Sun Feb 22 201511:49Marion dealing with painful hip injury for past couple of months
Marion has been dealing with a painful hip injury for the past couple of months, the Akron Beach Journal reports.
Marion has seen his playing time dwindle in recent weeks, even to the point of falling out of the rotation entirely. It was unclear why his play had been suffering, but this helps explain his recent demotion and level of play. He reportedly started feeling discomfort during the team's trip west in January, and has lingered since. It's possible that the ailment could bother Marion for the rest of the season, but as long as he is still hurting, he's not a reliable fantasy option in any format.
Thu Feb 12 201510:12Marion played just five minutes in Wednesday win over Heat
Marion played just five minutes in the Wednesday win over the Heat. He scored three points (1-1 FG, 1-1 FT) with a rebound.
Marion has seen his playing time shaved to a minumum. He did not see the court in the Saturday win over the Lakers and has played just 7.8 minutes in his last five games.

Marion moved into the starting line-up as LeBron James missed Wednesday's game against the Trailblazers with a wrist injury. However, Marion failed to score and only contributed a single rebound in nine minutes of action.
Marion is only averaging 19.3 minutes during January and has scored in double digits once during that period. There is no need for him to be on the fantasy radar in anything but the deepest of leagues.

Marion announced Wednesday that he will retire at the conclusion of the 2014-15 season, the Arizona Republic reports. "I wanted to go out on my terms," Marion said. "The biggest thing is having a son. I got attached to him. Seeing him periodically is hard. Watching him grow up on pictures and videos is hard."
Marion, who is in his 15th NBA season, admitted he considered retiring after last season but joined the Cavaliers for one last run at a second championship ring. The veteran was a member of the Mavericks' 2011 championship team, but he'll be best remembered for his days in Phoenix. Marion spent 8.5 season with the Suns after being selected with the ninth overall pick in 1999. He went to four All-Star games and helped lead the Suns to back-to-back Western Conference Finals in 2005 and 2006. While Marion's numbers are down considerably this season, as he's stepped into a reserve role, he currently holds career averages of 15.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.1 blocks. His best statistical season came in 2005-06, when he averaged 21.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 53 percent from the floor.

Marion (hip) returned to the lineup in Tuesday's loss to the Phoenix Suns, finishing with six points (2-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes off the bench.
Marion missed two games with a strained hip flexor, but was able to return Tuesday and play just under 22 minutes, which is right on par with his season average of 22.7 minutes per game. Considering he played a full minutes load on Tuesday, he should be over his hip injury and expected to play right around 20 minutes moving forward. The 11 rebounds were a season-high for him, but don't expect that to continue, as he's only reached double-digit rebounds one other time this season.
Tue Jan 13 201512:47Marion (hip) will play Tuesday against Suns
Marion (hip) will play Tuesday against the Suns, Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Marion will return to action after suffering a strained hip against the Rockets last Wednesday. He'll likely come off the bench to play his usual complement of 20 or so minutes, but that number could be slightly lower if LeBron James (knee) also gets the green light from the team's medical staff.

Marion (hip) will not play against the Kings on Sunday but plans on participating in Monday's practice, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Marion said Sunday that he's erring on the side of caution as to not risk further injury to his strained hip flexor. Assuming he practices Monday, there's certainly a chance that he'll return against the Suns on Tuesday.

Marion (hip) will be another game-time decision for Sunday's contest against the Kings, although he's considered doubtful after Saturday's practice, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Marion missed Friday's game against the Warriors and seems in line to miss another Sunday. If he does ultimately sit against the Kings, J.R. Smith will likely see extended time on the court yet again.

Marion is dealing with a hip strain and is considered doubtful for Friday's game against the Warriors, Sam Amico of FOX Sports reports.
This injury has flown under the radar, likely because it's not all too serious and Marion is need of some rest to prevent further injury. The 36-year-old will have a matchup against the Kings on Sunday to make a return to the court, that is if he ultimately does not play Saturday.

