Thu Mar 9 202314:32Carlos Correa Leaves Camp For Birth Of Child
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa has left the team's spring training camp for the birth of his second son, Kenzo. Correa shouldn't be away from the team for more than a few days. The 28-year-old had a very eventful offseason, almost landing two giant free-agent deals with the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets before returning to the Twins. Long-term medical issues aside, he remains a solid four-category contributor for fantasy managers. You can basically rule out steals with Correa at this point in his career. It would have been nice to see what he could have done in a stacked Mets lineup in 2023, but fantasy managers will have to settle for his production in Minnesota. RotoBaller has Correa ranked as the No. 15 fantasy shortstop.

Tue Feb 28 202321:03Carlos Correa To Make Spring Debut On Wednesday
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa is set to make his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. The 28-year-old hasn't been dealing with any injuries, but the team has been cautious with him after his offseason saga. Correa agreed to long term deals with both the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets before the deals ultimately fell apart due to concerns about his ankle during physicals. The Twins don't appear to be concerned after offering Correa a huge deal this offseason. The expectation is that Correa is going to be fully healthy heading into the regular season.

Mon Feb 6 202319:34Carlos Correa Withdraws From World Baseball Classic
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa has withdrawn from the 2023 World Baseball Classic after making a joint decision with the Twins. Correa's wife is due with the couple's second child the same week that Puerto Rico opens play in the WBC, and the Twins don't want Correa juggling family and the WBC. The 28-year-old agreed to long-term deals with both the Giants and Mets this offseason before those deals ultimately fell apart due to concerns about his ankle during the physical. Outside of stolen bases, Correa should remain a strong contributor at the shortstop position for fantasy managers in 2023. He doesn't have the kind of upside he had in Houston, though, and his long-term prognosis could be shaky if his health deteriorates quickly.

Wed Jan 11 202318:07Carlos Correa Passes Physical With Twins
Shortstop Carlos Correa has passed his physical with the Minnesota Twins, and the team is expected to officially announce their six-year, $200 million deal with the 28-year-old on Wednesday. Correa's physical was a big deal after both the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets backed out of big deals with him due to concerns over a surgery that he had on a fractured right fibula back in 2014 when he was in the minors. The Twins signed Correa to a one-year, $35.1 million deal in 2022, so they were likely more comfortable with his medical records. If Correa remains healthy well into his new deal, he could stick with the Twins for up to 10 seasons due to vesting options that could net him an additional $70 million.

Tue Jan 10 202313:09Twins, Carlos Correa Finalizing A Six-Year Deal
The Minnesota Twins and free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa are finalizing a six-year, $200 million deal on Tuesday, according to sources. The deal has a vesting option that can max out at $270 million and is pending a physical. This will be the third deal that Correa has agreed to this offseason, previously coming to terms with the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets before both teams backed out due to concerns about an ankle injury that Correa sustained in the minor leagues. However, the Twins are more familiar with the 28-year-old after he played for them in 2022. In the end, the Twins may have a bargain on their hands if Correa's body holds up beyond the next six seasons. Correa hit a strong .291/.366/.467 with 22 home runs last season in Minnesota. His likely return will afford Royce Lewis (knee) more time to heal from a torn ACL, and he'll eventually return to the outfield when he's healthy.

Tue Jan 10 202300:21Carlos Correa, Twins Talks Accelerate
The Athletic's Dan Hayes and Ken Rosenthal reported Monday that contract talks between the Minnesota Twins and free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa have begun to accelerate. 19 days have passed since the New York Mets reached an agreement with Correa for 12 years, $315 million. This deal was never officially agreed to after concerns arose from Correa's physical exam. The Mets became involved in talks with Correa after a similar agreement between him and the San Francisco Giants fell through due to injury concerns. The 28-year-old opted out of his three-year, $105.3 million contract with the Twins at the end of the 2022 season and declined the 10-year, $285 million offer they made this offseason. Correa will be a fantasy asset regardless of where he signs, but his landing spot is still very much up in the air.

Sun Jan 8 202320:54Steve Cohen Confident To Make Carlos Correa Decision Soon
The negotiations between the New York Mets and shortstop Carlos Correa are spiraling as the concerns regarding Correa's physical remain a roadblock. The two parties have been in extensive discussions for over two weeks since the 12-year $315 million signing. Earlier on Sunday, Steve Cohen told Mets YouTuber Tyler Ward that the team would have a resolution for Correa soon. Most of the negotiation involves the $315 million contract, which the Mets believe should be re-evaluated. However, it appears that Correa is unwilling to lower the value of his contract, which only inclined his agent Scott Boras to reach out to another team. If the two parties depart, this would be the second time Correa's deal fell through this offseason due to his physical.

