RHP Eddie Butler (1-0) made his second Cubs start on Friday against the Brewers and has allowed just five hits and two runs in his first two appearances. But his five walks were the second most of his career, topped by six on April 13, 2016, at San Francisco.

Butler, was acquired by the Cubs in a February trade with Colorado, has no record against the Brewers in two career starts, including an Oct. 1, 2016 appearance for the Rockies as he worked 2 1/3 innings of relief. It will be his second career start at Wrigley Field -- and first as a Cub. Butler picked up the win on July 29, 2015 after throwing five innings while allowing three earned runs on five hits.

RHP Eddie Butler looked nothing like the guy who went 6-16 with a 6.50 ERA the last three years in Colorado, checking St. Louis on two hits in six shutout innings to win Friday night. Butler walked three and fanned five, and manager Joe Maddon said after the game that Butler had earned another start, which should occur Thursday at home against Cincinnati. Butler gave up one hard-hit ball in his 94-pitch stint.

They designated him for assignment and then traded him to the Cubs on Feb. 1 for right-handed reliever James Farris. The Cubs also traded international bonus slot No. 28 in that deal for slot No. 94.

Butler threw seven scoreless innings Monday in his last start and finished 4-1 with a 2.58 ERA in his final starts, after correcting a mechanical flaw with help from Albuquerque pitching coach Darryl Scott. "I was just kind of collapsing on my back side," Butler said, "which causes me to not be able to get extension out front. So I wasn't staying on top of the ball. I wasn't driving the fastball through the zone. My offspeed just kind of hung up there. So that's been the big difference is just the fact (I have) late life on my fastball, late life on my offspeed. It's completely turned around (from) where everything was kind of flat."

RHP Eddie Butler was demoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday so that RHP Tyler Chatwood could be reinstated from the 15-day disabled list and inserted back into the Rockies' starting rotation. Butler went just 2-5 with a 6.96 ERA in 12 games (nine starts) this season. His ERA was the second highest in the National League for pitchers who had made at least nine starts.

He served up two two-run homers and has now given up 11 homers in 51 innings this season. His previous high in pitches was 96 on Aug. 8, 2015, at Washington.

RHP Eddie Butler is getting ready for a change as he's expected to start with Tyler Chatwood landing on the disabled list on Sunday due to a back injury. For his career, Butler is 6-14 with a 6.02 ERA as a starter and has never pitched longer than six innings. The 25-year-old has a 6.26 ERA in 10 appearances, including seven starts, this year. However, Butler has three quality starts - six innings and no earned runs against the Giants, six innings and one earned run versus the Pirates and six innings and three earned runs against the Dodgers.

RHP Eddie Butler has been moved into long relief at least through the end of the series with the New York Yankees on Wednesday. The Rockies have been without a long reliever since Thursday when Jorge De La Rosa threw four perfect innings in relief and the decision was made to start on regular rest Tuesday against the New York Yankees. The Rockies recalled LHP Tyler Anderson on Saturday with an eye toward having pitch in long relief. But the Rockies opted to have Anderson start and make his major league debut Sunday instead of scheduled starter Butler because Butler has made some long-relief appearances and Anderson has not. Butler has made two relief appearances this season, pitching 2 1/3 innings and throwing 41 pitches on April 27 in his 2016 Rockies debut and 33 pitches in 2 2/3 innings May 24.

RHP Eddie Butler gave up three runs on four hits in six innings on Tuesday. He struck out four and walked four in his third consecutive start without a decision. Butler's first-inning struggles continued to haunt him but he settled in nicely following a three-run first. It was Butler's third quality stat of the season and all three have come on the road. Butler owns a 3.08 ERA in five games outside of Coors Field this season.

RHP Eddie Butler pitched four innings, leaving after he faced four batters in the fifth. He gave up a career-high-tying 11 hits and a career-high eight runs. The 11 hits included two homers, one triple and four doubles.

RHP Eddie Butler will start Saturday and LHP Chris Rusin will start Sunday in the series finale against the Giants. The order of those two wasn't set, and the Rockies game notes Friday listed Rusin as the Saturday starter with Butler pitching Sunday. Manager Walt Weiss said Rusin was "in play" out of the bullpen Thursday night at Boston. "Even though he didn't pitch, he wasn't able to get his side (session) in. That's why we pushed him to Sunday." Rusin threw a bullpen session Friday.

RHP Eddie Butler knows he needs to pitch well in order to retain his starting position when LHP Jorge De La Rosa and RHP Jordan Lyles return from injuries. He took a huge step in that direction Sunday when he shut out the San Giants on four hits over six innings in the Rockies' 2-0 win. The effort was a marked improvement over Butler's only previous 2016 start since being recalled from the minors, when he tired early and gave up five runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Padres. Butler recorded a career-best six strikeouts Sunday.

RHP Eddie Butler is 4-12 with a 6.15 ERA in 20 career starts.But those numbers would be a whole lot worse if not for his two outings against Sunday's opponent, the San Francisco Giants. Butler has allowed only four runs in 11 1/3 innings against the Giants, good enough for two wins and a 3.18 ERA. Butler, who began this season at Triple-A, will be making just his second start of the year Sunday.

RHP Eddie Butler will make his first start of the season for the Rockies on Tuesday night in the spot of injured LHP Jorge De La Rosa. It will be Butler's second appearance since being recalled from Triple-A on April 27. He gave up a run to Pittsburgh on two hits in 2 1/3 innings on April 27. Butler was 3-10 with a 5.90 ERA in 16 starts for the Rockies last season.

RHP Eddie Butler likely will make his first start this season for the Rockies on Monday in the opener of a series at San Diego, taking the turn of injured LHP Jorge De La Rosa. Butler threw 41 pitches Wednesday night in relief of Jon Gray. Manager Walt Weiss said that lengthy effort wouldn't preclude Butler from starting Sunday, which could have happened before Thursday's game with Pittsburgh was postponed. So the extra day of rest points toward Butler starting Monday, assuming he is not pressed into long relief duty before then. On Wednesday, Butler gave up an infield hit and a two-run double to the first batters he faced before retiring his final seven batters, three on strikeouts, and not allowing a ball to leave the infield. Weiss said, "I thought Eddie did a great job."

RHP Eddie Butler was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque, where in four starts he is 2-0 with a 4.09. He worked six innings in each of his past three starts. Butler relieved starter Jon Gray after 3 2/3 innings and threw 41 pitches while working 2 1/3 innings and allowing one run. The Rockies will have to decide whether Butler or long reliever Christian Bergman, who threw 51 pitches Tuesday night, will start Sunday at Arizona in place of De La Rosa.

Butler was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Jenny Cavnar of ROOT Sports reports.

This comes as no surprise, as Butler has been abjectly terrible this season, and gave up six earned runs in four innings in his last outing against the Mets. It's a cautionary tale in buying into Rockies pitching prospects, or even pitching prospect in general, as Butler was once considered one of the more exciting young arms in the minor leagues. David Hale is expected to take Butler's rotation spot.
