Mon Sep 19 202211:37Zack Britton Still Rehabbing In MinorsZack BrittonRPOriolesFree Agent
New York Yankees left-handed reliever Zack Britton (elbow) threw one-third of an inning on Sept. 16 for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, allowing a hit and a walk in a 16-pitch outing. He's recovering from Tommy John surgery and a procedure to have a bone chip removed from his elbow in September of last year. Manager Aaron Boone said on Sept. 13 that he's "still not sure" if Britton will return this year. It will depend on how Britton's next several outings go in the minor leagues. The 34-year-old veteran southpaw has allowed just one earned run on three hits while walking two and striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings over seven rehab outings for Single-A Tampa, Double-A Somerset and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre so far.

Mon Sep 19 202211:11Eric Hosmer Still Hopes To Return This YearEric Hosmer1BRoyalsFree Agent
Boston Red Sox first baseman Eric Hosmer (back) hasn't given up hope of playing again this season. Skipper Alex Cora said Hosmer might resume baseball activities on Tuesday. It will be a matter of how Hosmer responds to increased activities and if there is enough time for him to ramp back up by the end of the 2022 season. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter hasn't played since Aug. 20 due to lower back inflammation. In his 12 games with the Red Sox since being acquired from the San Diego Padres at the Aug. 2 trade deadline, Hosmer has hit just .225/.311/.300 with no home runs, four RBI and six runs scored in 45 plate appearances. The Red Sox have been using a platoon of Christian Arroyo and Triston Casas at first base recently.

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever David Price (wrist) is set to retire at the end of the season, according to Bob Nightengale. Price, who is currently on the injured list with left wrist inflammation, is planning to hang it up at season's end. The big left-hander has put together a stellar career, posting a 3.32 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across 13 MLB seasons. He made the All-Star team five times, won a Cy Young award, and earned a World Series title with the Red Sox back in 2018. For now, the 37-year-old is set to return to the Dodgers' bullpen later this week.

He sustained a minor fracture in the tip of his right index finger while trying to field a ground ball during Friday's game against the Angels. Sat Sep 17 202218:18Eugenio Suarez To Miss Saturday's GameEugenio SuárezSSTigersFree Agent
Seattle Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suarez (finger) was removed early during Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. The 31-year-old was hit in the finger while trying to field a grounder. He was removed from Friday's contest and won't play on Saturday. Manager Scott Servais mentioned that the injury is concerning, so it sounds like Suarez could miss time. Fantasy managers will have to wait for more information. Abraham Toto will bat ninth and play third base against right-hander Shohei Ohtani on Saturday.

Sat Sep 17 202213:55Nelson Cruz Sitting Out Once Again On SaturdayNelson CruzRFOriolesFree Agent
Washington Nationals designated hitter Nelson Cruz (eye) is not the lineup on Saturday vs. the Miami Marlins. The 42-year-old slugger has been having blurred vision in his left eye and will now miss his third straight game as a result. He has a chance to play in Sunday's series finale but fantasy managers should pay attention to his status leading up to that game. Cruz owns a .234/.313/.337 batting line to go along with 10 home runs, 64 RBI, and four stolen bases over 448 at-bats on the year. Luke Voit is taking his spot as DH on Saturday.

Sat Sep 17 202211:00Eugenio Suarez Injures Finger FridayEugenio SuárezSSTigersFree Agent
Seattle Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suarez (finger) injured his right index finger on a ground ball in the fourth inning on Friday night against the Los Angeles Angels and underwent X-rays that were "inconclusive," according to manager Scott Servais. Suarez should be considered day-to-day for now, but his fantasy managers should be expecting him to sit out of Saturday's lineup. The 31-year-old has been a big power threat, clubbing 31 home runs while slashing .235/.335/.470 with an .805 OPS, 84 RBI and 72 runs scored in 511 at-bats this year. Check back for additional details on Suarez's injury after he likely undergoes more testing this weekend.

