Gutierrez went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Astros.
With his injury issues finally behind him, Gutierrez has taken well to a full-time role in left field, going 9-for-23 with three homers, five RBI, and seven runs scored over his last six games. Gutierrez should make for a great pickup while guaranteed playing time is headed his way, as his presence in the middle of a Seattle lineup that's been among the league's best in the second half should afford the outfielder plenty of run-scoring opportunities.
Sat Aug 29 201501:47Franklin Gutierrez:
Gutierrez went 3-for-3 with a solo homer in Friday's win over the White Sox.
Starting in place of Seth Smith against the lefty John Danks, Gutierrez continued his blistering month at the White Sox's expense. After dealing with back and groin injuries earlier this year, Gutierrez is batting .347 with eight homers and 22 RBI over the past month. The only downside regarding Gutierrez's recent streak is playing time. Though he's found the lineup more often than not this month, he cannot be counted on as a day-in-day-out contributor because he serves as the team's fourth outfielder.

Gutierrez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a 4-2 loss to the White Sox on Thursday.
Gutierrez has had a nice resurgence with the Mariners this season and he's been hot as of late. Over the last nine games, Gutierrez has four home runs, two doubles, and 13 RBI. Gutierrez continues to kill left-handed pitching this season, as he has posted a .333 average and .997 OPS is 72 at-bats this season.

Gutierrez hit his eighth home run in Monday's loss to the Athletics, a three-run shot, his only hit in four at-bats.
Gutierrez is now hitting a ridiculous .299/.339/.607 in 38 games this year. He has now hit 18 home runs in just 79 major league games in the past two years -- his career high in home runs is 18 in 153 games in 2009. Gutierrez's 27 percent strikeout rate is a career high, but if selling out for power comes with these results, it makes perfect sense.

Gutierrez (flu-like symptoms) homered as part of a 2-for-4 game with two runs scored in Monday's loss to Baltimore.
Gutierrez missed three games over the weekend battling a bug, but looked more than healthy in his return. Gutierrez's batting line is up to a robust .310/.342/.606 and the Mariners will have an enviable outfield defense with him and Austin Jackson roaming the grass the rest of the season.
Mon Aug 10 201518:58Gutierrez back in lineup Monday against Orioles
Gutierrez is back in the lineup Monday against the Orioles, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Gutierrez missed all three of the Mariners' weekend contests while battling flu-like symptoms. He's back in teh lineup Monday, batting fifth and playing left field.

Gutierrez is unlikely to be available during Sunday's game against the Rangers as he continues to recover from the flu, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
Gutierrez acquired the bug early Friday and will sit out a third consecutive game while he recovers. The Mariners will have Austin Jackson on hand as their backup outfielder in Sunday's game, so Gutierrez's absence should go largely unnoticed.

Gutierrez crushed a pinch-hit grand slam Tuesday with two outs in the eighth inning for the winning runs at Detroit.
It was Gutierrez's second home run since his callup June 24. In 34 at-bats, he's hitting .306. Gutierrez is essentially the fourth outfielder, as the Mariners limit his playing time to keep him rested and healthy. He'll see most of his starts against left-handers, though his homer Tuesday came off right-hander Neftali Feliz.
Sun Jul 19 201510:34Gutierrez (back) in lineup Sunday against Yankees
Gutierrez (back) is in the lineup Sunday against the Yankees, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
A sore back forced Gutierrez out of the lineup prior to the All-Star break, and though he remained on the bench for the first two games of the series, he was able to log a pinch-hitting appearance Friday night. Now sufficiently recovered from the ailment, Gutierrez appears slated to occupy a part-time role in the Mariners' outfield, with most of his at-bats likely coming when the platoon advantage favors him. That will be the case Sunday, as Gutierrez will match up against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia.
Fri Jul 17 201515:12Gutierrez (back) not in lineup Friday against Yankees
Gutierrez (back) is not in the lineup Friday against the Yankees, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Gutierrez was scratched from Sunday's lineup before the break due to a sore back. The team has not provided an update on his status, so at this point it's unclear whether he's out of the lineup due to the back ailment, or if he's simply being given the day off. Regardless, consider Gutierrez day-to-day until further notice.