Fri Jan 6 202313:00Mets Could Walk Away From Carlos Correa
The New York Mets have grown "very frustrated" in their negotiations with free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa over the past few days and are now considering walking away altogether, according to a source with direct knowledge of the team's thinking. In the end, the Mets and Correa believed they had a strong chance of reaching an agreement, but the deal is at an inflection point. On Dec. 21, the Mets and Correa agreed to a 12-year, $315 million deal, but his physical later revealed long-term concerns about a previous ankle injury. The two sides have been in constant communication since then, but they haven't been able to agree on new contract language that would protect the Mets from risks associated with the injury. Correa's camp has also reached out to other teams, so there's no telling where he may end up now. Stay tuned.

Thu Jan 5 202320:49Carlos Correa Talking To Other Teams
Free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa's representatives have renewed contact with at least another interested team or two beyond the New York Mets on Thursday as negotiations with the Mets over proposed contract language changes in the agreed-upon 12-year, $315 million deal ran into at least a couple hiccups. Two weeks into discussions with the Mets have led agent Scott Boras to check in with other teams. The Minnesota Twins, who know Correa best and offered close to $285 million over 10 years, were one of the teams in contact with Boras. The San Francisco Giants, the team that originally agreed to a huge deal with Correa this offseason, could be the other team in contact with Boras. "Ultimately, I don't think Mr. Cohen is going to let him go," one Mets official said.

Thu Jan 5 202318:12Mets Gaining Momentum Toward Deal With Carlos Correa
The New York Mets and the representatives for free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa continue to negotiate contract details after the team cited an issue with his physical following the 12-year, $315 million agreement in hopes of finally getting something done. It's been more than two weeks since Correa and the Mets initially agreed on a deal. There are no assurances at this point, but Correa's agent Scott Boras appears to only be talking with the Mets now, fueling the belief that a new deal is likely to get done with the Mets. The terms (12 years, $315 million) may be unlikely to change much, if at all, but the Mets have made it clear they are intent on diminishing their risk via important language additions and/or alterations. A surgery that Correa had on his ankle in 2014 while in the minors is what has come into question, although he hasn't had issues with the specific injury in his time in the majors.

Wed Jan 4 202300:08Carlos Correa Deal Expected To Look "Dramatically Different"
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday that while he assumes a deal between the New York Mets and free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa will get resolved this week, the terms of the initial 12-year, $315 million contract are expected to look "dramatically different." The Mets announced the deal in December after Correa and the Giants' 13-year, $350 million deal was called off due to medical concerns related to Correa having arthroscopic surgery in 2014 to fix a fractured fibula and minor ligament damage. These same concerns have since arisen for the Mets, preventing the announced deal from becoming official. "It's not going to be 12 years, $315 [million] guaranteed," Rosenthal said. The 28-year-old has not missed any time related to the concerning injury recently in his career.

Tue Jan 3 202315:25Talks Expected To Pick Up Between Mets, Carlos Correa
Contract talks are expected to pick up again between the New York Mets and free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa, and there is still a belief that there's a good chance he ends up with the Mets despite the team's concerns over his surgically repaired ankle. San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi told reporters last Friday that the Giants were among teams to follow up with Correa's camp. Correa and the Giants agreed to a 13-year, $350 million deal before the Giants called it off due to medical concerns. Then the Mets agreed to a 12-year, $315 million deal with Correa before having their own concerns over an injury that stemmed from Correa having arthroscopic surgery in 2014 to fix a fractured fibula and minor ligament damage. The 28-year-old has missed 42 games in the last three years, but for nothing related to his ankle injury.

Mon Dec 26 202213:36Mets and Carlos Correa Working Things Out
When the San Francisco Giants flagged shortstopCarlos Correa's physical, New York Mets owner Steve Cohen immediately put out an offer. Correa and the Mets agreed to a 12-year, $315 million contract last week. Although it appears that the Mets are also concerned about Correa's 2014 apparent ankle injury, which occurred in his minor-league days. A few days ago, the Mets flew Correa to New York to conduct a physical examination. The two parties agreed to separate for the holidays, but both sides are eager to work things out. The 28-year-old has been relatively healthy over the past two seasons and has only missed 30 games. The Mets clearly believe that his value on the field is worth all of the commotion. Correa is projected to be the Mets every day third baseman once the contract is finalized.

Wed Dec 21 202206:29Carlos Correa Signs With Mets, Deal With Giants Falls Through
Shortstop Carlos Correa signed a 12-year, $315 million contract with the New York Mets after his previous deal with the Giants fell through. According to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network, the deal with the Giants hit a snag due to an unspecified issue that arose during his physical. He initially agreed to a 13-year, $350 million contract with the Giants on December 13th. San Francisco postponed Correa's press conference, and the Mets swooped in and signed the All-Star shortstop to a deal. The 28-year-old slashed .291/.366/.467 with 22 home runs, 47 extra-base hits, 64 RBI, and 70 runs across 136 games for the Twins in 2022. He will be the Mets' everyday third baseman in a loaded lineup that includes Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor. Correa's move to New York shouldn't limit his fantasy value, and he will be a top-10 shortstop with third-base eligibility heading into drafts in 2023.

