Astros recalled OF Fernando Martinez from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Martinez picked up just one hit in 15 at-bats earlier this season for the Astros before suffering a concussion. He's had a nice year at Triple-A, though, batting .314/.367/.507 with 13 homers and 62 RBI. He should receive pretty regular playing time in the outfield.

Fernando Martinez underwent more tests Monday to gauge his progress from a concussion.
Martinez was placed on the 7-day disabled list earlier this month. He'll need to pass a concussion test before returning to action.

Sat Jun 2 201200:47Astros to recall F-Mart on Saturday
The Astros will recall outfielder Fernando Martinez from Triple-A Oklahoma City before Saturday's game.
No word yet on the corresponding roster move. Martinez, who was claimed off waivers from the Mets in January, is hitting .319 with eight homers and 38 RBI over his first 51 games at the Triple-A level this year. His star has faded due to knee problems, but it's easy to forget that he's just 23 years old. He's worth stashing away in NL-only formats.

Sun Mar 4 201217:00Fernando Martinez hits three-run homer in win
Fernando Martinez had a three-run homer, a double and a walk in three plate appearances in the Astros' 10-2 victory over the Nationals on Sunday.
Martinez might be too fragile to ever make anything of himself, but the Mets were crazy to give up on him when they still had D.J. Carrasco available to designate for assignment. It'd be a nice story if he can make the Astros this spring.

Wed Jan 11 201214:40Report: Astros claim F-Mart off waivers
Astros claimed OF Fernando Martinez off waivers from the Mets.
The Mets gave Martinez a $1.4 million signing bonus as a teenager back in 2005, but he hasn't met his potential due to number of factors, including an arthritic right knee and being rushed up the organizational ladder. We're not expecting things to suddenly turn around for the 23-year-old just because he's in a new organization, but this is a worthwhile gamble for the Astros.

Wed Jan 11 201213:10F-Mart to be claimed by NL Central team
Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports that Fernando Martinez will be claimed by a team from the National League Central.
Martinez, 23, was placed on waivers by the Mets earlier this week. Nothing official yet, but Rojas indicates that the Astros could be the claiming team. The former top prospect has an option remaining, so he could begin the season in the minor leagues.

Mon Jan 9 201216:26Report: Mets place F-Mart on waivers
According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com, the Mets have placed former top prospect Fernando Martinez on waivers.
The Mets need to clear two spots on the 40-man roster to make room for infielder Ronny Cedeno and outfielder Scott Hairston and Rubin hears that both Martinez and left-hander Daniel Ray Herrera have been placed on waivers. Martinez, 23, was once considered one of the most promising hitting prospects in the game, but a long list of injuries have stalled his career. Herrera was acquired from the Brewers last year as a player to be named later in the Francisco Rodriguez deal.

Mon Dec 19 201122:54Report: Mets considering trading F-Mart
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets "seem to be considering" unloading outfielder Fernando Martinez.
Martinez has been bothered by an arthritic right knee since undergoing surgery in 2009 and Puma hears it isn't getting any better. The 23-year-old outfielder was once considered one of the most promising hitting prospects in the game, but his stock has fallen significantly. No word on who may have interest.

Wed Jun 29 201123:32Mets recall F-Mart from AAA
Mets recalled OF Fernando Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo.
F-Mart will provide outfield depth for the Mets while Willie Harris takes care of his wife, who went into labor a month prematurely on Thursday night. The 22-year-old probably won't be in the major leagues long.

Fri Jun 17 201109:45Fernando Martinez suffers knee injury
Fernando Martinez had to leave Triple-A Buffalo's game in the bottom of the fourth inning Thursday with right knee soreness.
Here we go again. F-Mart has had an arthritic right knee ever since undergoing surgery on it back in 2009, and it's expected to be something the 22-year-old will have to battle for the rest of his career. He also spent time on the minor league DL earlier this season with a hamstring issue. It's not clear at this time how long he might be sidelined.

Fri May 27 201115:54Fernando Martinez optioned
Mets optioned OF Fernando Martinez to Triple-A Buffalo.
Martinez batted .263 (5-for-19) with one home run, two doubles and two RBI during his short stay with the Mets. He's being sent down so that he can play every day and in order to clear a roster spot for Angel Pagan. He'll be back at some point this season.

Thu May 26 201111:43F-Mart likely to be sent to minors
Mets manager Terry Collins hinted that Fernando Martinez will indeed be sent down to the minors when Angel Pagan is activated from the disabled list Friday.
"Again, I think this guy is one of our top prospects in our organization," said Collins. "And to have him sitting on the end of the bench, I don't think benefits him or us -- although it makes a better club knowing that we have that left-handed power sitting over on that bench, and they know it on the other side of the field also." F-Mart is batting .263 (5-for-19) with one home run, two doubles and two RBI during his stay with the big club.

Thu May 26 201110:02F-Mart or Pridie likely sent out for Pagan
The Mets will likely remove either Fernando Martinez or Jason Pridie from the active roster when Angel Pagan is activated from the disabled list Friday.
In other words, Willie Harris' place on the team is safe. Martinez makes the most sense to go, as he would be better served to play everyday in the minor leagues and has options remaining, while Pridie does not.

Thu May 19 201110:53F-Mart to DH Friday and Saturday
Fernando Martinez will be the designated hitter Friday and Saturday against the Yankees.
Carlos Beltran is set to be the designated hitter in Sunday's series finale, so Martinez could potentially play all three games during the series. He could be worth a short-term flier in NL-only leagues.

Thu May 12 201112:49Fernando Martinez will be bench player
Mets manager Terry Collins said Fernando Martinez will be used as a bench player but could see the occasional start in left and right field.
We figured F-Mart might see some time in center field while Angel Pagan is out, but apparently that won't be the case. Collins admitted that he would have rather promoted a first baseman over Martinez, but Lucas Duda and Zach Lutz are hurt and Nick Evans isn't performing. It figures to be a short stay for Martinez with the big club, as the Mets want to give him more development in the minors.

Fri Apr 15 201112:26Fernando Martinez lands on Triple-A DL
Fernando Martinez has been placed on Triple-A Buffalo's disabled list with a right hamstring strain.
It's not known at this point how long he might be sidelined. Mets GM Sandy Alderson has expressed a desire to keep F-Mart at Triple-A for most, if not all, of the 2011 season, after the 22-year-old had been previously rushed to the majors.

Sat Feb 26 201117:14F-Mart homers in first spring game
Fernando Martinez clubbed a two-run homer against the Braves on Saturday afternoon.
Martinez's two-run shot off Craig Kimbrel tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. We would be more impressed if Kimbrel was throwing with his usual velocity, but it's nice to see Martinez get off to a good start with the bat. The 22-year-old outfielder hit the cover off the ball during spring training last year, but underwhelmed at the Triple-A level before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Martinez's stock could rebound at any time, but he needs to actually stay healthy for a full season in the minors before we take him seriously again.
