The Pistons don't really need him now that Andre Drummond is back and starting. The absence of Maxiell makes Drummond a must-play option today.

Thu Mar 14 201302:18Jason Maxiell solid in return from sore ankle
Jason Maxiell returned to action on Wednesday from an ankle injury and had eight points and 14 rebounds in 32 minutes.
Maxiell has been hit or miss all season, and mostly a miss. He's just as likely to have three points and three boards as he is to have a big line, so we'd think about looking elsewhere for help off your waiver wire except in the deepest of leagues.

Wed Mar 13 201322:52Jason Maxiell returns to the lineup Wednesday
Jason Maxiell (ankle) has returned to the lineup for Wednesday's game.
He missed Monday's game the Pistons are very thin these days with Andre Drummmond (back) and Brandon Knight (ankle) not close to returning. Maxiell is worth a look in deeper leagues.

He's played 27.4 minutes per game in his last five and the Pistons are going to be thin up front against Utah. Jonas Jerebko will start and Charlie Villanueva will also get more playing time. Slava Kravtsov could also get an extended look.

Wed Mar 6 201322:32Jason Maxiell scores 14 points Wednesday
Jason Maxiell shot 7-of-12 from the field for 14 points in Wednesday's tough 87-77 loss to the Knicks, adding nine boards and two blocks in 37 minutes.
The Pistons needed all the minutes Maxiell could give and he held up his end of the bargain. Greg Monroe could miss more time, so he's worth a look as a short-term Bandaid in deeper leagues. Jonas Jerebko was also solid with 12 points, four boards, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 27 minutes. JJ is also worth a look in deeper leagues.

Jason Maxiell logged his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes against the Magic on Tuesday.

Sun Dec 30 201223:13Jason Maxiell notches second double-double
Jason Maxiell posted a skeletal double-double on Sunday with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
He made 5-of-8 shots and handed out three assists, just the sort of competent but uninspiring line we've come to expect from Maxiell. This was his second double-double of the year.

Wed Dec 19 201223:08Jason Maxiell's hot streak is over
Jason Maxiell had just six points, four rebounds and zero blocks in Wednesday's ugly loss to the Raptors.
Maxiell has gone from a rebounding and shot-blocking beast to a guy averaging eight points, three rebounds and less than a block over his last five. And while Lawrence Frank still doesn't sound like he's ready to give up and start Andre Drummond, it simply makes no sense for him not to. The Pistons are 7-21 and have lost six straight games, and replacing Maxiell with Drummond (6 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 20 minutes) makes sense on every conceivable level. Riding Maxiell was fun when he was hot, but it appears the party is over.

Sat Dec 15 201223:20Jason Maxiell lays a goose egg on Saturday
Jason Maxiell failed to score in 25 minutes against the Pacers on Saturday, adding three rebounds, two steals and no blocks.
Owners that have rode Maxiell the past two weeks most likely felt like they've been playing with house money and it was only a matter of time before he laid an egg. He did play 38 minutes on Friday, so those that picked him up might not want to abandon him unless it's for a hot free agent.

Fri Dec 14 201223:58Jason Maxiell scores 13 points in 38 minutes
Jason Maxiell scored 13 points with two rebounds, one assist and no blocks in 38 minutes against the Nets on Friday.
Max was coming off a six-block game on Tuesday, but tonight certainly isn't a down note with double-digit scoring in a season-high 38 minutes. It's worth noting that his free throw attempts have gone up lately and he's a career 56.4 percent shooter from the charity stripe. He was solid on Friday, as he shot 7-of-8 from the line and he is worth a look in most leagues.

Jason Maxiell caught fire on Tuesday, hitting 6-of-11 shots for a season-high 18 points, with six rebounds, a steal and a career-high six blocks in a tough loss to the Nuggets.
Maxiell was 1-of-10 for two points on Monday, but added 11 rebounds and two more blocks in that one. He's racked up 24 blocks in his last nine games and deserves a close look in all leagues while he's this hot.

Mon Dec 10 201221:59Jason Maxiell shoots just 1-of-10
Jason Maxiell shot 1-of-10 from the field for two points with 11 rebounds, one steal and two blocks in 26 minutes against the Sixers on Monday.
In his six December games, Maxiell has averaged over two blocks per game while averaging eight points and eight boards. However, his upside is capped a bit since coach Lawrence Frank said that the training wheels will come off of Andre Drummond in the future. Maxiell does have some value in deeper leagues, though.

Maxiell is having a block party for the Pistons and now has 13 blocks in his last three games. He is also logging 30.4 minutes in his last five games, which puts him in the discussion for ownership in some standard formats.

Sun Dec 2 201200:36Jason Maxiell goes off with 10 and 12
Jason Maxiell exploded on Saturday with 10 points, 12 boards, two steals and five blocks in 37 minutes against the Mavericks.
This was by far his biggest line of the year and the 37 minutes were a season high. Despite the big game, he is playing just 27 minutes per game and is only worth a look in most leagues.

Tue Nov 20 201209:16Jason Maxiell cementing place in lineup
Jason Maxiell is solidifying his place in the Pistons starting lineup.
Many fans and fantasy owners want to see more of Andre Drummond, but Maxiell is averaging 9.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in a starting role. In a contract season, it's not a surprise Maxiell may be playing with a little extra motivation. "The grind he plays with, that's part of his job description, it inspires the whole group," Lawrence Frank said. Owners in desperate need of a big man could give Max a look in deeper formats.

Sun Nov 18 201222:39Jason Maxiell scores 15 points in DET victory
Jason Maxiell's solid play continued on Sunday with 15 points, six rebounds, one steal and one block vs. Boston.
Maxiell made 5-of-10 FGs and 5-of-6 FTs in just under 30 minutes, and he's settling into a productive groove as the starting PF. And as long as Max and Greg Monroe are thriving, Andre Drummond's short-term outlook will remain dim.

Sat Nov 17 201201:08Maxiell scores 11 points with five boards
Jason Maxiell scored 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting with five rebounds, two steals, and one block in 31 minutes on Friday.
Max threw down a vicious and-1 dunk to bring the game within a point late, and has been playing very well lately with very little acclaim. He will eventually give way to Andre Drummond, but for now he should be owned in most 14-16 team formats.

Tue Nov 13 201200:48Maxiell scores 13 points vs. Thunder
Jason Maxiell scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting with seven rebounds, one assist, and three blocks in 30 minutes on Monday against the Thunder.
Maxiell is playing well, and in particular his screen work has distinguished himself from the rookie Andre Drummond, leading to more minutes. If you're in a 20-team league, give him a look.

Thu Nov 1 201200:11Jason Maxiell plays well in start
Jason Maxiell started at power forward and had 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes on Wednesday.
We'd like to see rookie Andre Drummond get Maxiell's job, but he played 13 minutes for two points, two rebounds and a block. As long as Maxiell is starting, he's worth a look in deeper leagues, while Drummond is going to need a lot more minutes than he had tonight to offer any value.

Thu Oct 11 201211:19Maxiell gets early start at PF for Pistons
Jason Maxiell started Wednesday's preseason game over Jonas Jerebko, who is also seeing time at small forward for the Pistons.
Maxiell had just seven points and three boards in 22 minutes, while Jerebko hit 5-of-7 shots for 10 points and four boards off the bench. Maxiell has limited upside as a starter after averaging seven points, six boards and a block in 42 starts last season, while Jerebko might be tough to own in fantasy leagues if he's coming off the bench. For now, it looks like it may be Maxiell's job to lose, while Charlie Villanueva is also going to steal some power forward minutes in Detroit.
