Mon Sep 3 201803:28Cubs welcome stolen-base specialist Gore to expanded roster
It's September, so it's time for Terrance Gore. The 5-foot-7 speedster has resurfaced with the Chicago Cubs, who purchased his contract from Triple-A Iowa when rosters expanded Saturday. Like the Royals previously, the Cubs will have a chance to turn Gore loose on the bases. The 27-year-old outfielder has played in 50 games in his major league career. He has 11 at-bats, zero hits, 14 runs and 21 stolen bases.Gore made his big league debut with Kansas City in 2014 and had a handful of appearances for the Royals over the past four years. He was traded to the Cubs last month, and they brought him up from the minors when rosters expanded. Of Gore's 50 big league games in the regular season, 43 have come after the start of September. When rosters expand, there's more room for a player like Gore, who is about as one-dimensional as they come but can clearly help as a pinch runner. The roster squeeze is tighter in the playoffs, but the Royals kept Gore for their postseason runs in 2014 and 2015.... Sat Feb 24 201817:08After 2-day stay with Pirates, Saunders signs with Royals
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Former All-Star outfielder Michael Saunders has ended his two-day stay with Pittsburgh, instead seeking a better chance to play with the Kansas City Royals.Saunders arrived at the Royals' camp on Saturday after signing a minor league contract. He will receive $1.5 million if he is put on the big league roster and could earn another $500,000 in performance bonuses. The Pirates had signed Saunders to a minor league contract Wednesday and he reported to their spring training complex in Bradenton, Florida. When Pittsburgh acquired outfielder Corey Dickerson in a trade with Tampa Bay on Thursday, Saunders was given his release to pursue other opportunities. The Royals promptly picked up the 31-year-old.Saunders hit a combined .202 last season with the Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies, and Toronto released him after the season. He is a career .232 hitter in 775 major league games over nine seasons, the first six with Seattle. The Kansas City outfield remains in a state... [More]
Mon Feb 19 201817:41Royals hold 1st full workout with several spots up for grabs
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — It wasn't so much about who was on the field for Kansas City Royals' first full-squad workout of spring training. It was more notable who wasn't there.Several cornerstones of the Kansas City teams that reached the World Series in 2014 and 2015 are in other camps or are still looking for places to play.First baseman Eric Hosmer agreed to a $144 million contract with the San Diego Padres. Center fielder Lorenzo Cain signed with the Milwaukee Brewers. Left-hander Jason Vargas, an 18-game winner in 2017, signed with the New York Mets. Third baseman Mike Moustakas, who hit a franchise-record 38 home runs last year, remains unsigned. The Royals clubhouse is full of young, unproven talent pursing a chance to break into the majors or prove they are everyday players."The opportunity is abundant and they know that," manager Ned Yost said. "There's probably a higher level of excitement because of the new guys. I'm interested and excited to see what they bring to the table.""Normally,... [More]

OF Terrance Gore has claimed a spot as a spare outfielder with OF Jorge Soler starting the season on the disabled list. Gore's plus-plus speed is his calling card, but he has improved his defense and offense. He is 0-for-7 in 37 major league games with 19 stolen bases in 21 attempts and 12 runs scored.

OF Terrance Gore had an unusual experience in the ninth inning: He was thrown out trying to steal a base. That had never happened to Gore in the major leagues. He was 9-for-9 in stolen-base attempts this year and 17-for-17 in his career until Cleveland C Roberto Perez threw him out trying to swipe second base in the ninth inning. "They had perfect execution. That's the only way you're going to get Gore, and they pulled it off," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "(RHP Cody) Allen was quick to the plate, and Perez flew out and made a perfect throw. Gore can steal a base when everyone in the park knows he's going, but they just had perfect execution."

OF Terrance Gore has more career stolen bases (16) than plate appearances (nine). The only other player in major league history with more stolen bases than plate appearances is Herb Washington, who was used exclusively as a pinch runner for Oakland in 1974-75. Washington had 31 stolen bases and zero plate appearances. He appeared in 105 games in his career.

