DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have put right-hander Michael Fulmer on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.The Tigers announced the move Friday. Detroit also activated outfielder Leonys Martin from the DL, optioned outfielder Mikie Mahtook to Triple-A Toledo and recalled right-hander Victor Alcantara from Toledo.Fulmer was initially set to start Sunday against Boston. The 2016 American League Rookie of the Year, Fulmer appeared to be Detroit's ace entering this season, but he's gone just 3-9 with a 4.50 ERA for the rebuilding Tigers.Martin is hitting .257 with nine home runs and 29 RBIs. OF Mikie Mahtook may be finished for the season after receiving a diagnosis of a Grade 2 left groin strain suffered Friday night. Manager Brad Ausmus said Saturday it's likely Mahtook will not play again. "I'm not frustrated," Mahtook said. "I think I had a great year." He came to Detroit in a winter deal with Tampa Bay, rejiggered his swing in the spring became a regular early in the season. Mahtook hit .276 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs in 109 games.

LF Mikie Mahtook reinjured his left groin on Friday night trying to make a play on Minnesota CF Byron Buxton's two-run double down the line in the fourth inning. Mahtook made a weak sidearm throw to the cutoff man when he picked up the ball and sagged to the turf. He was removed in favor of LF Tyler Collins after the play. He missed a few days the first time he hurt the groin and is likely to miss at least a couple of games this time.

DH Mikie Mahtook had been out of the lineup since Sept. 8 with a groin strain but returned Friday night as manager Brad Ausmus' designated hitter. He grounded a two-out RBI single up the middle to walk off the Chicago White Sox and give Detroit a 3-2 win. "I went up the last at-bat just trying to put a good swing on it," Mahtook said. "I didn't have to hit a home run or hit the ball really hard. I just had to find a hole and I was able to do that." His first career walk-off was his only hit of the night. "He grinded it out, he definitely did," Ausmus said. "There was a couple of balls in the dirt. He laid off a tough breaking ball, just missed a ball in the middle of the plate. But got the last one up the middle, a shot up the middle, and the game was over. It was a good at-bat."

OF Mikie Mahtook has missed the last three games. He has been bothered by a sore groin.
