Wed Aug 1 201221:23Derek Lowe could lose rotation spot
The Indians are considering replacing Derek Lowe in the rotation.
Lowe was rocked for the third straight outing Tuesday and now holds an ugly 5.52 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 21 starts. "We talked," manager Manny Acta said. "But, we don't have anything settled yet. We're analyzing different things and options on how to proceed." The Indians have already replaced Josh Tomlin with Corey Kluber, and they seem likely to give Lowe one more start before replacing him with Roberto Hernandez.

Wed Jul 25 201222:28Derek Lowe falls to 8-9
Derek Lowe allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks in six innings of Wednesday's loss to the Tigers.
True to form, Lowe notched just one strikeout as he fell to 8-9 on the season. Quality in only two of his past five outings, Lowe has watched his ERA rise to 5.09 and WHIP soar to 1.64. His K/BB ratio is an absurdly bad 40/43 through 116 2/3 innings. There's no need to keep him around in mixed leagues.

Sun Jul 15 201215:52Lowe decent in loss to Blue Jays
Derek Lowe pitched decently in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays, allowing three runs on three hits over his six innings of work.
Lowe fanned five while walking four on the day. One bad inning doomed him, as the Jays strung together three hits, three walks and a pair of stolen bases to push all of their runs across in the third inning. Aside from that, he allowed just a walk in the sixth inning and nothing more. He'll take an 8-7 record and 4.43 ERA back home with him, where he'll take on the Orioles on Friday.

Mon Jun 18 201222:33Lowe rocked by Reds
Derek Lowe was shelled for seven runs on 11 hits and a walk over five innings Monday but escaped with a no-decision in a 10-9 win over the Reds.
He whiffed just two and gave up a homer to Joey Votto. Lowe had a 2.15 ERA less than a month ago, but he's predictably faded and now holds a 4.30 ERA and 1.58 WHIP for the year. He'll try for better results this weekend in Houston.

Wed Jun 13 201222:11Derek Lowe walks six in loss
Derek Lowe allowed three runs on five hits and six walks in six innings of Wednesday's loss in Cincinnati.
Lowe struck out four in falling to 7-5, and was lucky to escape with as little damage as he did. The six free passes tied a season-worst for the 39-year-old righty, while the quality start was just his second in four outings. He'll bring a 3.78 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and comic 28/26 K/BB ratio into his Monday start, where he'll get the Reds again, this time at home.

Thu Jun 7 201216:11Derek Lowe gets roughed up by Tigers
Derek Lowe dropped to 7-4 after giving up seven runs and nine hits in five innings against the Tigers on Thursday.
Lowe still hasn't had consecutive poor outings this season. It will be interesting to see how he fares versus the Reds his next two times out. He went 0-1 with a 9.72 ERA in two starts against them as a Brave last year.

Fri Jun 1 201221:45Lowe cruises to easy victory over Twins
Derek Lowe was in vintage form again on Friday, limiting the Twins to just one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Lowe struck out two and walked one on the night. He seemed to tire a bit in the seventh inning, allowing three hits and the lone run against him, which came courtesy of an RBI single from Brian Dozier. With the victory, Lowe improves to 7-3 on the season and lowers his ERA to a very impressive 3.06. While he's unlikely to continue pitching this well, he's worth owning and spot starting in good spots until he cools off. He'll look to keep rolling when he takes on the Tigers in Detroit on Wednesday.

Sat May 26 201219:38Derek Lowe ripped by White Sox
Derek Lowe was ripped for eight earned runs over just 2 1/3 innings in Saturday's loss to the White Sox.
We thought Lowe would begin to regress off his hot start, but he simply didn't have his stuff in this one. He gave up 10 hits and saw his ERA jump from a American League-leading 2.15 to 3.25. Lowe's 1.52 WHIP and meager 18 strikeouts in 61 innings are warning flags.

Thu May 10 201223:18Lowe solid again, picks up fifth victory
Derek Lowe continued his resurgence on Thursday, allowing just two runs on nine hits over six innings of work against the Red Sox.
Lowe struck out three and walked just one in the game. He now sits at 5-1 on the season with a 2.47 ERA and has been a large part of the reason that the Indians are currently leading the AL Central Division. While he's unlikely to keep up this pace, he makes for an interesting pickup opportunity for his start against the Twins in Minnesota on Tuesday.

