Fri Aug 13 202109:10Drew Rasmussen Throws Four Innings In No-Decision
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen allowed one run on hit and two walks while striking out four across four innings during Thursday's 8-1 win over the Boston Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision. The 26-year-old threw 50 pitches, landing 33 for strikes. It was his longest outing of the season. Rasmussen owns a 3.81 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and a 29.2K% across 43 innings in 2021. The Rays right-hander allows a 46.4 hard-hit percentage and doesn't go deep enough into games to be considered an option in most league formats. Rasmussen is tentatively scheduled to start against the Baltimore Orioles next week.

Tue Jul 6 202118:08Brewers acquire Tellez from Blue Jays for Richards, Francis
NEW YORK (AP) — Brewers general manager David Stearns addressed a need by trading with a fellow contender for the second time in less than seven weeks. The National League Central-leading Brewers added a power-hitting first baseman, acquiring left-handed hitting Rowdy Tellez from the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday for right-handed pitchers Trevor Richards and Bowden Francis. Tellez, 26, had been with the Blue Jays’ Triple-A Buffalo affiliate after struggling in the majors this season with a .209 batting average, four homers and eight RBIs in 50 games. He hit 21 homers for Toronto in 2019 and had an .886 OPS in 35 games last season. Tellez was expected to be in uniform for Wednesday’s series finale against the New York Mets. “This is a player who has consistently put the bat on the ball and he’s consistently hit the ball hard — those are two pretty good attributes for major league hitters,” Stearns said. “He has a long track record of success in the minor leagues. He got off to a little bit... [More]

NEW YORK (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers acquired first baseman Rowdy Tellez from the Toronto Blue Jays for right-handed pitchers Trevor Richards and Bowden Francis. The Brewers needed some help at first base with Daniel Vogelbach on the injured list due to a strained left hamstring. Vogelbach isn’t expected to return until August. Keston Hiura, who opened the season as the Brewers’ starting first baseman, is batting .161 and already has been sent to the minors twice this season. Hiura showed signs of progress during the Brewers’ recent 11-game winning streak, but he has gone 0 for 7 with six strikeouts over his last two games. Richards, 28, is changing teams for the second time this season. The Brewers had acquired him along with shortstop Willy Adames in a May 21 trade that sent relievers J.P. Feyereisen and Drew Rasmussen to the Tampa Bay Rays. After going 0-0 with one save and a 4.50 ERA in six games with Tampa Bay, Richards was 3-0 with a 3.20 ERA in 15 games with Milwaukee. Francis, 25, is 7-3 with a 3.62 ERA in 11 starts at Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville this season. ___ More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Thu Jul 1 202103:01Willy Adames' offensive outburst sparking Brewers' surge
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers acquired Willy Adames with the idea he would shore up their defense and provide an energy boost in the locker room. Little did they know how much punch he’d provide with his bat. The Brewers had just slipped below .500 when Adames arrived along with reliever Trevor Richards in a May 21 trade that sent relievers J.P. Feyereisen and Drew Rasmussen to the Tampa Bay Rays. They’ve gone 27-10 since and have won eight straight to grab a six-game lead in the NL Central. “I love to win,” Adames said. “That’s what I’m here for.” Adames’ stunning turnaround at the plate has played a big role in Milwaukee’s surge. At the time of the trade, Adames was hitting just .197 with a .254 on-base percentage, five homers and 15 RBIs in 41 games for Tampa Bay. He has batted .280 with a .362 on-base percentage, seven homers and 28 RBIs in 37 games with the Brewers. The 25-year-old Adames says he didn’t make any changes to his swing when he switched teams. The Orioles’ worst losing streak came in 1988 when they lost their first 21 games of the year. “It’s been tough last couple weeks, but we’re trying to keep our head up and trying to keep playing hard,” said Ryan Mountcastle, who homered in a 3-2, 10-inning loss to Minnesota on Monday. The Twins, who have beaten Baltimore 16 straight times, try to extend their string when Michael Pineda (3-2, 2.62 ERA) starts against Bruce Zimmermann (2-3, 5.15 ERA) at Camden Yards. Sat May 22 202100:12Brewers trade 2 relievers, acquire SS Adames from Rays
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The slumping Brewers moved to shore up their infield defense by acquiring shortstop Willy Adames from the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. Milwaukee also got pitcher Trevor Richards from the Rays for relievers J.P Feyereisen and Drew Rasmussen. Adames is hitting .197 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 41 games this year but had an .813 OPS last season while helping Tampa Bay reach the World Series. The 28-year-old Richards has a 4.50 ERA and one save in six relief appearances. “We're acquiring a shortstop who has proven he's one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball," Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns said. The trade surprised Adames, who already had arrived at TD Ballpark for the Rays' game with the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, Florida, when he learned about the move. Adames said he'd “been crying the whole afternoon.” “To get that news out of nowhere, it was tough,” Adames said. “It’s business. You’ve got to see every side of the situation and every... [More]

Fri May 21 202117:02Brewers trade 2 relievers, acquire SS Adames from Rays
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers acquired shortstop Willy Adames in a multiplayer trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. The Brewers also got pitcher Trevor Richards from the Rays for relievers J.P Feyereisen and Drew Rasmussen. Adames (pronounced ah-DAH-mes) is hitting .197 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 41 games. The 28-year-old Richards has a 4.50 ERA and one save in six relief appearances. The move could clear the way for Tampa Bay to bring up Wander Franco, widely considered the top prospect in all of baseball. But the switch-hitting shortstop is just 20 years old, and the Rays also have Taylor Walls and Vidal Bruján at Triple-A Durham. The acquisition of Adames gives the Brewers some help at shortstop, which had been a growing concern. Luis Urías, a first-year starter, is hitting .205 and has nine errors in 38 games. Adames, 25, has a career .254 batting average with 43 homers and 124 RBIs in 332 games. This move cuts into Milwaukee’s bullpen depth. Feyereisen, 28, is 0-2 with a 3.26 ERA in 21 appearances this season. The 25-year-old Rasmussen is 0-1 with a 4.24 ERA and one save in 15 games. ___ More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
