Putnam has been dealing with a sore leg and likely won't be available out of the bullpen for Monday's game against Boston, although manager Robin Ventura doesn't believe the injury to be serious, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun Times reports.
Putnam hasn't pitched since Aug. 19 and Ventura intimated that the reliever was held out this past weekend as a result of his soreness. Obviously time away from the mound should help remedy Putnam's minor issue, so his return could certainly occur during Chicago's current series with the Red Sox.

Putnam (finger) struck out the side in a scoreless eighth inning against the Tigers on Friday.
The right-hander was unavailable Thursday due to a finger issue, but he showed no ill effects Saturday in his first appearance since May 29. While Putnam has posted a 4.08 ERA in 19 appearances this season, more than double his 2014 mark, he's striking batters out at a strong 33.8 percent clip and holding opponents to a .224 average.

Putnam was unavailable during Thursday's 11-inning loss to the Rangers due to a finger issue, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Putnam has gone unused in the White Sox's last five games, but there doesn't seem to be much concern just yet that he'll be bound for the disabled list as a result of the injury. He could be cleared for a return to action at some point during the team's weekend series against the Tigers.

Putnam allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits an inning of work against the Twins on Friday.
This was the second clunker in as many appearances for Putnam, who had also allowed a pair of runs Wednesday against the Royals. Putnam was one of the White Sox's most reliable relievers in 2014, but he may find himself out of favor (or out of the majors) if this run continues.

Putnam allowed three runs on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning against the Cubs on Friday.
This was a high scoring affair (a total of 17 runs were scored), and Putnam was just one of four White Sox pitchers to allow multiple runs. Closer-to-be David Robertson has struggled this spring, and Putnam is likely on the list of replacements if Robertson's long leash gets tightened at any point.

Putnam pitched a perfect ninth against the Royals on Tuesday to earn his fifth save of the season.
Jake Petricka blew the save Monday, so manager Robin Ventura turned to Putnam, who only needed seven pitches to record three groundouts. Petricka remains the team's ninth inning man, but Putnam is the clear No. 2.

Putnam recorded the final out of Wednesday's win over the Indians to pick up his fourth save of the season.
The save was Putnam's first since July 19. Jacob Petricka appears to be ahead of him on the depth chart for the closer role at the present time, but Putnam may see the occasional situational opportunity when Petricka is unavailable.
Fri Aug 8 201414:06Putnam (shoulder) reinstated from 15-day DL Friday
Putnam (shoulder) was reinstated from the 15-day DL Friday.
In 33 appearances out of the bullpen this season, Putnam has a 2.35 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP, while notching three saves. Jacob Petricka appears to have the closer job right now, but if he stumbles down the stretch, Putnam could be an option for a couple save opportunities.

Putnam (shoulder) is expected to be activated by the White Sox on Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun Times reports.
Putnam is currently with the team in Seattle, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, he'll rejoin the bullpen Friday night. A corresponding roster move has yet to be announced.

Putnam (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
Putnam, who is dealing with inflammation in his throwing shoulder, will likely appear in a couple games for Charlotte before making his return to the White Sox. He's expected to re-join the club Friday, barring a setback.
Mon Aug 4 201416:01The White Sox expect Putnam (shoulder) to return by Friday
The White Sox expect Putnam (shoulder) to return by Friday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
In addition to getting Putnam back, Matt Lindstrom should be back in the fold for the White Sox soon after Putnam's return. There is no immediate word regarding a plan for Putnam to have a short rehab assignment before the White Sox bring him back.
Sat Jul 26 201419:56Zach Putnam (shoulder); return when eligible
Zach Putnam (shoulder) expects to return from the 15-day disabled list as soon as he is eligible.
Putnam has been out since July 24 with right shoulder inflammation. He plans to throw from the mound as soon as Friday. He has a 2.35 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP and 32 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings this year for the White Sox.

Thu Jul 24 201416:11Zach Putnam (shoulder) placed on 15-day DL
White Sox placed RHP Zach Putnam on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.
This comes on the heels of Putnam allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks over one inning of work Wednesday against the Royals. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined, but Jacob Petricka is now the clear favorite for save chances in Chicago.

Sun Jul 20 201412:58Putnam, Petricka the favorites for saves
White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Sunday that Zach Putnam and Jacob Petricka are the favorites to be used in the ninth inning when the team has a lead.
Putnam has earned saves in back-to-back games and Petricka notched his third save of the season earlier this month. The former is looking like the best bet of the two at the moment, but Ventura has been hesitant to this point to name one closer since Matt Lindstrom (ankle) went down. Lindstrom, by the way, is expected back in a couple weeks.

Sat Jul 19 201422:36Putnam earns another save, CHW beat HOU
Zach Putnam earned his third save of the 2014 as the White Sox beat the Astros 4-3 on Saturday.
Putnam was called upon to get the final out after Jake Petricka put two men on. The right-hander needed only five pitches to strike out Jason Castro and end the game. He also earned a save on Friday night and appears to be the front-runner for saves in Chicago going forward.

Sat Jul 19 201401:12Zach Putnam secures second save on Friday
Zach Putnam secured his second save of the season on Friday, working a perfect ninth inning to protect a one-run lead against the Astros.
Putnam looked especially impressive in doing so also, striking out two of the three hitters that he squared off against. He now owns a 2.43 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 31/13 K/BB ratio over his first 37 innings. He looks to be the best option that Robin Ventura currently has in the ninth inning, so those speculating on saves in deeper mixed leagues may want to take a chance on him.

Wed Jul 2 201423:31Zach Putnam earns victory in relief
Zach Putnam retired four of the five Angels he faced Wednesday to pick up the win in the White Sox's 3-2 victory.
Leury Garcia singled in Alejandro Da Aza in the bottom of the ninth to win it. Putnam, who rates as the head of the White Sox's closer-by-committee at the moment, came into a tie game in the eighth inning tonight. He's earned a win and a save in his last two appearances.

Sun Jun 29 201413:35White Sox don't have set closer
White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Sunday that he plans to handle the closer situation on a case-by-case basis.
Zach Putnam nailed down the save on Saturday and might be the favorite for saves going forward. However, Ventura didn't rule out using Javy Guerra, Jacob Petricka, Eric Surkamp or Daniel Webb. "He's going to pitch, I don't know if it's going to be in the ninth," Ventura said of Putnam. "But yeah I'm going to run him out. It's going to be depending on the matchup/usage, all that stuff. Just because he closed out yesterday doesn't mean he gets today."

Sat Jun 28 201416:44Zach Putnam secures first save on Saturday
Zach Putnam picked up his first save of the season on Saturday, allowing a run on three hits over 1 1/3 innings of work.
In the first game since Ronald Belisario was booted from the closer's role and White Sox manager Robin Ventura opted to use a closer-by-committee approach, he turned to Putnam to record the final four outs. While he allowed an RBI single in the ninth inning, he's probably the best option that the White Sox have at the moment and worth speculating on if desperate for saves.

Thu Apr 17 201415:09White Sox add righty Zach Putnam to 'pen
White Sox purchased the contract of RHP Zach Putnam from Triple-A Charlotte.
Putnam will take over the bullpen spot left vacant by left-hander Donnie Veal, who was designated for assignment on Thursday after a brutal start to the season. Putnam had fanned 11 batters in six innings at Triple-A.