OF Terrance Gore is a career .245 hitter in the minors with no home runs and only 35 extra-base hits in 1,270 at-bats.Gore, however, has been called the fastest man in baseball. He has 207 stolen bases and only 19 caught stealing in the minors. He has eight stolen bases and has yet to be caught in the majors."People were wondering why we brought him onto our 25-man roster and that's exactly why," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "He can help you win a game late with his speed."He did that in the 10th inning Sunday in a 4-3 victory over the Twins. He ran for Christian Colon, who led off the inning with a walk, motored to third when reliever Trevor May threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt and scored the winning run on a wild pitch that did not get that far away from catcher John Ryan Murphy.

OF Terrance Gore was dropped from the Royals' roster for the World Series in favor of INF Raul A. Mondesi. Gore stole one base and was caught stealing once in two games during the postseason. In the regular season, he went 0-for-3 with three steals in nine games for Kansas City.
Tue Sep 1 201515:45Gore recalled from Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday
Gore was recalled from Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday.
Gore, just like in 2014, will serve primarily as a pinch runner in late-game situations. Speed is the name of the game for the 24-year-old, who is 39-for-41 on attempted stolen bases this season at the Double-A level. Although Gore was able to bring his batting average up nearly 60 points from last season to .284, he isn't considered to be much of a threat at the plate. He's still worth an add as a cheap source of steals in deeper and only formats, however.

Gore (ankle) has been activated from the disabled list and will return to Double-A Northwest Arkansas, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
Gore has been dealing with an ankle injury for a couple weeks now, but the hope is that is hasn't affected his trademark speed in a major way. He's expected to be a September call-up for the Royals, as the 24-year-old had a noteworthy role during last year's postseason run.

Gore (ankle) is expected to rejoin the lineup at Double-A Northwest Arkansas at some point this week, Paul Boyd of the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.
Gore has been out since late July with the ankle injury, but appears to be nearing the end of his recovery timetable. The speedy 24-year-old, who has stolen 33 bases in 35 attempts at Double-A this season, was an asset off the bench for the Royals during their run to the World Series in 2014. He should receive another call-up to the big club when rosters expand in September.
Mon Jul 20 201513:10Gore placed on 7-day disabled list at Northwest Arkansas due to ...
Gore was placed on the 7-day disabled list at Northwest Arkansas due to an ankle sprain, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reports.
Gore has yet to hit a homer in his professional career, but he does have a .297 batting average, .381 on-base percentage and 33 stolen bases in 71 games for Double-A Northwest Arkansas this year. Assuming he recovers from the ankle injury by September, Gore could help the Royals as a pinch runner and defensive replacement once rosters expand.
Fri Apr 17 201513:42Gore optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Friday
Gore was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Friday, FOX Sports KC's Joel Goldberg reports.
Gore was initially called up to replace Alex Rios (hand) on the 25-man roster, but the Royals have apparently decided that they want a fifth outfielder who can at least hold his own at the plate. Raymond Fuentes has thus been recalled from Omaha to replace Gore, who may not get back to the majors until September, at which point he'll likely be used in the pinch-running role that he thrived in last season. Gore's athleticism shouldn't be mistaken for long-term upside, as his batting statistics have been beyond hideous since he left rookie ball.
Wed Apr 15 201513:06Gore recalled from Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday
Gore was recalled from Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday.
Gore is a burner who can handle center field, but his ability to hit big league pitching is very suspect. Look for his stay in Kansas City to be short as he will essentially take over Jarrod Dyson's pinch running role while Dyson gets some starts in right field with Alex Rios on the 15-day DL.
Tue Apr 14 201517:35Gore pulled from Tuesday's game with Double-A Northwest Arkansas...
Gore was pulled from Tuesday's game with Double-A Northwest Arkansas early, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
The Royals will wait until Wednesday to announce a corresponding move with Alex Rios (hand) landing on the DL, but it's looking like it will be Gore who replaces him on the active roster. Those in AL-only leagues looking for speed should take note, though Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando figure to see most of the time in right field in Rios' absence.
