Former NBA swingman Ime Udoka has been hired as an assistant coach with the Spurs.

Udoka has seven years of NBA experience, including a cup of coffee with the Spurs in 2010-11, and he's also played in the D-League, France and Spain. His diverse experience and no-nonsense attitude should make him a perfect fit on Gregg Popovich's staff. We haven't heard a formal retirement from Udoka, but it appears his playing days are over.

Udoka was waived by the Nets just before the regular season started.

The New Jersey Nets waived swingman Ime Udoka on Friday.

Udoka has bounced around the league and may latch on somewhere else soon as an end of the rotation player. By waiving Udoka, it also means that Dennis Horner has grabbed the last spot on the Nets bench.

Udoka will serve as depth at the end of the bench and will not hold any sort of fantasy value barring a slew of injuries.

The Spurs could be looking at re-adding Ime Udoka on a 10-day contract in the near future.

They cut him on Wednesday, but have until Jan. 19 to sign 13th player. Whoever it is won't make a fantasy impact, but Udoka is probably at the top of their list.

The move is a little surprising as Udoka had appeared in 20 games this season as a fringe rotation player. There's a chance he'll be back with the Spurs once they don't have to guarantee his contract for the season.
