Mon May 8 202321:36Gary Payton II Starting On Monday Night
Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II will start on Monday night against the Lakers. With the Warriors down in this series, Payton will get some extra action in Game 4. The 30-year-old logged nine points, three rebounds, and one steal during his only start in the regular season. While he'll mostly be in the game for defensive purposes, he could provide value for DFS managers.

Thu Apr 20 202321:33Gary Payton II Ruled Out For Game 3
Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II (illness) has been ruled out for Thursday's Game 3 against the Sacramento Kings. He was originally listed as questionable for this game after missing Wednesday's practice. It sounds like Payton is still feeling under the weather, so he'll sit out this game. That's a tough blow to the Warriors defense with Draymond Green also on the sideline for this game. Golden State will be without two of their best defenders for this important playoff matchup. Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody will likely see increased playing time with Payton sidelined.

Wed Apr 19 202321:29Gary Payton II Uncertain For Thursday
Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II (illness) is listed as questionable for Thursday's Game 3 against the Sacramento Kings. This is not good timing with Andrew Wiggins (shoulder) and Jordan Poole (ankle) also on the injury report. During Game 2, Payton finished with 13 points and six rebounds in 27 minutes of action. His absence would leave a significant amount of minutes that need to be picked up. The committee of Donte DiVincenzo, Jonathan Kuminga, and Poole would likely be asked to step up if Payton is unable to play.

Fri Feb 10 202313:152023 NBA Trade Deadline Breakdown - Fantasy Basketball Impacts
The NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone and we had one of the most active deadlines in recent memory with some big stars being dealt. Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook are all heading to new teams and we have been covering those trades and their fantasy impacts here at RotoBaller. But there were plenty of other lesser-known players who were dealt in the last few days and I wanted to go through and make sure we don't overlook some of these trades as some of those deals may even have more fantasy impact than the big moves. So here are some other trades that went down and my two cents on the increase or decrease in value that we should expect from the players involved for the remainder of the 2022-2023 fantasy basketball season.

Moves That Matter

These are very much in order of how much they matter. Let's start with the Spurs sending their starting center back up North where he started his career.Jakob Poeltl to the RaptorsI am a huge Poeltl fan and was close to acquiring him on multiple teams before the deadline. It was a curious move by Toronto to be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline, but Poeltl gives them the presence at the five they have been lacking all season and allows Siakam to shift over and play PF where he belongs.Poeltl is no longer a shutdown candidate and has legit top-50 upside with his multi-category abilities. His departure also makes ... [More]
Sun Feb 5 202321:58Gary Payton II Probable To Play On Monday
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (illness) has been officially listed as probable for Monday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks as he's recovered from a non-COVID illness. This comes as great news as the seventh-year guard has missed most of the season so far and has been on the injury report more often than not. He still isn't on the fantasy radar just yet, but his presence also means fewer opportunities for Shaedon Sharpe off of the bench.

Thu Jan 19 202321:49Gary Payton II Officially Ruled Out
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (calf) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. This doesn't come as much of a surprise considering Payton was listed as doubtful heading into this game. His absence will mean more playing time for Shaedon Sharpe and Nassir Little. Neither of them should be considered reliable streaming options. Between the two, Sharpe is the better option, but is only worth looking at for desperate deep league managers.

Thu Jan 19 202321:25Gary Payton II Doubtful For Thursday
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (calf) is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. He has been battling left calf soreness, so it seems likely he'll miss Thursday's game due to the injury. His absence would mean more playing time for Shaedon Sharpe and Nassir Little. Neither player should be considered a reliable streaming option. Between the two, Sharpe is the better option, but he's only worth a look for desperate deep league managers.

Thu Jan 12 202321:56Gary Payton II Available For Thursday's Game
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (ankle) is available for Thursday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. As expected, Payton will be on the court for this game despite dealing with a lingering ankle issue. He played 15 minutes in their last game, but didn't bring much to the table. Shaedon Sharpe and Keon Johnson should be mixed in as well, which doesn't make Payton a great streaming option for Thursday's slate.

Tue Jan 10 202320:37Gary Payton II Available On Tuesday
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (ankle) is available for Tuesday's game against the Orlando Magic. He has been cleared to play after sitting out of Sunday's contest due to a sprained right ankle. Shaedon Sharpe and Keon Johnson will see less playing time with Payton back in the rotation. Neither of them are worth rostering with Payton back healthy. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Payton, assuming he can stay healthy. His defense alone could make him worth rostering, but he's more of a wait-and-see type of option right now.

Sun Jan 8 202314:36Gary Payton II Downgraded To Out
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (ankle) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Toronto Raptors. He was originally listed as probable, but it appears he's not feeling ready to play. His absence should mean significant playing time for Anfernee Simons. He'll be a stronger fantasy option with an extended role. Keon Johnson and Shaedon Sharpe should see more minutes as well, but aren't worth looking at as streaming options.

