Wed Jul 30 201400:39J.P. Arencibia homers twice, drives in seven
J.P. Arencibia had a ridiculous night at the plate Tuesday, finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI against the Yankees.
Arencibia connected on a solo shot in the fifth inning before blasting a grand slam in the seventh. His 12 total bases were a career high for a single game, and it was the eighth two-homer game of his career. The power has always been present, but his .183/.223/.404 line is what keeps him from being a fantasy option.

Wed Jul 23 201400:07Arencibia belts 13th-inning HR, but TEX loses
J.P. Arencibia broke a 0-0 tie in the 13th inning, his only hit in five at-bats, but the Rangers lost in 14 innings to the Yankees on Tuesday.
Arencibia took David Huff out to right-center to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the 13th, but closer Joakim Soria gave the run right back in the bottom half of the inning. Arencibia has had a miserable year offensively, but he has homered in two of five games since the All-Star break. He's slashing a terrible .139/.186/.291 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 86 plate appearances.

Fri Jul 18 201422:18Arencibia hits three-run homer vs. Blue Jays
J.P. Arencibia launched a three-run homer and scored two runs in Friday's win over the Blue Jays.
Arencibia played 20 games at first base with Triple-A Round Rock and made his first major league start at the position on Friday while facing his former team. He's not going to hit for average, but his pop could come in handy in AL-only leagues if he continues to get regular at-bats.

Thu Jul 17 201417:12Rangers call up Arencibia to play first base
Rangers purchased the contract of C/1B J.P. Arencibia from Triple-A Round Rock.
Arencibia hit just .133/.182/.233 over 66 plate appearances with the Rangers earlier this season, but now he's getting another chance. The difference this time is that he is expected to see most of his playing time at first base now that Carlos Pena has been designated for assignment. The 28-year-old appeared in 20 games there during his time with Triple-A Round rock.

Thu May 22 201408:48Rangers outright J.P. Arencibia to Triple-A
Rangers sent C J.P. Arencibia outright to Triple-A Round Rock.
Arencibia is now off the Rangers' 40-man roster. He was Texas' starting catcher on Opening Day because of Geovany Soto's knee injury but batted just .133/.182/.233 over 66 plate appearances and might not make it back to Arlington this season. A waste of $1.8 million.

Tue May 20 201416:34Rangers option Arencibia to AAA Round Rock
Rangers optioned C J.P. Arencibia to Triple-A Round Rock.
Arencibia was batting just .133/.182/.233 with 15 strikeouts in 20 games this season for the Rangers. Texas made a $1.8 million mistake on him in December.

Mon Apr 14 201423:55J.P. Arencibia gets yanked in seventh
J.P. Arencibia went 0-for-2, grounded into a double play and committed his second error of the year before being remove for a pinch-hitter Monday against the Mariners.
The Rangers shouldn't have signed Arencibia over the winter, they shouldn't have carried him after his awful spring (even with Geovany Soto hurt) and they shouldn't continue to keep him around now. Just admit the mistake and move on.

Mon Apr 7 201422:36J.P. Arencibia goes hitless in loss
J.P. Arencibia went 0-for-3 and had a passed ball Monday against the Red Sox.
Arencibia isn't one of those catchers who makes up for his poor hitting with strong defense, and all things factored in, he rates as one of the game's very worst players over the last year. He's off to a 2-for-16 start with no RBI in five games this season, so the Rangers may want to start going to Robinson Chirinos more.

Mon Mar 31 201410:52Arencibia to get bulk of starts with Soto out
J.P. Arencibia will get the bulk of playing time at catcher for the Rangers in the early going.
Geovany Soto is expected to miss around three months following knee surgery. Arencibia is not a good defensive catcher, but he swings a powerful bat and will be playing half of his games in a hitter-friendly park, so he could be a sneaky-good fantasy option.

Sun Mar 16 201422:14Arencibia connects on grand slam in victory
J.P. Arencibia belted a grand slam on Sunday, powering the Rangers to a 14-8 victory over the White Sox.
His sixth inning blast off Zach Putnam was the first ball Arencibia has knocked over the boards this spring. He's still hitting a paltry .156/.182/.344 through 32 at-bats to this point, and is being thoroughly out-played by Robinson Chirinos.

