travis d'Arnaud starting behind the dish and batting cleanup against Zac Gallen and the D-Backs. Murphy has a shot to appear as a pinch-hitter so he's worth leaving in your lineup, as most fantasy managers don't have two catchers on their roster anyway.

Wed May 31 202314:06Sean Murphy Getting A Rest Wednesday
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy is not in the club's starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against A's right-hander James Kaprielian. It's of little surprise to see the backstop getting a breather in an afternoon game following an evening contest Tuesday night. The Braves are wise to keep their prized catcher rested as he's been a monster at the plate, hitting .286 with 11 home runs and a .951 OPS across 46 appearances on the campaign. He's shown no signs of slowing down with a .930 OPS in the month of May while he continues to provide elite defense behind the plate. Travis d'Arnaud will take over behind the plate and hit cleanup in Oakland.

Fri May 26 202316:38Sean Murphy Getting A Breather Friday
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy is getting a day to rest on Friday as the team takes on the visiting Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Taijuan Walker. Murphy has now been out of Atlanta's lineup for two of the last three games, but it hasn't been for a lack of production at the plate. The 28-year-old backstop is in the midst of a seven game-hitting streak in which he's gone 8-for-27 (.296) with a homer and four RBI. The young catcher has been one of the better hitting backstops in the league in 2023, batting .274 (40-for-146) with nine doubles, 10 home runs and 36 RBI in 42 games played. Travis d'Arnaud will do the catching on Friday and will hit cleanup against Walker. Since returning from concussion issues on May 10, d'Arnaud is hitting .261 (6-for-23) with a homer and three RBI.

Wed May 24 202314:20Sean Murphy Getting A Breather Wednesday
Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy is not in Wednesday's starting lineup as the club takes on the Dodgers and right-hander Tony Gonsolin in Atlanta. It's a well-earned breather for the backstop who is enjoying a massive season in his first year with the Braves. The former Athletics catcher has clubbed 10 homers along with a .947 OPS and a .408 wOBA across 171 plate appearances on the season. However, his .441 xwOBA suggests he's been even better than his surface numbers while his production has been 57% superior to the league average, as per his 157 wRC+. Travis d'Arnaud is hitting cleanup while catching right-hander Bryce Elder Wednesday night.
