Sun Jan 29 201210:19Mehmet Okur (back) out on Sunday
Mehmet Okur (back) will not play vs. the Raptors on Sunday.
We still haven't heard the results of a recent MRI on Okur's back, but presumably he's just dealing with back spasms and remains day-to-day.

Sun Jan 29 201202:35Mehmet Okur 'probably out' Sunday
Mehmet Okur's back injury will likely keep him out of Sunday's game against the Raptors.
Avery Johnson said the team is concerned about his back and it would be surprising to see him play today. Results of his MRI are not in yet, and he could end up missing several games if he doesn't show improvement quickly. Shelden Williams, who had four points, seven boards and three blocks in Friday's start, would likely get the call in his place.

Fri Jan 27 201222:25Report: Mehmet Okur to have MRI on Saturday
Mehmet Okur (back spasms) will have an MRI on Saturday and we're calling him day-to-day.
MRIs don't always return information on back injuries, so owners shouldn't be looking to Saturday hoping for a lot of clarity. The bottom line is that Okur has not performed well enough to deserve ownership in most 12-14 team leagues anyway, though he'll be somebody to watch when healthy if you're desperate at center.

Fri Jan 27 201211:07Mehmet Okur a game-time call on Friday
Mehmet Okur (back spasms) is a game-time decision on Friday.
Okur has been battling back spasms all season and Friday is no different. He's averaging just 7.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this season on a putrid 37.4 percent and hasn't been able to establish himself as a fantasy asset in standard sized leagues despite Brook Lopez's absence. If he can't play, Johan Petro will likely draw the start in his place.

Sat Jan 14 201202:29Okur shows greater volume in start at center
Mehmet Okur moved back into the starting lineup on Friday, scoring 11 points on 5-of-13 shooting (1-of-7 from deep) with seven rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block in 40 minutes.
The Suns are a good matchup for Okur and the game was tight, explaining the heavy minutes. With the Nets heading to Utah for a big ol' reunion including Deron Williams, as well, we'd expect Okur to get as much run as he can handle. How much that ends up being is entirely up in the air given Okur's bad back.

Fri Jan 13 201219:58Okur to start for Petro on Friday vs. Suns
Mehmet Okur will return to his starting job on Friday against the Suns, sending Johan Petro back to the bench.
Okur is really only a 12-team option for those struggling at center. He's injury-prone and not all that productive, but he gives owners a fighting chance when he's settled into the lineup. If that can help you, give him a look.

Thu Jan 12 201201:18Mehmet Okur returns, comes off bench for Nets
Mehmet Okur returned from a back injury on Wednesday and came off the bench for eight points and three boards in 13 minutes.
Johan Petro started and had just four points and zero rebounds, so look for Okur to start again soon. And also don't be surprised if Okur deals with injury problems throughout the season.

Wed Jan 11 201214:43Mehmet Okur (back) says he'll play Wednesday
Mehmet Okur (back) is technically a game-time decision on Wednesday, but he says that he'll play.
Okur has missed the past two games and given his shooting woes he shouldn't be in any active lineups. He could still average 30 minutes per game while Brook Lopez is out, however, so keep an eye on his production in the coming weeks.

Tue Jan 10 201218:39Mehmet Okur (back) game-time decision Weds.
Mehmet Okur (back) went through a limited practice and is a game-time decision on Wednesday.
Okur had been previously aiming to return Wednesday. He has missed the last two games with the injury, but he's not on the fantasy radar right now anyway with how poorly he's played. He's averaging a putrid 6.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 treys on 37.7 percent shooting. Johan Petro will draw another start in Okur's place if he can't play.

Mon Jan 9 201210:52Okur (back) targeting return on Wednesday
Mehmet Okur (back spasms) will sit out again on Monday.
Okur is targeting a return on Wednesday vs. the Nuggets, and given his poor play this season (38 percent shooting) fantasy owners have no incentive to roll the dice. Johan Petro will continue to man the middle for the short-handed Nets.

Sat Jan 7 201218:16Mehmet Okur (back) out again on Saturday
Mehmet Okur will miss Saturday's game with back spasms.
The injury flared up during Friday's game -- he should be fine in a few days, but owners can expect random DNPs all season long. He's shooting 38% from the field in 26 minutes per game this season, and is basically hurting any fantasy owners who deploy him. By default, Johan Petro will step into the Nets' vacant center position.