Sat May 5 201222:22Lowe solid again in no-decision
Derek Lowe allowed just two runs on nine hits over six innings of work Saturday against the Rangers.
Lowe struck out two and walked one. He was on the hook for the loss before the Indians rallied late to tie the game in the eighth inning. The veteran is now 4-1 with a 2.39 ERA this season, and is looking like a solid matchup play in all mixed fantasy leagues at the moment. He'll square off against the White Sox next week.

Derek Lowe pitched very well against the Royals on Tuesday, allowing just one run on eight hits over six innings.
Lowe struck out five and walked only one in the game. He now sits at 3-1 as an Indian with a very respectable 3.00 ERA. He'll look to continue his strong start to the season when he takes on the struggling Angels on Sunday.

Thu Apr 19 201201:32Derek Lowe walks six, fans none
Derek Lowe got roughed up for four runs on eight hits and six walks in 4 1/3 innings of Wednesday's loss to the Mariners.
He notched zero strikeouts. It took three outings, but the 2011 Lowe finally surfaced for the Indians. He served up a pair of first inning home runs to Chone Figgins and Ichiro Suzuki. Lowe's ERA remains a solid 3.50 through his first 18 innings of work, but his WHIP (1.72) and K/BB ratio (3/7) are far more ominous. He's rapidly shaping up as a no-go for mixed leaguers.

Fri Apr 13 201219:36Derek Lowe gets early lead, beats Royals
Derek Lowe yielded three runs in 6 2/3 innings Friday in a victory over the Royals.
The Indians got Lowe seven runs in the top of the first, and Lowe made it hold up, even though he allowed 11 hits in his 6 2/3 innings. The important thing was that none were homers and he didn't walk anyone. Lowe is 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA.

Sun Apr 8 201216:36Lowe has solid Indians debut
Derek Lowe turned in an excellent Indians debut Sunday, allowing just two unearned runs on five hits and one walk in seven innings of Cleveland's 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.
Lowe's spring rib cage injury was not an issue as he needed only 95 pitches to record his 21 outs. He tallied just one strikeout in the process, but punchouts have never been Lowe's game. He's worth a season-opening flier in 12-14 team mixed leagues.

Fri Mar 30 201223:07Lowe says he won't begin year on D.L.
Derek Lowe (back) does not expect to begin the season on the disabled list.
"I'm a durable cat," Lowe said Friday. "Nine lives." Despite his color pronouncement, Lowe is unsure if he'll be able to make his scheduled Tuesday start in an exhibition game against High-A Carolina. His status should be updated early next week.

Fri Mar 30 201212:08Derek Lowe (ribs) could miss next start
Derek Lowe is questionable to make his final exhibition start after feeling pain in his right rib cage area during Thursday's start.
It was first reported as a back injury, but Lowe has clarified things. He's never been on the disabled list in his 15 major league seasons, and he doesn't think he'll need a stint this time, either. We'll have to see how he progresses over the next week, though.

Fri Mar 30 201210:54Derek Lowe left start with back spasms
Derek Lowe left his start Thursday after three innings due to back spasms.
It was originally speculated that Lowe might have been a little under the weather, but evidently he had a minor back issue. The good news, though, is that he's expected to be fine. "If this was the regular season, he could have kept pitching," said Indians manager Manny Acta. "But this is not the time to pushing through stuff like that." Lowe has never been on the DL in his 15 seasons, and this isn't going to be the injury to break that streak.

Thu Mar 29 201218:22Derek Lowe only goes three
Derek Lowe permitted two runs on three hits while striking out two over three innings Thursday against the Rockies.
The veteran right-hander's outing was cut short because he was a little under the weather, but he'll be fine. Lowe holds a 3.50 ERA over five starts this spring and will be counted on to provide innings this season for the Tribe.

Sat Mar 24 201220:37Lowe fans four batters in six innings
Derek Lowe held the Dodgers to two runs -- one earned -- over six innings Saturday in a spring start.
Lowe yielded seven hits, but he operated well in damage control, issuing no walks and fanning four Los Angeles batters. The veteran right-hander is sporting a cool 3.00 ERA and 1.20 ERA through four Cactus starts.

Wed Mar 14 201218:47Derek Lowe bounces back
Derek Lowe held the Giants to one run on two hits and a walk over four innings Wednesday.
He didn't strike anyone out and has a 1/3 K/BB ratio in nine spring innings, but overall he's pitched pretty well in two of three outings. The Indians are counting on Lowe to provide steady innings this season for their rotation, and he's nothing if not an innings-eater. The 39-year-old is likely to have more real life than fantasy value.
