It also was his first win since being traded from the Twins to the Angels on Aug. 1. "The slider was good today, I got a lot of swings and misses on that," Nolasco said. "Just kind of locating the sinker all day and getting ground balls. Mixed in some splitties and some curveballs there, but the main thing was the slider was there all day." Angels manager Mike Scioscia said it was by far Nolasco's best start since coming to the club. "Outside of that (third inning), he had a lot of soft contact, pitched to his spots and it was obviously a terrific ballgame," Scioscia said. "He made some adjustments as the game went on. Different shapes to his breaking ball, he had a tight slider and used his curveball, and also spotted his fastball."

"Ricky got some big outs early and was actually doing a really nice job of locating his pitches," manager Mike Scioscia said. "That sixth inning happened to him in a heck of a hurry with the two doubles and the homer, and then he elevated a two-seamer to Maybin in the seventh."
