Wed Feb 15 202312:56Kyle Hendricks Expected To Miss Beginning Of Season
The Chicago Cubs aren't ready to put starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks (shoulder) on the injured list just yet, but president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said that Hendricks won't be ready for the start of the regular season. Hendricks is feeling great, though, and Hoyer expects him to throw off a mound soon. The 33-year-old right-hander had a capsular tear in his right shoulder in 2022, which kept him from pitching in the second half of the season. When he was healthy for the Cubs in the first half last year, he wasn't good, pitching to a 4.80 ERA (4.82 FIP), 1.29 WHIP and 18.5 percent strikeout rate in 16 starts covering 84 1/3 innings. Never a big strikeout guy, Hendricks has also had ERAs over 4.00 the last two years, and now he's entering the 2023 season behind due to injury.

Sat Jan 7 202313:50Kyle Hendricks Resumes Throwing Program
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks (shoulder), who missed the last three months of the 2022 season due to a capsular tear in his right shoulder, has resumed a throwing program this offseason. He's on a regimented throwing program and is playing catch on flat ground, and pitching coach Tommy Hottovy is encouraged by Hendricks' progress. In a best-case scenario, Hendricks will feel great in spring training and be ready by Opening Day. However, the Cubs won't speed up Hendricks' process just so he can be ready by Opening Day. Chicago has enough starting pitching depth to get by early in the year if Hendricks isn't ready, and it sounds as though there's a good chance he won't be.

Mon Aug 22 202211:00Kyle Hendricks Focused On 2023 Season
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks (shoulder) said that he'll head to Arizona after the team's current homestand with the goal of resuming a throwing program. However, the veteran hurler said his focus is on getting right for the 2023 season while having a full offseason. With the Cubs well out of contention, Hendricks' priority isn't to return to close out the 2022 campaign, so fantasy managers can likely let him go in single-year formats. The 32-year-old right-hander has had a tough year, too, going 4-6 with a 4.80 ERA (4.83 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP and a 66:24 K:BB in 84 1/3 innings over his 16 starts for Chicago.

Mon Aug 15 202221:19Kyle Hendricks Cleared To Begin Rehab Program
Chicago Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks (shoulder) has been cleared by the team to begin rehabbing in Arizona. Hendricks has been sidelined with a strained right shoulder since July 6. The team has yet to decide whether Hendricks will work toward pitching again in 2022 or if he will focus on returning to full strength for the beginning of the 2023 season. Hendricks has made 16 starts for the Cubs this season, posting a 4-6 record, 4.80 ERA, and 66 strikeouts over 84 1/3 innings of work.

Mon Aug 8 202219:02Kyle Hendricks Undergoes MRI On Monday
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks (shoulder) underwent an MRI on Monday. The right-hander is hopeful to get back on the mound before the end of the season. He has been sidelined since early June due to a lingering right shoulder issue. The MRI revealed that Hendricks hasn't been progressing well. It sounds like the two sides will determine the next step after the MRI. There's a good chance that the Cubs decide to shut down the veteran starter for the rest of the season. The team is rebuilding anyway and has no shot at the postseason. They might as well rest Hendricks and let someone younger have a chance in the rotation. Fantasy managers should have a better answer within the next few days.

Wed Jul 13 202218:58Kyle Hendricks Not Close To A Return
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks (shoulder) is still two or three weeks away from being able to play catch, according to manager David Ross. The 32-year-old has been sidelined since July 6th due to a right shoulder strain. It sounds like it could be quite some time before we see Hendricks back on a big league mound. Luckily, an MRI revealed no structural damage, but regardless the Cubs are going to take the cautious approach. At this point, most fantasy managers should be able to find a better option than Hendricks.

Thu Jul 7 202221:47Kyle Hendricks' MRI Shows No Structural Damage
Chicago Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks (shoulder) underwent an MRI on Thursday, which revealed no structural damage. According to Cubs manager David Ross, he won't need shoulder surgery, but there is no timetable for a return from a right shoulder strain. The Cubs will have an update on Hendricks after their weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Drew Smyly (oblique) and Marcus Stroman (shoulder) are expected to be activated this weekend to replace Hendricks in the rotation. Hendricks has struggled this season, posting a 4.80 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 66:24 K: BB across 84 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers can move on from Hendricks in most league formats.

Tue Jul 5 202222:49Kyle Hendricks Leaves Early With Shoulder Soreness
Chicago Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks (shoulder) left his start early on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers due to right shoulder soreness. Hendricks made it through only three frames, allowing two earned runs on two hits (one home run) while walking two and striking out four. It remains to be seen if the 32-year-old veteran will have to miss a turn in the rotation or go on the injured list, but it's worth noting that he dealt with some minor shoulder fatigue in early June. Entering the day on Tuesday, Hendricks had been disappointing for fantasy managers, posting a 4.76 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with a weak 18.1% strikeout rate and 22 walks in 81 1/3 innings over 15 starts. The Cubs are likely to send him for tests on Wednesday, so check back on more information on the severity of his shoulder ailment.

