He exited the game after finishing the inning and underwent an MRI before Wednesday's game.Manager Joe Girardi did not have any official information when he met reporters roughly two hours before first pitch on Wednesday. The Yankees made the announcement about 20 minutes before the game began.The Yankees did not officially place Sabathia on the disabled list since his next scheduled start would not have been until Sunday in Oakland. There is not an official timetable for Sabathia's return but a Grade 2 strain might take four to eight weeks to recover from.It also is the same injury Sabathia suffered in the final week of the 2013 season.Sabathia is 7-2 with 3.42 ERA in 13 starts this season. In his last six starts, Sabathia posted a 0.99 ERA.Sabathia missed a few starts the previous two years with a strained left groin and right knee inflammation. In 2014, he missed the final four-plus months after undergoing right knee surgery.Since joining the Yankees as a free agent following the 2008 season, Sabathia is 113-70 with a 3.74 ERA in 241 starts. His 230 wins are second among active pitchers, only behind former Cleveland Indians teammate Bartolo Colon.
