Jose Ramirez is expected to be in the Cleveland Indians' opening day lineup Thursday, four days after fouling a pitch off the area below his left knee.Manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that Ramirez should be ready to go for the opener at Minnesota. This time, the 35-year-old is part of a catching platoon in Oakland where he'll be splitting time with Josh Phegley.It's not unlike other situations Hundley has been through in his career. RHP Aaron Brooks was designated for assignment Tuesday. Brooks, 27, was claimed off waivers recently from the Cubs. He has not pitched in the majors since 2015. He is 3-5 with a 8.38 ERA in 15 big-league appearances including 10 starts. He posted a 6.12 ERA in Triple-A.

RHP Aaron Brooks was claimed off waivers from the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. He was sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs. The 27-year-old has had a successful minor league career, going 28-18 with a 4.72 ERA in four Triple-A seasons. But that success has not translated to the majors, where he's gone 3-5 with an 8.38 ERA in two seasons for the Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics.

RHP Aaron Brooks was acquired by the Cubs from the A's on Thursday in exchange for OF Chris Coghlan. Brooks, 25, split last season between Kansas City and Oakland, going a combined 3-4 with a 6.67 ERA in 13 games (nine starts).

Brooks (3-4) was great on Friday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks across seven innings in a win over the Mariners. He struck out just one.

The performance raised his average to 6.67, so it's been a rough season for Brooks to say the least. Peripherals would indicate that the righty has been severely unlucky, as his xFIP is at just 4.19 with a .366 BABIP. Luckily for him, GM Billy Beane looks at these stats more than the standard ERA and WHIP and that should prove to be beneficial for his roster spot next season.

Brooks pitched well on Sunday against the Astros, allowing three earned runs over seven innings while striking out five.

The start ended a three-run run for Brooks where he has allowed five or more runs in all three starts. Brooks has been in the rotation due to the myriad of injuries to the A's starters, but he has not performed well with an ERA over seven on the season. He will next take the mound either Friday or Saturday agaisnt the Giants.

Brooks improved to 2-3 despite allowing six runs on 10 hits and two walks over six innings Tuesday against the White Sox. He struck out six.

Luckily for Brooks, the Athletics put up 16 runs in the first four innings on Jeff Samardzija and the White Sox bullpen. Brooks gave up two home runs and has now served up six in just seven starts this year (1.4 HR/9). That's particularly bad news given Oakland's pitcher friendly effects, and Brooks will need to show he can keep the ball in the yard before he can lay claim to a long-term starting spot.

Brooks (1-3) was ineffective Wednesday, giving up five earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two over four innings in an 11-5 loss to the Astros.

Acquired from the Royals at the trade deadline, Brooks has had a difficult start to his Athletics career. Recalled from Triple-A Nashville in late August, Brooks has now allowed five earned runs or more in two consecutive starts. Having pitched to a 1.56 WHIP and 6.89 K/9 in 32 major league innings, Brooks is making it difficult for Oakland to justify keeping him in the rotation.

Brooks will be called up to start Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks, CSN California's Joe Stiglich reports.

Brooks, 25, has a 2.25 ERA in two starts with Oakland's Triple-A affiliate but he has a 6.19 ERA in 16 innings with the big league club this season. He was originally scheduled to come up Monday, but Felix Doubront (foot) was pushed back a couple days, meaning Brooks will join the rotation sooner than expected. Brooks is not assured of a spot the rest of the way, as Kendall Graveman (oblique) could return and the A's also have other options in the minor leagues.
