Mon Apr 18 202222:08Christian Vazquez Hits First Home Run Of The Season Monday
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez went deep for the first time this season during the club's 8-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Monday. He also added a single, two RBI, and two runs in four at-bats. Vazquez needed a solid day at the plate, as the veteran backstop's slashing just .208/.231/.333 with three RBI and three runs scored in seven games. He has yet to walk this season and has gone down on strikes seven times over 26 plate appearances. Vazquez doesn't provide that much fantasy value but shouldn't hurt the batting average and has some speed considering he's a catcher. In 2021, he hit .258 with six home runs, 51 runs, 49 RBI, and eight stolen bases across 138 games. If nothing else, Vazquez gets consistent playing time, appearing in 138 games each of the past two full seasons.

Sun Nov 7 202118:45Red Sox Exercise Christian Vazquez's Option
The Boston Red Sox exercised their $7 million team option on starting catcher Christian Vazquez on Sunday. Vazquez has played all 614 games of his career with Boston and will remain with the organization for the 2022 season. The 31-year-old hit a disappointing .258 with six home runs and 49 RBI in his 458 at-bats in 2021, but the Red Sox feel that he continues to offer enough on both sides of the ball to justify bringing him back at a reasonable price. Vazquez had a career-high 23 home runs and 72 RBI with a .798 OPS in 2019, and he followed that up with an .801 OPS in last year's shortened season. He does have some pop in his bat at the catching position in a strong offense, but Vazquez can also be streaky in fantasy.

Tue Oct 19 202122:28Christian Vazquez Scores Twice, Drives In Two In Game 3
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez has found his offensive game at the right time, as he had another strong playoff performance in Boston's 12-3 ALCS Game 3 victory over the Houston Astros Monday. Vazquez went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He now has three multi-hit performances in his last six games. After finishing the season with a .659 OPS in 138 games this year, this could be a good sign for his future fantasy value.

Sat Oct 16 202115:30Christian Vazquez Not In Lineup For Saturday's Game
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez will start game two of the ALCS on the bench against the Houston Astros, according to MLB.com. Vazquez slashed .258/.308/.352 with six home runs during the regular season and has hit .300 with a .750 OPS thus far in the playoffs. Kevin Plawecki will catch in his place with Nathan Eovaldi on the bump. The 30-year old backstop hit .287 with three home runs and a .349 OBP in 64 games this season. He was very strong at the dish after the All-Star break, posting a .792 OPS. Plawecki caught Nathan Eovaldi's last start, so it seems he's likely more of a personal catcher right now.

Mon Oct 11 202111:42Christian Vazquez Hits Walk-Off Two-Run Shot
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez did not start Sunday's Game 3 against the Tampa Bay Rays, instead entering as a pinch-hitter for Kevin Plawecki in the sixth inning to deliver a sacrifice bunt. After that, he went 1-for-3, with the one hit being a walk-off two-run home run off Luis Patino in the bottom of the 13th inning. Vazquez had not homered since September 1. After a down season at the plate, Vazquez is an unlikely hero, but a strong postseason could set him up for a rebound 2022, when he stands a chance to once again return top-10 catcher value.

Sun Sep 12 202100:30Christian Vazquez Reaches Three Times Saturday
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez reached base three times against the Chicago White Sox Saturday, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Vazquez has been an utter disappointment all season with a .665 OPS, but he's been swinging a better bat in his past seven games to the tune of a .379/.400/.517 slash line. That doesn't lift his prospects enough to make him a top-10 or top-12 option, but he could have equity in two-catcher formats.

Thu Sep 2 202100:08Christian Vazquez Homers, Adds Three Hits Wednesday
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez led the way to a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored. It's his sixth home run of the season, and his first since August 17. Before that, he hadn't homered since June 27. It's been a disappointing year for Vazquez, but there's still time for him to have a run as a top-10 catcher the rest of the way, though fantasy managers should wait to see if he catches fire before adding him to rosters.

Thu Aug 26 202114:47Christian Vazquez Tallies Two Hits In Wednesday's Loss
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez went 2-for-5 with an RBI in the team's 9-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. It was his third multi-hit game of the month. Vazquez has had a quiet year offensively, especially from a power perspective. He has hit just one home run since late June, despite seeing consistent playing time over the past two months. Over 109 games on the year, he has just five home runs to go along with a .343 slugging percentage. Last year, he hit seven home runs over 47 games while slugging .457. Vazquez's main attraction at this point is the fact that he's part of a potent Red Sox lineup. However, he simply isn't doing enough to warrant a roster spot in most fantasy leagues.

Wed Aug 18 202100:51Christian Vazquez Breaks Homerless Streak
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez had a 127 at-bat homerless streak before going deep in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the New York Yankees. Vazquez went 2-for-3 in the game with his fifth home run of the year. Vazquez has endured a dismal season by his standards, with a .650 OPS in 352 at-bats. He's ceded playing time to Kevin Plawecki, making him hard to justify rostering in fantasy leagues of any size. The only positive in his stat line is the eight stolen bases, but his last of those came on June 29. There are better options out there.

Thu Aug 5 202112:19Christian Vazquez Isn't Starting On Thursday
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez isn't in the team's lineup on Thursday ahead of a matchup with the Detroit Tigers and left-handed starter Tarik Skubal. Vazquez is hitting .258 with a .306 on-base percentage, four home runs, and eight stolen bases in 356 plate appearances this season. It'll be Kevin Plawecki who starts behind the plate. The veteran is batting sixth against Skubal and could be a useful streaming option in deeper leagues on Thursday. In 94 plate appearances this season, the catcher is batting .282 with a .344 on-base percentage and a home run.
