F Richard Jefferson and the Nuggets reportedly agreed on a one-year, $2.3 million contract. The 37-year-old Jefferson, who spent the past two seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, will join a young nucleus of rising stars that include center Nikola Jokic and guard Gary Harris in Mile High City.In a text message to the website The Vertical, Jefferson explained why he decided to join the Nuggets."I picked Denver because I believe in what they are doing and building and believe I can add and contribute on and off the court to their nucleus in a positive way," Jefferson said.Jefferson, who averaged 5.7 points per game in about 20 minutes per game last season, was traded over the weekend to Atlanta, where he was promptly waived.The Nuggets also added All-Star veteran swingman Paul Millsap in the offseason. Jefferson will compete for playing time with Millsap, Kenneth Faried and Wilson Chandler.

F aMarcus Aldridge agreed to terms on a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs, multiple outlets reported. The deal will keep Aldridge under contract with the Spurs through the 2020-21 season. Aldridge will opt into the $22.3 million player option on his 2018-19 contract, and the extension's new terms will start with the 2019-20 season. The 32-year-old Dallas native is set to make $21.4 million in the 2016-17 season.

F Marcus Morris will miss Tuesday's season opener against the Cavaliers due to right knee soreness, Boston coach Brad Stevens said on Sunday. The loss of Morris will require some lineup shuffling as the 28-year-old was the player in line to guard Cleveland star LeBron James. First-round pick Jayson Tatum may end up with the starting assignment in his first NBA game. Morris averaged 14 points and 4.6 rebounds in 79 games last season.

F Richard Jefferson, guard Kay Felder, two future second-round draft picks and cash considerations were traded from Cleveland to Atlanta on Saturday. In exchange, the Cavs acquired the draft rights to forward Dimitrios Agravanis and guard Sergey Gladyr.Sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that $3 million is going to Atlanta.The Hawks later requested waivers on Jefferson and Felder, and they will become free agents after clearing waivers. Jefferson was set to earn $2.5 million this season and Felder $1.3 million.The trade gets the Cavaliers' roster to 15 ahead of the start of the regular season on Tuesday. The Cavaliers will save $12.8 million in luxury tax by unloading the two contracts, according to ESPN."These situations and decisions are some of the toughest to be in and have to make. Certainly, both RJ and Kay are two guys we also wanted to have here with us this season," Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman announced from Cleveland Clinic Courts.The 6-7, 233-pound Jefferson spent the previous two seasons with the Cavaliers, playing in 153 games (18 starts) with averages of 5.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per contest. A member of the Cavaliers' 2016 NBA championship team, Jefferson appeared in 35 postseason games for Cleveland and averaged 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. The 16-year veteran originally signed with the Cavaliers on Aug. 5, 2015.

F Kawhi Leonard will miss the San Antonio Spurs' opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves as he continues recovering from a left quadriceps injury.

F Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had his 2018-19 contract option exercised by the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday. Hollis-Jefferson appeared in a team-high 78 games last season and averaged 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds. The 6-7 forward averaged 7.9 points and 5.7 rebounds as a rookie.

G Tony Allen, now with the New Orleans Pelicans, will have his number retired by the Memphis Grizzlies in the future, the team said on Thursday. Allen departed the team this summer and signed a one-year deal with the Pelicans for the veteran's minimum of $2.3 million. "Tony was a driving force behind the Grizzlies' seven straight playoff appearances and he remains a beloved member of the Memphis community," Grizzlies owner Robert J. Pera said in a statement. "Tony played with a level of passion that is unrivaled. He helped establish a Grizzlies culture focused on toughness and effort, and he challenged every player that put on Beale Street Blue to match his fiery intensity. Allen averaged 8.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game during his seven seasons with the Grizzlies. He also earned first- or second-team All-Defensive honors in six of those campaigns.

F LeBron James sat out practice on Wednesday and was ruled out for Friday's preseason game against the Orlando Magic due to a left ankle injury, coach Tyronn Lue announced.

G Andrew Wiggins signed a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday. Terms were not released by the team, but the deal is a maximum five-year, $148 million extension that will keep him obligated to the Timberwolves through 2023, according to multiple reports. The extension starts with the 2018-19 season. "I'm pleased that we've reached an agreement with Andrew on a contract extension," Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said in a statement. "Andrew is one of the best young players in the NBA and he has the talent and work ethic to get even better and be a foundation for our franchise for many years."

G Rajon Rondo underwent surgery for a sports hernia on Tuesday and will miss four to six weeks, according to the team. The Pelicans said the operation was to repair a core muscle injury. Rondo was injured in the first quarter of Friday's preseason contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 31-year-old Rondo signed a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the Pelicans in the offseason. He averaged 7.8 points and 6.7 assists for the Chicago Bulls last season.

C Joel Embiid has played in just 31 games over three NBA seasons but he has landed a big-money contract that typically goes to a star player. The promising 23-year-old agreed to a five-year, $148 million deal with the 76ers, who publicly announced the agreement on Tuesday. The team didn't confirm the financial package, which is the maximum allowed under the rookie wage scale and will reportedly grow by another $30 million should Embiid win MVP honors or receive All-NBA first, second or third-team recognition.

Philadelphia center Joel Embiid and the 76ers on Monday agreed to a five-year, $148 million contract extension -- the maximum permitted by the NBA's rookie wage scale.The extension could be worth as much as $178 million if Embiid meets certain criteria -- making all-NBA teams, for instance, during the length of his rookie deal.Embiid has played in only 31 games in three seasons since Philadelphia made him the third pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. C Joel Embiid was cleared for practice Thursday and looked strong in five-on-five drills. Embiid had surgery on his left knee to repair a torn meniscus on March 24. He told philly.com he was a little out of sync despite moving well and not having any limitations placed on him. He played in only 31 games last season after missing the previous two seasons because of surgeries on his right foot. In his only season at Kansas, Embiid suffered a stress fracture that prevented him from playing in the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments.

G Nicolas Batum will miss a minimum of six to eight weeks after tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, the club announced. An MRI exam on Thursday revealed the tear. There are fears that Batum could end up being sidelined for as long 12 weeks due to the injury that occurred 34 seconds after the start of Wednesday's preseason game against the Detroit Pistons. Batum averaged 15.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists last season in his second campaign with Charlotte. He is entering the second season of a five-year, $120 million contract.

F LeBron James (ankle) returned to practice Thursday. James participated through an entire practice as he continues to make progress from the left ankle he injured last week. Lue said it is possible James could even see playing time during Friday's preseason game against the Indiana Pacers. James suffered the injury during a practice on Sept. 27 when he stepped on the foot of rookie forward Cedi Osman.

G Iman Shumpert is expected to be sidelined seven to 10 days with a sprained left foot, the team announced Thursday. Shumpert sustained the injury while landing awkwardly after a missed dunk attempt during the first quarter of Wednesday's 109-93 preseason loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Shumpert averaged 7.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists while playing a career-high 76 regular-season games last season for the Cavaliers.

Dallas Mavericks guard Seth Curry is out indefinitely after being diagnosed with a stress reaction of his left tibia, the team announced Saturday. It was unclear when the injury occurred but he played in the preseason game at Orlando on Thursday night when he shot 4 of 14 from the field. The 27-year-old Curry was projected to start in Dallas' backcourt this season. The Mavs said Curry will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis.