Fri Jan 6 201219:40Okur leaves Friday's game with back spasms
Mehmet Okur left Friday's game due to back spasms and will not return.
Okur has chronic back injuries and this could end up setting him back. We'll update you as we learn more, and in the meantime Johan Petro will be the man down low for the Nets. Petro has not produced all that much when given the chance so far this year.

Fri Dec 30 201122:01Okur scores 15 points, hits three treys
Mehmet Okur scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting (including three treys) with five rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes on Friday.
Slowly but surely he gets on track and hopefully owners that stashed him were patient, as we think he'll only continue to improve as the Nets do. If Okur is available in your league, he's a must-add player if you need a center and all other teams should give him a look for the right to trade him to a team that does.

Thu Dec 29 201122:03Okur scores nine points in first start for NJ
Mehmet Okur moved into the starting lineup in Thursday's game against the Magic, scoring nine points on 4-of-9 shooting (including a three) with six rebounds and no other statistics.
Okur racked up five fouls in 26 minutes against Dwight Howard, and Okur's night should be viewed as a relative 'win.' The Nets desperately need his offense, and as a friend of Deron Williams we're thinking he holds his job here. If you need a center, taking a flier on Okur makes plenty of sense.

Thu Dec 29 201118:15Nets to start Okur at C on Thursday
The New Jersey Nets have moved Mehmet Okur into the starting lineup on Thursday vs. the Orlando Magic.
Okur may have his hands full with Dwight Howard in his first game as the new starting center, but this certainly will help his fantasy outlook. He gets to run with his former PG from Utah in Deron Williams, so there is some interesting potential with Memo here. A speculative add could be in order if he comes out firing tonight, but you also have reason to be wary because of his extensive injury history, most notably a back injury that lingered most of last season.

Tue Dec 27 201123:39Okur struggles again coming off the bench
Mehmet Okur struggled again on Tuesday in the Nets' blowout loss, scoring three points on 1-of-6 shooting (including a three) with two rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes.
He had five fouls, but this game was a disaster from the opening minutes and there's more to it than any one particular player. While owners are completely justified in dropping Okur for a hot free agent, we could also see Deron Williams strongly advising Avery Johnson to start his friend Okur, who is lost with a listless second unit. We'd call Okur a roster stash at best right now.

Tue Dec 27 201118:14Okur to come off the bench again on Tuesday
Mehmet Okur will come off the bench again on Tuesday against the Hawks.
Okur was real quiet on Monday (no points, five rebounds, two assists) in 20 minutes, but he appeared to be moving around well and owners should expect some rust. Johan Petro will start again tonight and provided some very low-end fantasy numbers, but Okur is the guy to own here. If he was dropped after last night's dud be ready to pick him up.

Mon Dec 26 201118:23Mehmet Okur coming off bench for Nets
Mehmet Okur will come off the bench for the Nets on Monday, who will start Deron Williams, Anthony Morrow, Damion James, Kris Humphries and Johan Petro.
Okur should play plenty of minutes tonight and will eventually start over Petro. He should be owned in most leagues and can be started in many of those.

Thu Dec 22 201119:44Report: Mehmet Okur traded to Nets
The Utah Jazz have reportedly traded Mehmet Okur to the Nets for a future second-round pick and a trade exception.
Well the Nets just took care of some of their problems at center and it's possible that Okur could start immediately. He's coming off some serious injury concerns, but has looked very good in camp and over the offseason. He's worth a flier late in fantasy drafts, at least.

Tue Dec 20 201101:16Okur quiet in start against the Blazers
Mehmet Okur started for resting Paul Millsap (quadriceps) in Monday's exhibition against the Blazers, and finished with just two points, two rebounds, and three assists.
Reports have been positive coming out of camp, but he will not get enough minutes to matter in fantasy leagues. Enes Kanter, Al Jefferson, Millsap, and Derrick Favors are higher than him on the food chain. Okur's role will be to provide situational deep shooting -- not to be counted on in a fantasy league.
