OF Peter Bourjos extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 games with a 3-for-3 outing on Monday, raising his average to .278. It had been as low as .217 before the streak began on June 21, but since then he's 24-for-50 (.480) with 13 runs scored and six more batted in. "Who ever thought Bourjos had a chance to hit .300 at the start of the year?" Phillies manager Pete Mackanin asked. "He's on fire, it's good to see that."

"Just trying not to do too much, not overswinging," he said. "I think that led to better at-bats, and not chasing pitches out of the zone." Bourjos, claimed off waivers in December, hit a career-low .200 as a backup in St. Louis last season. And this year, he said, "It was tough to get going. I felt like I'd take a step forward, then two steps back earlier in the season. It just took a lot of work. Hopefully I can continue to do it, and just have good at-bats and stay relaxed in the batter's box."

He and 'Hendu' (worked) tirelessly on going up the middle and going to right field. It's paid off. He's made adjustments." Bourjos has raised his batting average 70 percentage points in that span, to .262. He is hitting .381 in his last 25 road games with five doubles, two triples, two homers and 12 RBIs.

RF Peter Bourjos had three of the Phillies' 12 hits in their 8-7 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. It was Bourjos' second three-hit game of the week, having recorded two singles and a home run Tuesday at Minnesota. Bourjos is now 11-for-22 in the six games of the Phillies' trip, having hit safely in all six.

CF Peter Bourjos, claimed off waivers by the Phillies from the Cardinals on Wednesday, agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with Philadelphia on Thursday. The contract allows the sides to avoid arbitration. Bourjos, 28, hit .200/.290/.333 with four homers and 13 RBIs in 117 games for St. Louis this year.

Bourjos came off the bench to hit a solo homer in Wednesday's 10-2 win over the Reds.

The speedy outfielder has had to make due in limited opportunities, notching just nine at-bats in September. Bourjos hasn't been able to steal bases or score runs in his limited role, nullifying his fantasy relevance this season.

Bourjos returned to the lineup Saturday against the Cubs, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

The Cardinals were a bit concerned about Bourjos after he took a cleat to the head from Cubs catcher David Ross when he slid home to score the winning run Friday night, but the outfielder passed all concussion tests and was deemed good to go. The start was the first in a week for Bourjos, who seems to have settled into a fourth outfield role with Jon Jay reclaiming regular duties in center.

Bourjos homered, his second, in Tuesday's win over Colorado.

Bourjos had been struggling with left-handers, as he had just a .212 average in 33 at-bats heading into the game. Bourjos is now hitting a solid .263/.336/.421 and is keeping the pressure on Jon Jay and Randal Grichuk for center field playing time.

Bourjos is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

With Jon Jay (wrist) expected back Friday, Bourjos will likely lose some of the extra at-bats he's received over the last two weeks. For the more immediate future, Randal Grichuk will start in center field Tuesday night.

Bourjos is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mets.

Bourjos continues to see most of the starts in center field, but will take a day off Wednesday in favor of Randal Grichuk, who'll bat eighth for the Cardinals.

Bourjos is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Bourjos started 10 of the last 11 games in center field, but he will get a day off after tallying just four hits over his last seven contests. Randal Grichuk will get the start in center field in Bourjos' place.