Tue Dec 20 202216:45Carlos Correa's Physical Shows Some Concern
The San Francisco Giants postponed a Tuesday press conference to introduce shortstop Carlos Correa after a medical concern arose during the All-Star's physical, according to two people with direct knowledge of the situation. The Giants haven't publicly announced any details regarding Correa's 13-year, $350 million deal. The two sides agreed on Dec. 13, subject to a successful physical. It's possible that this turns into a non-story quickly, as one person confirmed Tuesday's press conference was put on hold because the sides were awaiting the results of Correa's physical. The 28-year-old has been on the injured list seven times in his eight-year career, so there's also the possibility the Giants have found something that concerns them. If the deal goes through, Correa will push long-time shortstop Brandon Crawford to either second or third base.

Wed Dec 14 202200:08Giants Reportedly Agree On 13-Year Deal With Carlos Correa
The San Francisco Giants reportedly agreed to a 13-year, $350 million deal with free agent shortstop Carlos Correa Tuesday, per Jeff Passan. The deal would be the biggest deal ever for a shortstop and would give the 28-year-old the most lucrative deal out of the other two big free-agent shortstop signings this offseason. Correa had a solid 2022 season with the Minnesota Twins, slashing .291/.366/.467 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI. While he will be moving to one of baseball's most pitcher-friendly parks, he will also be joining a lineup that will have some additions from last season while still maintaining some core pieces. The Giants have made a number of moves this offseason, so it is possible that there could be even more support joining Correa in the lineup, which would further bolster his fantasy value.

Sat Dec 10 202213:07Giants, Twins, Cubs In On Carlos Correa
The San Francisco Giants, Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs are among the teams in on free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa, who has the advantages of being a little younger than Xander Bogaerts and Trea Turner while also having no qualifying offer attached to him. Turner received an 11-year, $300 million deal from the Philadelphia Phillies and Bogaerts got an 11-year, $280 million deal from the San Diego Padres this week, so Correa is going to cash in. The 28-year-old Correa is one of the best defensive shortstops in the game but can also swing it, slashing .279/.357/.479 with an .836 OPS in eight big-league seasons. Last year in Minnesota, he hit .291/.366/.467 with an .834 OPS, 22 home runs, 64 RBI and 70 runs scored in 136 at-bats.

Wed Dec 7 202218:07Giants Have Talked With Carlos Correa
The San Francisco Giants have spoken with free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa's representatives at the Winter Meetings in San Diego this week, according to a source. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Twins have also been linked to Correa this offseason. The 28-year-old declined his $35.1 million option for the 2023 season, but the Twins are all in on trying to bring him back on a multi-year deal. The shortstop market has skyrocketed after Trea Turner landed an 11-year, $300 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Correa, along with Xander Bogaerts and Dansby Swanson, is one of the top shortstops available after hitting .291/.366/.467 with an .834 OPS, 22 home runs, 64 RBI and 70 runs scored in 522 at-bats for the Twins last year.

Tue Dec 6 202201:38Twins Are All In On Re-Signing Carlos Correa
The Minnesota Twins are all in on trying to re-sign shortstop Carlos Correa and have already made multiple contract offers to him. Correa opted out of his $35.1 million option for the 2023 season, but they're trying to bring him back on varying contract offers that have ranged from six to 10 years in length. It would probably be a surprise if he returned, with the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and others interested in his services. The New York Post's Jon Heyman also notes that the Twins' involvement with free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon likely will only become a reality if Correa doesn't re-sign in Minnesota. The 28-year-old slashed a strong .291/.366/.467 with an .834 OPS, 22 home runs, 64 RBI and 70 runs scored in 522 at-bats in what could be his only season with the Twins.

Mon Dec 5 202223:09Cubs Meet With Carlos Correa
The Chicago Cubs met with free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa on Monday, according to a source. The shortstop market got a big boost when the Philadelphia Phillies signed Trea Turner to an 11-year, $300 million deal on Monday. The Cubs seem unlikely to spend big bucks on the free-agent market as they rebuild, so it remains to be seen if a player like Correa will be in their wheelhouse. The 28-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Twins for the 2022 season and slashed .291/.366/.467 with an .834 OPS, 22 home runs, 64 RBI and 70 runs scored in 522 at-bats over 136 games played. He declined his $35.1 million option for the 2023 season to re-enter the free-agent market for the second straight offseason.