Fri Sep 16 202221:48Miguel Cabrera Takes SwingsMiguel Cabrera1BTigersFree Agent
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (biceps) is slowly progressing toward returning to his team before the end of the season. Cabrera took between 40 and 50 swings a few days ago and participated in a full batting practice session on Friday. The future Hall of Famer could be nearing a return to the Detroit lineup as the regular season draws to an end. Cabrera is hitting .256 with four homers, 23 runs, 37 RBI and a steal in 2022.

Fri Sep 16 202218:54Nick Castellanos Suffers SetbackNick Castellanos3BTigersFree Agent
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos (oblique) is backing off swinging after feeling stiffness in his oblique. Castellanos strained his oblique on September 2, and his progression hasn't gone as planned. He still has no date set for a possible return, and at this point it is fair to question if he will make any impact for fantasy managers the rest of the way. It has been a disaster of a season for the 2021 breakout star, and as soon as he was starting to come around he got injured. His .300/.333/.500 August slash line gives some sense of optimism for 2023 at least.

Fri Sep 16 202218:37Jorge Polanco Set To Begin Rehab AssignmentJorge Polanco2BTwinsFree Agent
Minnesota Twins middle infielder Jorge Polanco (knee) is set to start a rehab assignment for Triple-A St. Paul on Friday. The switch-hitter will play second base tonight and possibly tomorrow, and could rejoin the Twins in Cleveland this weekend depending on how things go. Polanco is having a down year after his breakout 2021 and was slashing just .234/.341/.364 with two homers in August before his injury. Still, he should be activated and started in most leagues if he returns this weekend, as he has five-category potential.

Fri Sep 16 202218:25Kirby Yates Heads Back To Injured ListKirby YatesRPRaysFree Agent
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Kirby Yates (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL on Friday with right elbow inflammation. Tough news for the righty, who just came back from his second Tommy John surgery in August. In his nine appearances since his return, Yates has a 5.14 ERA and 1.57 WHIP with six strikeouts in seven innings. Yates has certainly gone through the ringer in regards to injuries, and it's hard to believe that he was a top end fantasy reliever just a few years ago.

Fri Sep 16 202216:11Justin Verlander Activated And Starting FridayJustin VerlanderSPTigersFree Agent
The Houston Astros activated starting pitcher Justin Verlander (calf) from the 15-day injured list on Friday and optioned Seth Martinez to the minors in a corresponding move. Verlander, who landed on the injured list on Aug. 30 with a calf injury, will make the start in a great matchup against the Oakland Athletics on Friday. There's a chance he could face a pitch count in his first start back, though, since he didn't go on a minor league rehab assignment while away from the team. Still, it's hard to leave the 39-year-old ace out of starting lineups, especially in the excellent matchup. The nine-time All-Star currently leads all of baseball in ERA (1.84), wins (16) and WHIP (0.85) while striking out 154 and walking just 26 in 152 innings over 24 starts.

New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco was superb on Thursday as he struck out 11 batters in his club's 7-1 win over the Pirates. The veteran allowed one run on four hits while walking a pair in the 104-pitch effort as he took his record to 15-6 on the season. Carrasco retired the last eight batters he faced with his only hiccup on the scoreboard coming off a Michael Chavis RBI double in the second inning. He now holds a serviceable 3.70 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 143 K through 141 IP in his bounce back season as he sets his sights on the Brewers in his next matchup.

Thu Sep 15 202219:21David Price Throws BullpenDavid PriceSPTigersFree Agent
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher David Price (wrist) threw a bullpen session on Wednesday. It was the first time Price has thrown off a mound since he landed on the injured list on Sept. 4 with left wrist inflammation. Despite dealing with wrist problems for a while before that, the 37-year-old southpaw has gone 2-0 with a solid 2.58 ERA (3.84 FIP), a 1.17 WHIP, one save and 37 strikeouts in 38 1/3 relief innings for the Blue this year. Barring a setback, Price expects to return from the injured list before the end of the regular season, so they should have him available as a lefty specialist out of the bullpen for the postseason.

