Sun Jan 22 202322:21Onyeka Okongwu Tagged As Questionable For Monday
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu (hamstring) has been given the questionable tag heading into Monday's contest against the Chicago Bulls. The 22-year-old big man was starting while Clint Capela was injured and still receives north of 20 minutes per game off of the bench. If he's unable to play, Frank Kaminsky and Jalen Johnson would likely see more action off of the bench. In deeper leagues, Kaminsky would probably be the better streaming option of the two.

Sat Jan 14 202307:02Onyeka Okongwu Dominates Against Pacers
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu took full advantage of Myles Turner's (back) absence on Friday and dominated under the rim against Indiana in a 113-111 win. He had an amazing start with 14 first-quarter points and ended up finishing with 18 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. He delivered four assists and also crushed it on the defensive end with two steals and four blocks The 22-year-old led the team with 39 minutes and enjoyed a 9-for-12 shooting night. Okongwu has done a superb job filling in for Clint Capela (calf), averaging 10.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks as a starter. On Friday, it was announced that Capela remains without a timetable, meaning there should be plenty of more big games in store for Okongwu.

Wed Dec 14 202218:57Onyeka Okongwu Returns To Bench Wednesday
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu will come off the bench Wednesday against the Orlando Magic. Fellow center Clint Capela (Achilles) is returning from a one-game absence which caused Okongwu to move back to his reserve role. Okongwu should have a 20-minute role off the bench, but his fantasy value is directly tied to Capela's health moving forward. Capela should have rest days and Okongwu would be on the streaming and DFS radar whenever Capela sits.

Thu Nov 10 202222:37Onyeka Okongwu Records Double-Double
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu made the most of his playing time during Thursday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The 21-year-old has been splitting playing time with Clint Capela at the center spot to begin the season. That being said, Okongwu hasn't produced great numbers because of the limited numbers. However, he was able to put together a strong performance in the win over the Sixers on Thursday. Okongwu finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks in 21 minutes of action. It was his first double-double of the season and hopefully not his last.

Tue Nov 1 202219:12Onyeka Okongwu Questionable Wednesday
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) is listed as questionable to play Wednesday against the New York Knicks. Okongwu is experiencing some soreness in his left shoulder and is danger of missing his first game of the season. Okongwu has carved out a decent role off the bench with an average of just under 20 minutes per game. If Okongwu were to sit, Clint Capela will likely see an increase in minutes with the starters while Frank Kaminsky and Jalen Johnson could see a small increase off the bench.

Tue Oct 11 202212:17Hawks Exercise Option For Onyeka Okongwu
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu had his fourth-year option picked up by the team on Tuesday. The 21-year-old big man registered 8.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.3 blocks while playing 20.7 minutes per game last season. His averages increased to 10.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game in his six games as a starter. Okongwu is likely to still come off the bench this season, but he'll receive enough minutes to be considered in fantasy leagues. He's already established himself on the boards and on defense, which has led to his increase in minutes from his rookie season to last season. Look for him to be a good contributor for both rebounds and blocks.

Wed Mar 2 202221:27Onyeka Okongwu Ruled Out For Thursday's Game
Atlanta Hawks power forward/center Onyeka Okongwu (head) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Chicago Bulls. The second-year big man suffered a blow to the head in Tuesday's game against the Boston Celtics. He went into concussion protocol after the incident and he won't be clearing protocol in time for Thursday's game. Okongwu has shown some flashes of fantasy potential, but hasn't earned enough minutes yet to truly break through. In February, he played 18.7 minutes per game and averaged 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 75.6% from the field. With Okongwu out on Thursday, Gorgui Dieng will be the Hawks' backup center behind Clint Capela.

Tue Mar 1 202221:51Onyeka Okongwu Exits Early On Tuesday
Atlanta Hawks forward Onyeka Okongwu (head) was unable to finish Tuesday's game against the Boston Celtics. He took a shot to the head in the second quarter and lands in concussion protocol. That being said, Okongwu won't return on Tuesday and could very well miss more time. His absence should mean more minutes for Gorgui Dieng. Despite the extra minutes, Dieng isn't worth rostering most formats right now. Fantasy managers should get an update on Okongwu soon.

