Vargas will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester before Tuesday's game, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
After struggling in the majors, Vargas found his power stroke again the minors to improve his minor league totals to 13 home runs and a .910 OPS between Double-A and Triple-A. With Miguel Sano entrenched as Minnesota's DH, Vargas will likely have a limited role off the bench.
Wed Jul 1 201515:38Kennys Vargas: Optioned To Double-A
Vargas was optioned to Double-A Chattanooga after Wednesday's game, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
The 24-year-old singled in three trips Wednesday, but he also struck out, bringing his total this season to 48 in 159 at-bats. A corresponding move was not immediately announced, but Vargas' assignment to Chattanooga rather than Triple-A Rochester has fueled speculation that the team may be thinking about promoting prospect Miguel Sano.
Wed Jul 1 201513:38Kennys Vargas: Optioned To Double-A
Minnesota Twins first baseman Kennys Vargas was optioned to Double-A Chattanooga following Wednesday's game, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Minnesota Twins first baseman Kennys Vargas was optioned to Double-A Chattanooga following Wednesday's game, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Vargas is batting just .245 on the season and has struck out 48 times in 159 at-bats. "I'm sure he's not a happy gentleman right now but it's probably the right thing for him to do," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "He had a couple moments since he's been back. It just hasn't been to where we feel he's a guy you (can expect) run production from. He needs to go down there and get back to hitting. I think in his situation the at-bats haven't been consistent enough to where I feel we can get them very consistently for him up here. It's a good fit for him to go there. They've been hurting for a first baseman. (This will) give him a chance to go play a lot defensively and get consistent at-bats." Top prospect Miguel Sano will reportedly be called up in a corresponding move.

Vargas is out of the lineup Sunday against the Brewers, LaVelle E. Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Unsurprisingly, Vargas will sit out for the third straight game with no DH spot available in Milwaukee and Joe Mauer occupying first base. Expect Vargas' usage to remain sparse for the next three games as well with the Twins heading to Cincinnati for a series.

Vargas hit his fifth homer as part of a 4-for-4 game with two runs scored and four RBI in Monday's win over the White Sox.
Vargas doubled his season high in hits and set a new season high in RBI. He's been struggling all year, and had been a brutal .167/.167/.278 in 11 games since returning from the minors June 8. He needed a game like Monday's to keep his roster spot, much less any sort of regular spot in the lineup. His batting line is still ugly at .248/.283/.379.

Vargas went 2-for-4 with a walk-off home run in a 2-1 win over the Cardinals on Thursday.
While Vargas carried a 3-for-23, 10-strikeout slump into the game, he was swinging early and often here, seeing just nine pitches in his four at-bats. Vargas has shown some promising power, but has been lacking consistency at the bottom of the Twins' lineup. At this point, the only formats he should be owned in are AL-only and deep mixed leagues.
Sun Jun 14 201513:44Vargas out of lineup Sunday against Rangers
Vargas is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rangers.
The Twins recalled Vargas a week ago following a successful stint at Triple-A Rochester, but he's yet to carry over those successes since rejoining the big club. In his last five starts, he's gone 3-for-19 with nine strikeouts, suggesting that making contact will remain an ongoing issue for the slugging DH. Vargas will be replaced in Sunday's lineup by Eduardo Nunez, and could lose out on further at-bats if he fails to get going soon.

Sun Jun 7 201518:38Vargas recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday
Vargas was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Vargas was optioned to Triple-A in mid-May, and has been scorching at the plate since then. Over 16 games with Rochester, the 24-year-old hit .320/.407/.540 with three home runs and eight RBI. Upon his return, the youngster will likely see some starts as the Twins' designated hitter, though it's unclear whether or not he'll slot as in that role immediately. However, he should provide an offensive boost to the club's lineup if he can continue to hit at the major league level.

Meanwhile, Minnesota has struggled to find consistent production at DH since Vargas went to the minors. However, it doesn't sound like the Twins are considering calling him up in the next week.

Vargas was optioned to Triple-A Rochester after Sunday's game against the Rays, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
The decision to send down Vargas was partially motivated by the Twins playing their next series in Pittsburgh, where no DH is available, but the 24-year-old's struggles probably bear the brunt of the blame for the demotion. Though his production has rebounded a bit in May, Vargas still owns a sub-.300 on-base percentage and has struck out in 26.8 percent of his plate appearances. The Twins will have him work on improving his pitch recognition in the minors before considering bringing him back with the big club.

Sun May 10 201511:34Vargas out of lineup Sunday against Indians
Vargas is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians.
Vargas has begun to come around of late with two hits in five of his last seven starts, but he'll be held out Sunday as manager Paul Molitor looks to employ a more contact-oriented lineup against strikeout artist Danny Salazar. Eduardo Escobar will draw a start in the outfield while Torii Hunter moves from right field to Vargas' usual post at DH.
Wed May 6 201516:24Vargas not in lineup Wednesday against Athletics
Vargas is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Athletics, Brandon Warne of 105 The Ticket reports.
Vargas has seemingly been turning it around a bit after a slow start, turning in back-to-back multi-hit days Sunday and Monday, but he'll get the day off Wednesday. Torii Hunter will serve as the designated hitter while Eddie Rosario will make his major league debut in right field.