Thu Sep 15 202216:13Jose Altuve Resting On ThursdayJose Altuve2BAstrosFree Agent
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics. It appears to just be a normal day of rest for the everyday second baseman, but fantasy managers must act accordingly. The 32-year-old veteran has been swinging a hot bat in the month of September, going 16-for-49 (.327) with two home runs, four RBI, 10 runs scored and five stolen bases in 12 games. Altuve remains a must-start whenever he's in the lineup. Veteran utility man Aledmys Diaz is starting at second base and is hitting second on Thursday against A's right-hander James Kaprielian. Diaz has some DFS sleeper potential in the two-hole, and he's hitting .283 (13-for-46) with a homer, seven RBI and four runs scored in his last 13 games, dating back to Aug. 1.

Chicago Cubs left-hander Drew Smyly picked up his seventh win of the season on Wednesday in a 6-3 victory over the New York Mets. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits while walking one and striking out five in his five innings pitched. The 33-year-old southpaw's one earned run came on a solo shot in the third inning. Smyly is 7-8 on the season with a 3.48 ERA (4.30 FIP), a 1.19 WHIP, 89 strikeouts and 26 walks in 103 1/3 innings over 21 starts in his first season in Chicago. He was roughed up to the tune of seven earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings on Sept. 3 against the Cardinals, but otherwise he hasn't given up more than two earned runs in a start since July 30 against San Francisco.

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Sonny Gray was on his game on Wednesday in the 7-0 shutout win over the Kansas City Royals. Gray threw seven shutout innings and allowed only three hits, walking one and striking out eight in the process. The 32-year-old veteran right-hander now sits with an 8-4 record, 2.91 ERA (3.29 FIP), 1.10 WHIP, 116 strikeouts and 35 walks in 117 2/3 innings over 23 starts in his first season in Minnesota. He's been especially good in his last 10 outings, going 4-1 with a 1.98 ERA (3.06 FIP), 59 strikeouts and 18 walks in 54 2/3 innings pitched. Fantasy managers should continue to roll him out there in their starting lineups when he takes the rubber next.

Cleveland Guardians left-hander Anthony Gose (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday in Texas. He's expected to need 12 to 18 months to recover from the elbow reconstruction, so he's highly unlikely to pitch at all for Cleveland next season. Gose hasn't pitched for the Guardians since early July, and he had a 4.71 ERA (5.07 FIP), a 1.38 WHIP, 28 strikeouts and 14 walks in 21 relief innings this year. The 32-year-old southpaw is well off the fantasy baseball radar.

Wed Sep 14 202218:27Nelson Cruz Out With Eye InflammationNelson CruzRFOriolesFree Agent
Washington Nationals designated hitter Nelson Cruz (eye) has inflammation in his left eye and is out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles. His doctor gave him eye drops for treatment, and skipper Dave Martinez said Cruz is day-to-day. Fantasy managers need to remove him from their daily lineups. The 42-year-old left the game early on Tuesday due to blurred vision, but hopefully he'll be able to return to the lineup in short order. Washington has a day off on Thursday before starting a series against the Miami Marlins on Friday. With Cruz out Wednesday, Luke Voit is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup against Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells.

Wed Sep 14 202214:28Yu Darvish Shuts Out Mariners For Eight InningsYu DarvishSPRangersFree Agent
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish threw eight shutout innings against the surging Seattle Mariners Tuesday night, earning his 14th win of the season. He allowed two hits and no walks and struck out seven batters. Darvish now has five consecutive quality starts and has reached that standard in 11 of his last 12 outings. With a 3.16 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP, and 175 strikeouts in 176 2/3 innings this season, he's been a very solid fantasy contributor, though without the higher ceiling more strikeouts would afford.