Fri May 20 202222:00Kyle Hendricks Struggles In Friday Loss
Chicago Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks struggled in a 10-6 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Hendricks allowed seven runs over five innings while striking out three and walking two. He struggled to keep the ball in the yard, serving up four homers before departing after 93 pitches following the fifth inning. Hendricks has been very inconsistent this year, having allowed six or more runs in three starts and two runs or fewer in five outings. Overall, he has a 2-4 record, 4.89 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 35 strikeouts over 49 2/3 innings of work.

Thu Apr 7 202218:37Kyle Hendricks Fans Seven On Opening Day
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks allowed one run across 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts in a no-decision on Opening Day. In a matchup versus reigning Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes, it was the soft-tossing Hendricks piling up K's as the Milwaukee bats came out cold on a chilly afternoon in Chicago. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect this kind of strikeout production moving forward as Hendricks has a minuscule 16.7% K-rate for his career. Still, it was nice to see the right-hander get off to a good start to the season after pitching to a 4.77 ERA in 2021. He's a start-worthy fantasy option next time out versus a weak Pirates lineup.

Sat Apr 2 202214:36Kyle Hendricks Named Opening Day Starter
Chicago Cubs manager David Ross announced on Saturday that starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks will start Opening Day, according to Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic. This will mark his third straight Opening Day start. Hendricks has been known for his consistency without overpowering stuff but struggled last season. Across 181 innings, the right-hander had a 4.77 ERA with a 16.7 K%, 5.6 BB%, and career highs in HR/9 (1.54) and WHIP (1.35). Hendricks doesn't offer much fantasy value, especially if his ERA is that high, so it may be a good idea for fantasy managers to stay away from the 32-year-old, even with an ADP of 280. ATC doesn't sense a big bounce back, projecting him for a 4.57 ERA, with just 130 strikeouts and a 1.28 WHIP over 181 innings.

Sat Sep 4 202120:02Kyle Hendricks Continues To Struggle
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks had another rough outing on Saturday versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. The veteran only lasted 4 1/3 innings and allowed five hits, six runs, three walks and recorded just one strikeout. Hendricks was putting together another solid campaign, but had an awful month of August with a 7.81 ERA and the change of month didn't do much to turn things around. Hendricks relies on his control and it just hasn't been there over the past month. Next up for Hendricks will be a date versus the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. Hendricks has become hard to trust and managers should proceed with caution moving forward.

Sun Aug 29 202120:17Kyle Hendricks Gets Embarrassed In Ugly Outing
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks got annihilated in Sunday's loss versus the Chicago White Sox. Hendricks looked like a shell of himself this afternoon and allowed seven hits, eight runs, two walks and struck out four on the afternoon. Hendricks was having a great season, but has been getting crushed in the month of August with a 1-2 record and an ugly 7.81 ERA. With the playoffs creeping up in some leagues, it may be best to proceed with caution in the case of Hendricks. He is now 14-6 with a 4.43 ERA. Even in a very favorable matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, Hendricks will be hard to trust moving forward with his recent struggles and limited run support.

Thu Aug 12 202118:44Kyle Hendricks Gets Lit Up In Loss
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks got lit up in Thursday's loss versus the Milwaukee Brewers. Hendricks went four innings and allowed 11 hits, nine runs, one walk and struck out three on the afternoon. Despite his rough outing on Thursday, Hendricks is still having a good season and managers should chalk this up as just a bad outing. Hendricks falls to 13-5 and saw his ERA rise to 4.15 during the process. Next up for Hendricks will be a matchup versus the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.

Fri Aug 6 202119:04Kyle Hendricks Earns Another Quality Start
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks earned his 17th quality start of the season on Friday versus the Chicago White Sox. Hendricks went six innings and allowed seven hits, two runs, three walks (two intentional) and struck out seven on the afternoon. Hendricks has quietly been having a very productive season and is 13-4 with a 3.68 ERA. Hendricks should continue to be a valuable option for managers moving forward, but could have trouble picking up wins with the Cubs offense taking a drastic hit with the subtractions of Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Kris Bryant and Joc Pederson. Next up for Hendricks will be a battle versus the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

Sat Jul 31 202122:26Kyle Hendricks Picks Up 13th Win
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks went seven innings in Saturday's victory versus the Washington Nationals. Hendricks allowed four hits, one run, one walk and struck out three. Hendricks was coming off of a brutal outing earlier in the week, but returned to form this evening. With the Cubs selling almost their entire offense, Hendricks will have less run support, but he should still provide managers with good numbers the rest of the season. He is now 13-4 with a 3.71 ERA. Next up for Hendricks will be a matchup versus the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
