RHP Trevor Gott was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. He was 1-0 in four relief appearances.

RHP Trevor Gott was recalled from Syracuse as the Nationals fortified their bullpen for what manager Dusty Baker expects to be an offensive series at Great American Ball Park, where he previously managed. "We don't need a fifth starter until Tuesday," he said. "In this offensive ballpark, you always want arms. You don't want to start the second half of the season upside down."

RHP Trevor Gott was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. The transaction caps a brief and tumultuous trip to the majors for Gott, who was promoted from Syracuse for the first time this season Monday but gave up five runs over two innings in only two appearances. He absorbed all that damage Wednesday, when he surrendered five runs in 1 2/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves. Gott will return to a late-inning role at Syracuse, for whom he is 2-0 with three saves and a 3.30 ERA in 23 games.

Gott made nine appearances with the Nationals last year after he came over from the Angels in a trade after the 2015 season. Washington entered Tuesday with a bullpen ERA of 5.11, the worst mark in the league.

Gott was 2-0 with a 3.30 ERA in 23 games for Triple-A Syracuse before being called up to Washington. He last pitched for Syracuse on Saturday as he got a two-inning save at Rochester. He was drafted in the sixth round in 2013 by the San Diego Padres. Gott was traded to the Nationals in a deal that sent INF Yunel Escobar to the Angels after the 2015 season. Washington began Monday with the highest bullpen ERA in the National League.

RHP Trevor Gott was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. This is the first trip to the majors this season for Gott, who will likely be used in low-leverage situations down the stretch. Gott went 3-4 with a 4.57 ERA and one save in 35 games this season between Syracuse, Class A Auburn and the Nationals' rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate. He made his major league debut with the Angels last season and went 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 48 games.

RHP Trevor Gott and a minor league prospect to be named were dealt from the Angels to the Nationals on Thursday in exchange for INF Yunel Escobar.Gott, 23, had a 3.02 ERA in 47 2/3 innings of relief for the Angels last season. He was originally drafted by the Padres and was sent to the Angels in 2014 as part of the deal in which Los Angeles acquired RHP Huston Street from San Diego.

Gott is the leading candidate to head the Angels' closing committee for the remainder of the season, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

The Angels, who find themselves a half game behind the Astros in the AL wild-card race, will now have to make do without their closer, as Huston Street suffered what appeared to be a serious groin injury after he needed to be helped off the field in the ninth inning of Sunday's contest. Though Mike Scioscia mentioned that the Angels would likely go with a committee approach to the ninth inning, Gott should rank as the team's top option after emerging as a key setup man for Street in recent weeks. The 23-year-old has posted a 3.07 ERA across 44 innings with the big club this season, although it has come with a rather middling 25:15 K:BB ratio. Along with Gott, look for Fernando Salas and Mike Morin to fill vital roles at the back end of the Angels bullpen.

Gott notched his second win of the season, pitching two scoreless innings in Sunday's victory over the Orioles.

Since being called up from Triple-A, Gott has been excellent, holding a 1.85 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP in 24.1 innings. While he doesn't miss many bats, striking out 12 in that span, he gets plenty of ground ball outs and efficiently works through innings.

Gott is being called up by the Angels from Triple-A Salt Lake, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.

Gott has had an excellent 2015 season in the minors, first getting a promotion to Triple-A thanks to a 3.20 ERA in Double-A Arkansas, then not allowing a run in 8.1 Salt Lake innings. He isn't likely to take over an impact role this season, but at just 22, he could be a promising relief prospect going forward.
