RHP Ricky Nolasco (2-4) will start for the Angels when they return home on Monday to face the Atlanta Braves. The Angels need to get Nolasco going because he has the fewest wins of the four healthy mainstays of their rotation. Nolasco has a 4.37 ERA in 10 starts, and his ERA is identical at home and on the road. Nolasco, 34, is on the last year of his contract and has not won more than eight games in a season since 2013, when he went 13-11 with a 3.70 ERA. Nolasco will have made $49 million at the end of this four-year contract, but he won't get anything close to that unless he makes a remarkable turnaround in the final four months.

He struggled most of the afternoon, needing 97 pitches to get through the five innings. However, he was able to strike out seven without walking a batter. "He just didn't have the same crisp command that we know he has when he's really on," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He gave a lot of counts away and had trouble getting the ball into the zones he wanted to, and some of the mistakes he made were hit pretty hard. He's got to get back to basics, and he will. "I just made a couple of mistakes there to Vogt and Davis, kind of cost us the game," Nolasco said. "But I felt good. RHP Ricky Nolasco threw a four-hit shutout in the Angels' 3-0 win over the Reds on Wednesday afternoon. It was the fifth shutout of his career and first since Sept. 9, 2012, when he threw one for Miami against Washington. It also was his first win since being traded from the Twins to the Angels on Aug. 1. "The slider was good today, I got a lot of swings and misses on that," Nolasco said. "Just kind of locating the sinker all day and getting ground balls. Mixed in some splitties and some curveballs there, but the main thing was the slider was there all day." Angels manager Mike Scioscia said it was by far Nolasco's best start since coming to the club. "Outside of that (third inning), he had a lot of soft contact, pitched to his spots and it was obviously a terrific ballgame," Scioscia said. "He made some adjustments as the game went on. Different shapes to his breaking ball, he had a tight slider and used his curveball, and also spotted his fastball."
