RHP Scott Feldman (right knee) is making progress in his throwing program after going on the disabled list last Tuesday. Manager Bryan Price said Feldman has progressed from throwing with one knee on the ground and the other knee propped up to playing normal catch. Feldman is eligible to be activated Friday but likely won't return by then though Price said he be with the team in Miami.

RHP Scott Feldman got a second look at his right knee, which confirmed no structural damage, creating promise of a speedy recovery. Feldman went on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday with inflammation. "At this point, it sounds as if we can go with a treatment-only approach, strengthen his quad, which will support and take some pressure off of his knee, and getting the pain under control," Reds manager Bryan Price said.

"A lot of times it's not, so you don't bother. I got a little bit of a second wind in the eighth. He showed some confidence in me, which is nice." Feldman delivered with a 13-pitch, 1-2-3 inning to close out his third-career shutout in a 4-0 win over the Giants. "He had earned it," Price said. "I had him coming out after eight innings. He said he felt great. I talked about it with (pitching coach) Mack Jenkins. His pitch count was OK, we had (Raisel) Iglesias behind him." Feldman (2-3) walked one with five strikeouts for his fifth career complete game. His last shutout came on Aug. 30, 2014, vs. the Texas Rangers while he was a member of the Houston Astros. "I haven't had too many of them in my career," Feldman said. "It's a good feeling."

He walked two and struck out three. Josh Harrison's three-run home run was the big blow off Feldman in a six-run fourth. "Everything just really snowballed," Feldman said. "I've got to do a better job. The fourth inning got away from me. I had a chance to get out of it with one run, but the pitcher hits a bases-loaded grounder up the middle. I've got to do a better job, especially when the guys give me early runs."