Sun Jul 12 201514:27Franklin Gutierrez: (Back) Scratched From Lineup Sunday

Gutierrez went 2-for-6 with a solo homer in the Mariners' win over the Tigers on Tuesday night.
He's started five games for the Mariners since being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in late June, predominantly seeing time in the outfield when the opposition has a left-handed starter on the mound. Gutierrez hit second Tuesday night, and has been used in the second and fifth spots in the order over the course of his five starts. Given that he's on the small side of a platoon, his season-long appeal is limited mostly to AL-only formats, but it's likely that he will often carry a low price in daily settings.

Gutierrez had his contract selected Wednesday by the Mariners and will bat second in the order against the Royals.
Gutierrez had a .317/.402/.500 slash line at Triple-A Tacoma this season to go with seven home runs and 12 doubles. He'll be appearing in his first major league game since the 2013 season on Wednesday when he takes the field in left. The Mariners optioned James Jones to clear room for Gutierrez.

Gutierrez is batting .319/.451/.556 at Triple-A Tacoma with five doubles and four home runs.
Gutierrez is at Triple-A to prove he can stay healthy after missing all last season. The Mariners' struggles, though, could have them in the market for some help. Dustin Ackley is batting .182, and Gutierrez could at least share time with him. Jesus Montero could also get a look.

Gutierrez (groin) was released but re-signed with the Mariners on a new minor league deal Tuesday, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Under Rule XX (B), major league free agents under minor league contracts must be paid a $100,000 retention bonus or released if they do not make the major league roster out of camp. Rather than pony up the cash, the Mariners made the understandable business decision to release Gutierrez and re-sign him to another league deal, one that is not bound by Rule XX (B) provisions. Gutierrez missed time yet again due to injury in spring training and will likely serve as organizational depth for most of the year.
Sat Mar 21 201514:15Gutierrez reassigned to minor-league camp Friday
Gutierrez, who has not played since March 7 because of groin tightness, was reassigned to minor-league camp Friday, the Seattle Times reports.
Gutierrez was a non-roster invitee just hoping to prove he can stay healthy. No such luck on that, but he will go to Triple-A, as expected, and keep working to stay on the field. If he can stay healthy long enough to keep himself in the lineup, he'll need significant at-bats, as he hasn't played a full season since 2010, before a callup is even a question.
Sun Mar 8 201511:51Gutierrez will miss few days because of tightness in groin
Gutierrez will miss a few days because of tightness in his groin, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Between this and Gutierrez's ankylosing spondylitis, it's not looking good for the 32-year-old's roster chances or even his ability to stay on the field all season.

Gutierrez, who missed all last season, has an arthritic condition that affects his hips and lower body, the Seattle Times reports.
The condition, ankylosing spondylitis, is responsible for the numerous injuries and illnesses Gutierrez dealt with the last few years. Gutierrez has not played a full season since 2010. Neither the Mariners nor Gutierrez has any expectations for this season. Best-case scenario seems to be he goes to Triple-A, proves he can still play and hopes for a callup.
Mon Jan 26 201521:39Gutierrez signed minor league deal
Gutierrez signed a minor league deal, which includes a major league spring training invite, with the Mariners on Monday, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Gutierrez played five years in Seattle from 2009-13 but sat out all of last season due to a gastrointestinal illness that had plagued him in previous years. The 31-year-old will attempt to work his way back to the major leagues, but he'll likely begin the year at Triple-A if he's unable to crack to initial 40-man roster. In 2013, Gutierrez hit .248 with 24 RBI and 10 home runs in 145 MLB at-bats.
