Wed Jul 25 201800:23Clippers re-sign free-agent forward Montrezl Harrell
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Clippers have re-signed free-agent forward Montrezl Harrell. He averaged 11 points and 4 rebounds in 76 games last season, while shooting 63 percent from the floor. The Clippers acquired Harrell in June 2017 as part of the blockbuster deal that sent All-Star guard Chris Paul to Houston.Harrell spent most of last season backing up All-Star center DeAndre Jordan, who left this summer for Dallas as a free agent. That should lead to a bigger role for Harrell in a rotation that has newcomer Marcin Gortat and Boban Marjanovic at center.Harrell played his first two seasons with the Rockets, who drafted him 32nd overall out of Louisville in 2015.Terms of the deal announced Tuesday were not disclosed.
Wed Jan 31 201820:10Pistons' Blake Griffin says he wants to be where he's wanted
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Blake Griffin described his reaction when he found out he had been traded."Shocked is a good way to put it," he said. "I didn't know anything. I pretty much found out when everybody else found out. It just kind of took a second to realize, OK, like, everything's changing."Griffin has arrived in Detroit now, and on Wednesday the Pistons introduced him and the two other players they received from the Los Angeles Clippers in the blockbuster deal earlier this week. Griffin, Brice Johnson and Willie Reed should be available to play Thursday night when Detroit hosts the Memphis Grizzlies, and that's when the idea of Griffin in a different uniform will really become a reality. The Pistons sent Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic and two draft picks to the Clippers. The trade came seven months after Griffin signed a $171 million, five-year contract to stay with Los Angeles — a fact that's been duly noted. Wed Jan 31 201804:30Griffin's departure leaves Clippers in free-agent hunt
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Suddenly, the Big Three is down to one. With star guard Chris Paul in Houston and face-of-the-franchise Blake Griffin traded to the Detroit Pistons, only DeAndre Jordan is left from the power trio that propelled the Los Angeles Clippers to relevance.Jordan becomes a free agent this summer and could be gone, too, if he isn't traded by the Feb. 8 deadline. Lou Williams, leading the NBA in scoring off the bench with 22.2 points per game in his 13th season, might be trade bait, too.Griffin's stunning departure on Monday — seven months after he signed a $171 million, five-year contract — has paved the way for the Clippers to have plenty of salary-cap room next season, putting them in position to snag a big-name free agent."With the future flexibility comes great opportunity," said Lawrence Frank, executive vice president of basketball operations. "It's going to be an exciting time, not just presently but also going forward."The once-beleaguered franchise has never lured a... [More]