Fri Jan 21 202219:17Onyeka Okongwu Remains Among Starting Five Friday
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu will draw a third consecutive start for Friday's game against Miami despite the return of Clint Capela (ankle). Okongwu has enjoyed a strong six-contest stretch (four starts), averaging 10.2 points, 7.2 boards, and 2.2 blocks while shooting 78.2 percent overall. His minutes figure to take a slight dip with Capela back in the mix, but the veteran will be on a minutes cap in his first game back. Okongwu's season-long viability takes a hit with Capela active, while his DFS prospects are likely dwindling beyond Friday's contest. The future is bright though for the 21-year-old, who should still draw interest in dynasty formats as a potential shot blocking weapon for seasons to come.

Mon Jan 17 202217:46Onyeka Okongwu Starts On Monday
Atlanta Hawks forward Onyeka Okongwu will move into the starting five for Monday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Clint Capela (ankle) remains sidelined, so Okongwu gets a shot in the starting lineup. He should be worth snagging in most formats as a streaming option right now. Okongwu will play roughly 30 minutes or so with the Hawks being shorthanded. There isn't a ton of upside with Okongwu, but he's worth a look as a possible streaming choice.

Fri Dec 24 202123:59Onyeka Okongwu Enters Protocols, Out On Saturday
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu won't play on Saturday versus the Knicks after entering health and safety protocols. This is an unfortunate development, mainly since the 21-year-old had recently returned after missing the beginning of the year because of right shoulder surgery. He was anticipated to serve a significant role on Christmas without Clint Capela, who's also carrying the same designation. As a result, Gorgui Dieng should handle more minutes than usual against New York, and he is worth a start as a streamer in seasonal formats. Dieng has value upside in DFS contests as well.

Thu Dec 23 202118:49Onyeka Okongwu Draws First Start Of Season Thursday
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu has been elevated into the starting five for Thursday's game against Philadelphia, marking his first start of the year. Okongwu made his season debut last week and has since appeared in two games as a reserve, combining for 18 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. His role with the starting unit comes as a means of combating the Sixers' Joel Embiid while Clint Capela (health and safety protocols) is sidelined. Okongwu played 19 minutes Wednesday, so while he will have some DFS intrigue due to his starting role, fantasy managers will have to keep workload expectations in check. He also holds short-term stream appeal in deeper season-long formats due to his shot blocking abilities.

Thu Dec 16 202114:32Onyeka Okongwu Recalled From G-League
Atlanta Hawks forward Onyeka Okongwu has been recalled from the G-League. That means, Okongwu should be available to make his season debut on Friday against the Denver Nuggets. This is good news, but fantasy managers shouldn't get too excited. Okongwu will likely be limited during his first few games back. He is expected to be the primary backup to Clint Capela. Although, he might not hold standard league value, but is certainly worth a look in deep leagues.

Tue Dec 14 202113:29Onyeka Okongwu Will Return Soon
Atlanta Hawks forward Onyeka Okongwu (personal) will return to the team later this week. He hasn't played all year after having shoulder surgery and is currently away due to a personal matter. Once he returns, Okongwu is expected to come off the bench behind Clint Capela. There should be plenty of minutes for him since the Hawks are shorthanded currently. Fantasy managers should check the waiver wire and see if Okongwu is available. He's a solid asset for rebounds and blocks, so worth monitoring in category leagues.

Thu Dec 2 202115:05Onyeka Okongwu Continues Making Progress
Atlanta Hawks forward Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) has been doing more live work lately, according to head coach Nate McMillan. He is nearing a return after undergoing surgery to repair a torn right shoulder labrum in July. The organization will have Okongwu head to the G-League to get in some 5-on-5 reps. It's uncertain when Okongwu will return to Atlanta, but this is positive news. He should take over as the backup to Clint Capela once he returns. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Okongwu over the next few weeks.
