Karasev is dealing with an illness and will be a game-time decision for Friday's contest against the Wizards, the New York Post reports.

Karasev missed Friday's morning shootaround and is in doubt against the Wizards. If he's unable to play, his next opportunity to get on the court will be Saturday when the Nets face the Wizards for the back end of their home-and-home series.

With that streak coming to an end Wednesday, Alan Anderson or Bojan Bogdanovic figure to fill in at shooting guard. Bogdanovic has started 19 games this season, though Hollins said Tuesday that the rookie was "treading water" as a starter, which is why he made the move to insert Karasev.

Karasev hasn't had much success during his two starts for coach Lionel Hollins and it would be somewhat surprising if Hollins left him in the starting lineup much longer. If he's relegated to a role off the bench, it would seem natural for the 20-year-old to slot back down to the 10.4 minutes per game that he's averaging this season.

Karasev was slowed by a foot ailment to begin training camp, but has since appeared in all three of Brooklyn's preseason outings to date. Initially expected to practice Thursday, Karasev was on the sidelines for the second straight day as he continues to nurse a minor foot injury. He'll likely be back in the mix within the next few days, but at this point he seems destined for a deep bench role and could again spend time in the D-League.

Nonetheless, given his inexperience, the Russian also isn't anticipated to have a prominent role on the Nets this season and will likely spend time in the D-League to advance his skill set.

Sergey Karasev is happy that he was traded to the Nets.

"I want to prove to everyone that I just don't happen to be in the league," said Karasev, who spent most of last season in the D-League. "I loved Cleveland, but the move to Brooklyn, I believe, is a positive step. Andrei Kirilenko plays there. There's Mikhail Prokhorov and a lot of Russians. I'm sure I will be comfortable." Karasev will still likely be buried on the bench in Brooklyn, and he's not currently on the fantasy radar in standard leagues.

The Cavaliers traded G/F Sergey Karasev to the Nets in a cap-clearing move on Wednesday.

Karasev's inclusion was more about the math than on-court production, and the 6'7" swingman isn't likely to play more than a bit role under coach Lionel Hollins. After being drafted No. 19 overall in 2013, Karasev averaged only 1.7 points on 34.3 percent shooting a rookie -- lucky for him, Anthony Bennett's spectacular failure deflected most of the criticism away from Karasev.