Tue Dec 10 201316:10Rangers finalize agreement with Arencibia
Rangers signed C J.P. Arencibia to a one-year, $1.8 million contract.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal passed along the contract details. The deal reportedly carries $300,000 in possible incentives. Arencibia was non-tendered by the Blue Jays last week after he batted just .194/.227/.365 this year, but the Rangers intend to have him back up Geovany Soto in 2014. He's unlikely to be relevant in mixed fantasy leagues.

Fri Dec 6 201312:39Rangers reach agreement with J.P. Arencibia
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers have reached an agreement with J.P. Arencibia.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported late Thursday that a deal was close, and now it appears a passed physical is all that it needs to be complete. The Blue Jays non-tendered the free-swinging Arencibia earlier this week, but he lands in a nice situation in Texas. He'll share time with Geovany Soto.

Thu Dec 5 201323:50Rangers, Arencibia 'progressing towards deal'
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rangers and J.P. Arencibia are "progressing towards a deal."
The particulars of the deal aren't yet known. The Rangers attempted to acquire Arencibia from the Blue Jays before the Jays non-tendered him earlier this week, so it's no surprise they didn't take much time to lock him up once he became a free agent. Arencibia is a one-trick pony who offers some power and little else, but he's not a bad guy to pair with Geovany Soto.

Wed Dec 4 201322:42Rangers, Jays discussed deal for Arencibia
The Rangers attempted to acquire J.P. Arencibia from the Blue Jays before the Jays non-tendered him, a source tells MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan.
It stands to reason, then, that the Rangers will make a play for the 27-year-old now that he's a free agent. The catcher doesn't bring much defensively and owns a career .212 batting average, but he hit 21 home runs this past season and would be a nice power option off the bench for the Rangers. The team is also considering Kurt Suzuki as a potential backup to starting catcher Geovany Soto.

Wed Dec 4 201308:48Heyman: Rangers could look at Arencibia
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman writes that the Rangers could consider signing J.P. Arencibia.
Arencibia was non-tendered on Monday after the Blue Jays were unable to find a taker via trade. While his projected salary in arbitration was too rich for his underwhelming production, someone will be willing to take a chance on his power bat. The Rangers are said to be considering signing Kurt Suzuki to use in a tandem with Geovany Soto.

Mon Dec 2 201323:32J.P. Arencibia non-tendered by Blue Jays
Blue Jays non-tendered C J.P. Arencibia.
The Jays tried to trade Arencibia after agreeing to terms with Dioner Navarro but were unable to find a partner. Arencibia put up a woeful .194/.227/.365 batting line in 2013 but has averaged over 20 homers the last three seasons. Someone will take a gamble on him due to his above-average pop for a catcher.

Mon Dec 2 201316:14Blue Jays still talking Arencibia trade
FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Blue Jays are still engaged in trade talks with at least one team regarding J.P. Arencibia.
The Blue Jays inked Dioner Navarro to a two-year, $8 million contract on Monday, which effectively ended Arencibia's tenure with Toronto. Teams face an 11:59 p.m. deadline on Monday to tender contracts to their arbitration-eligible players, so the only question is whether the Blue Jays will find a taker in time. If not, he'll become a free agent.

Mon Dec 2 201310:44Blue Jays working on J.P. Arencibia trades
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Blue Jays are working on possible J.P. Arencibia trades.
Toronto signed free agent catcher Dioner Navarro to a two-year, $8 million contract on Monday and will use him as the everyday catcher going forward. Arencibia is a poor defender and owns a horrendous .258 career on-base percentage, but he possesses a decent power bat and is only 27 years old. The Blue Jays should be able to find a taker eventually.

Wed Nov 13 201311:54Multiple teams interested in J.P. Arencibia
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that multiple teams have expressed interest in trading for Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia.
This news comes as a bit of a surprise, as Arencibia is coming off a terrible year in which he batted .194 with a .592 OPS. However, teams are apparently interested in his power. The 27-year-old is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. With a trade a legitimate possibility, the Blue Jays are currently monitoring the free agent market for a replacement at catcher.

Wed Sep 4 201318:33J.P. Arencibia goes hitless in loss
J.P. Arencibia went hitless in a fourth straight start Wednesday, dropping his average to .207.
Arencibia tore it up this spring and in the first half of April, but he's been one of baseball's very worst players since and the Blue Jays must have serious reservations about going forward with him as their catcher in 2014. He currently has a .243 OBP and 131 strikeouts in 421 at-bats.