Marion scored 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-1 3P, 3-3 FT) with four rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench Sunday.
He split time about equally with Mike Miller and, provided Marion can stay healthy himself, he could have some short-term value in deep leagues while LeBron James (back/knee) remains sidelined.

Marion (ankle) came off the bench to provide seven points (2-7 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT) and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes in the win over the Hornets on Friday.
Marion missed the two previous games, but had one of his more effective games in the win. This was his first double-digit rebounding game. His contributions to the Cavaliers have been limited statistically, and will likely continue to be so.
Fri Jan 2 201518:46Marion (ankle) will not start Friday
Marion (ankle) will not start Friday, Cavs announcer John Michael reports.
He is expected to return to action after missing two games with an ankle injury, but Mike Miller will get the start at small forward, so Marion may be on a minutes limit.
Fri Jan 2 201510:27Marion (ankle) said he will play in Friday's game against Hornet...
Marion (ankle) said he will play in Friday's game against the Hornets, the Akron Beacon Journal's Jason Lloyd reports.
Kevin Love (back) also expects to return, after the Cavs played the last two games with very limited frontcourt options. Given that LeBron James (knee/back) remains sidelined, Marion will likely get the start and plenty of minutes Friday night.
Wed Dec 31 201418:19Marion (ankle) will not play Wednesday
Marion (ankle) will not play Wednesday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Chris Haynes reports.
This will be his second straight game sidelined with the ankle injury, and Matthew Dellavedova and Mike Miller will likely start on the wing, as LeBron James is also out. Consider Marion day-to-day for now.

Marion (ankle) is considered "highly questionable," per coach David Blatt, Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio reports.
Blatt called Marion, LeBron James (knee) and Kevin Love (back) all "highly questionable," so Cleveland could be extremely shorthanded in the frontcourt, as Anderson Varejao (Achilles) is already done for the season. If Marion sits, it will be his second straight absence.
Tue Dec 30 201418:19Marion (ankle) will not play Tuesday
Marion (ankle) will not play Tuesday, Turner Sports' Ethan Skolnick reports.
LeBron James is also out, so this will test the Cavaliers' depth on the wing. Mike Miller, James Jones and Dion Waiters all figure to see expanded roles against the Hawks. Marion rolled his ankle Sunday, and should be considered day-to-day for now.
Tue Dec 30 201413:09Marion (ankle) questionable to play Tuesday against Hawks
Marion (ankle) is questionable to play Tuesday against the Hawks, Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio reports.
Mario rolled his ankle in the second quarter of Sunday's blowout loss to Detroit but was able to return to the game. He played only 15 minutes, however, and has presumably been dealing with some swelling and discomfort. The veteran is essentially a game-time call at this point, and a final update likely won't come until close to Tuesday's 7:30 PM ET tip.

Marion (ankle) left Sunday's game in the second quarter with a sprained ankle but was able to return to action in the second half. He put up four points and three rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.
Marion was moved back into a bench role two games ago to get Tristan Thompson in the starting lineup at center. Given the Cavs' current roster, Marion will likely be stuck in a limited defensive role off the bench the majority of the season, making him difficult to own in anything but the deepest of leagues.

Marion is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Pistons after rolling his left ankle, Bob Finnan of The News-Herald reports.
Marion suffered the injury in the second quarter of the afternoon contest, and should be considered day-to-day until further notice. If he's unable to return, Mike Miller and Dion Waiters should continue to take on heavy minutes.
Fri Dec 26 201405:18Marion moved into starting lineup Thursday with Anderson Varejao...
Marion moved into the starting lineup Thursday with Anderson Varejao (Achilles) out for the season. Marion put up two points (1-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt), five rebounds, and one steal in 19 minutes.
The Cavs opted to use a small lineup that features Kevin Love at center and Marion at power forward, but the team's inability to protect the cup Thursday against an injury-depleted Heat team could force coach David Blatt to make changes heading into their next game.