Sat Jan 7 202323:58Gary Payton II Likely To Play In Toronto
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (ankle) is expected to play on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors. The former Warrior finally made his 2022-23 debut on Monday versus the Detroit Pistons after undergoing core muscle surgery in the offseason. Unfortunately, he sprained his right ankle in that one, ending his night after only 13 minutes of action, keeping him off the floor in Portland's previous two games. While it's certainly good for the Blazers to get Payton out there, he will likely work his way back to a full workload, so he's a risky fantasy option until he demonstrates he's 100% healthy.

Fri Jan 6 202314:22Gary Payton II Questionable Again On Friday
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (ankle) made his season debut back on Monday after undergoing core surgery in the off-season, but he picked up an ankle injury that has kept him out of one game so far. He's still listed as questionable for the team's next game on Friday against the Indiana Pacers. His fantasy value is still to be determined since he's only played 13 minutes of one game, but in deeper leagues, he would be worth hanging on to as we all wait and see what kind of minutes he receives when healthy.

Wed Jan 4 202317:13Gary Payton II Earns Questionable Tag Wednesday
Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard Gary Payton II (ankle) has been deemed questionable to suit up for Wednesday's game vs. Minnesota due to a sprained right ankle. Payton made his season debut Monday after missing the first two and a half months due to core surgery, with his ankle ailment cropping up after 13 minutes of action. With Portland slowly working its offseason signing into the rotation, Payton can remain on the season-long waiver wire for now, but he would garner attention for his defensive production should his minutes consistently reach the 22-24 mark. An absence Wednesday could funnel a handful of minutes back toward Shaedon Sharpe.

Mon Jan 2 202313:27Gary Payton II To Make Season Debut On Monday
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (conditioning) is set to make his season debut against the Detroit Pistons on Monday. Payton has been sidelined all season while he recovered from offseason core muscle surgery. The expectation is that the Blazers are going to ease Payton into action. That being said, fantasy managers don't need to rush and grab Payton off the waiver wire. He was a key contributor off the bench for the Golden State Warriors last season. It's uncertain what kind of role he's going to have with the Blazers. Possibly, Payton holds deep league value, but it's hard to imagine him being able to produce 12-team league value.

Fri Sep 16 202221:08Gary Payton II Should Be Ready For Next Season
Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II (core) underwent surgery in July, but is expected to be ready for the beginning of the season. The 29-year-old was a useful option with the Golden State Warriors last season. The expectation is that Payton will play a key role off the bench with Portland. It's uncertain if he'll carry daily fantasy value, but could be someone worth looking at in deep leagues.

Thu Jun 9 202222:01Gary Payton II Not On The Injury Report
Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II isn't listed on the injury report ahead of Game 4 of the NBA Finals versus the Boston Celtics. He injured his elbow during the Western Conference Semis against the Grizzlies and recently returned for Game 1 of this series, although he has been riding a questionable tag. Still, the defensive specialist didn't play in the opener, and after receiving 25 minutes in Game 2, he got just 11 minutes of action on Wednesday night, with Otto Porter Jr. (foot) and Jordan Poole getting most of the work from off the bench. Head coach Steve Kerr has been known to tweak his rotation. But that doesn't mean Payton should be utilized by DFS participants, especially since his offensive upside is severely limited.

Tue Jun 7 202222:13Gary Payton II Questionable For Wednesday Evening
Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II (elbow) is questionable for Wednesday's playoff meeting against the Boston Celtics. The 29-year-old has carried the same designation before each contest during the Finals thus far. However, after not seeing the floor in Game 1, Payton got some action on Sunday night and finished with seven points, three rebounds, and three assists throughout 25 minutes. While it's certainly not guaranteed the defensive specialist will receive the same amount of work in Game 3 if he suits up, there's a good chance he will if Andre Iguodala (knee) can't play.

Sun Jun 5 202219:37Gary Payton II Active Versus Celtics
Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II (elbow) is available for Game 2 of the NBA Finals against Boston. Payton had a fractured left elbow, an injury he sustained during the series versus the Memphis Grizzlies. He managed to suit up for Game 1 on Thursday, although he didn't get any action. Nonetheless, with Andre Iguodala (knee) back on the shelf, Payton may get some work on Sunday evening, but it still doesn't mean he'll do anything for DFS managers.

Sun Jun 5 202200:51Gary Payton II Expected To Suit Up On Sunday Night
Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II (elbow) is questionable for Sunday's NBA Finals meeting with the Boston Celtics. After Payton injured his elbow during the series against the Memphis Grizzlies, he was finally healthy enough to suit up on Thursday night for Game 1. However, he didn't play, ceding work to the likes of Andre Iguodala (neck), Otto Porter Jr. (foot), and Jordan Poole. Both Iguodala and Porter are back on the injury report ahead of Game 2. Yet, they are likely to be in uniform, so Payton may be the odd man out again, assuming he is active.

Thu Jun 2 202218:12Gary Payton II Expected To Play In Game 1
Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II (elbow) is expected to be available for Thursday's Game 1 against the Boston Celtics. This is quite surprising considering Payton suffered a fractured elbow on May 3. It's unclear how many minutes Payton will play, but having him back on the court would be a plus for Golden State. He was able to practice on Wednesday, but remains a risky DFS option, assuming he does end up suiting up on Thursday.
