The deal includes an invitation to spring training. The 29-year-old has struggled to produce at the major league level, last appearing with the Cubs in 2012. He owns a .232/.319/.417 career line and will look to catch on as bench depth with the Halos.

Fri Jul 5 201318:50Dodgers ink Ian Stewart to minor league deal
Dodgers signed 3B Ian Stewart to a minor league contract.
Despite hitting just .168/.286/.372 over 40 games with Triple-A Iowa before his release, Stewart still possesses prodigious power and several organizations showed interest in giving him a chance before the Dodgers scooped him up. He'll serve as organizational depth at Triple-A Albuquerque for the time being.

Thu Jun 27 201319:49Yankees considering signing Ian Stewart
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees are considering signing Ian Stewart to a minor league contract.
Stewart was batting just .168/.286/.372 in 40 games with Triple-A Iowa prior to his release by the Cubs, but he'll have no trouble getting someone to take a shot on him. Olney previously reported that the Marlins and Diamondbacks are two possible landing spots for the third baseman.

Wed Jun 26 201314:59Marlins or D-Backs could be fit for Stewart
ESPN's Buster Olney writes that the Marlins and Diamondbacks are top possible landing spots for free agent third baseman Ian Stewart.
It's not clear if he's speculating on landing spots or whether the clubs have legitimate interest. Stewart was given his release by the Cubs this week after he completed a suspension for making some controversial comments about the team on Twitter. The 28-year-old was batting just .168/.286/.372 in 40 games with Triple-A Iowa prior to his release, so he'll have to earn his way back to the majors.

Tue Jun 25 201312:37Cubs release third baseman Ian Stewart
Cubs released INF Ian Stewart.
The move comes two weeks after Stewart was suspended for expressing frustration about the Cubs on his personal Twitter account. It's not clear if he will give any of his salary back to the team for getting his release. As is, he's still owed about half of his $2 million salary for this season.

Sat Jun 22 201319:05Stewart reinstated by Cubs after suspension
The Cubs reinstated Ian Stewart from his 10-day suspension on Saturday.
Stewart had been suspended for violating the "loyalty clause" in his contract, speaking out in frustration about being in the minors on Twitter. He certainly didn't do himself any favors with the outburst, so it's safe to assume he won't be recalled by the club any time soon.

Fri Jun 14 201319:20Cubs suspended Stewart for 10 days
The Cubs have suspended Ian Stewart 10 days for violating the "loyalty clause" in his contract.
The punishment was handed out after Stewart spouted off on Twitter about how unlikely he is to ever be called up from Triple-A. He has appealed the suspension. The Cubs have no intention of releasing Stewart, where they'd be on the hook for his $2 million salary, and are instead trying to negotiate an out in which Stewart becomes a free agent but doesn't receive his salary. Stewart still owns tremendous power potential, but is highly unlikely to make an impact in fantasy leagues this season.

Tue Jun 11 201317:33Cubs suspend Ian Stewart indefinitely, no pay
Ian Stewart has been suspended indefinitely without pay.
Stewart went on a Twitter rant Monday night, questioning why the Cubs hadn't called him up yet from Triple-A Iowa (where he is currently batting just .164/.279/.345). Cubs president Theo Epstein cited the "loyalty clause" in Stewart's contract and said that the length of the third baseman's suspension has not yet been determined.

Tue Jun 11 201313:48Ian Stewart to face punishment from Cubs
Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said Tuesday that there will be "consequences" following Ian Stewart's Twitter rant on Monday night.
Stewart wrote on his Twitter account that he will "probably never" be called up from Triple-A Iowa and suggested that he was better off being released. The Cubs naturally weren't too happy about that. "We spent the entire morning dealing with an issue that doesn't help us get better as an organization," said Hoyer. "That's not how we want to spend our time. What he did was really unprofessional and there are going to be consequences. Beyond that, I'm not going to comment." While Stewart isn't expected to be released, he is liking looking at a fine or suspension.

Tue Jun 11 201310:40Stewart says he likely won't return to Cubs
Ian Stewart wrote on his Twitter account Monday that he will "probably never" be called up by the Cubs.
We probably didn't need Stewart's analysis to figure that out, as he's batting just .164/.279/.345 with four home runs and 43 strikeouts in 110 at-bats this season with Triple-A Iowa. Those numbers aren't exactly screaming promotion. The 28-year-old is making $2 million this season, but look for him to be non-tendered this winter.

Sat Jun 8 201320:50Ian Stewart has monster day at Triple-A
Ian Stewart had a monster day in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Triple-A Iowa, going 3-for-4 with three homers and eight RBI.
Stewart got the party started with a three-run blast to right-center in the second inning. He then launched a two-run homer to virtually the same spot in the fourth. After striking out in the sixth, he broke a 5-5 tie with a three-run bomb the opposite way in the eighth. While the huge day is a nice accomplishment, he was hitting just .146/.259/.250 with one homer and 10 RBI through 35 games heading into play on Saturday and isn't close to returning to the Cubs.

Stewart is now officially off the Cubs' 40-man roster. He is batting .091/.255/.114 in 55 plate appearances this year at the Triple-A level and seems doubtful to reach the major leagues at any point during the 2013 season.

Fri May 3 201315:04Ian Stewart activated, optioned
Cubs activated 3B Ian Stewart from the 15-day disabled list, optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.
Stewart has just four hits in 44 at-bats during his rehab assignment, so he'll continue to try to figure things out in the minors. Luis Valbuena and Cody Ransom will continue to share time at the hot corner for the Cubs.

Fri May 3 201308:47Ian Stewart will be optioned
The Cubs are expected to activate Ian Stewart (quad) from the disabled list and option him to Triple-A Iowa.
Stewart's rehab window has run out, and while his quad is no longer an issue, his bat is. The third baseman has just four hits in 44 at-bats during his rehab assignment, so he'll continue to try to figure things out against minor league pitching. Luis Valbuena and Cody Ransom will continue to share time at the hot corner for the Cubs.

Ian Stewart (quad) is batting just .100/.275/.125 on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa.
Stewart said following another hitless game Monday that he didn't think he was ready to be activated yet. He'll need to shape up in a hurry, as he only has a week of his rehab window remaining. Otherwise, he could be optioned. Even if he's activated soon, Stewart figures to be on the bench initially.

Stewart was hit by a pitch in Thursday's game and is considered day-to-day. The third baseman is batting just .111/.242/.148 with three RBI and 10 strikeouts in his first 27 at-bats at Iowa. It doesn't look like he's going to make his way back up to Chicago anytime soon.
