The veteran first baseman has been incredible for the Cards this year, slashing .325/.413/.607 to go along with 35 home runs, 109 RBI, and six stolen bases over 499 at-bats. Albert Pujols is taking over at first base in his place and batting clean up.

He went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored in an 8-4 win over the Chicago Cubs. With a 1.036 OPS, 97 runs scored, and 107 RBI on the season, Goldschmidt is the frontrunner to be the National League MVP, and fantasy managers have seen an enormous return on their draft-day investment.

Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Goldschmidt has hit safely in eight of his last nine games with three consecutive multi-hit performances. He has an argument to be one of the very best fantasy values of the season with his 1.056 OPS, 30 homers, 84 runs scored, 96 RBI and five stolen bases in 479 plate appearances.

Fri Jul 29 202214:12Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado Back From Restricted List
The St. Louis Cardinals activated first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and third baseman Nolan Arenado from the restricted list on Thursday, and they'll be available to play on Friday in the series opener against the Washington Nationals after they were unavailable to play in the two-game series in Toronto this week against the Blue Jays because of their vaccination status. Goldschmidt has been a National League MVP candidate this year and has homered in four straight games. In three games after the All-Star break, Arenado has gone 5-for-14 (.357) with three doubles and a run scored. Fantasy managers need to get both players back in their starting fantasy lineups on Friday.

Tue Jul 26 202218:05Paul Goldschmidt Placed On Restricted List
The St. Louis Cardinals have officially placed first baseman Paul Goldschmidt on the restricted list. He will remain on the restricted list during the team's two-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays this week as he is not vaccinated against COVID-19, making him unable to enter Canada. Albert Pujols is getting the start at first base for Tuesday's game. After the Cardinals' two-game series with the Blue Jays, the team is off on Thursday, then they will travel to Washington for a three-game series against the Nationals. So the next time we'll see Goldschmidt on the field will be when the All-Star is well rested on Friday.

Wed Jul 20 202200:35Paul Goldschmidt Homers In All-Star Game At-Bat
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt made his one at-bat count in Tuesday's 3-2 All-Star Game loss to the American League, hitting a solo home run. Goldschmidt crushed a first-inning Shane McClanahan fastball into the left-center seats to increase the National League's lead at the time to two. The veteran has had a resurgent first half even by his standards, slashing .330/.414/.590 with 20 HR, 70 RBI, and five stolen bases. He should continue to be a centerpiece in fantasy managers' lineups for the second half of the season.

Sun Jun 12 202212:33Paul Goldschmidt Resting Sunday
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is receiving a day of rest on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds. It's only the third time that Goldschmidt has been out of the starting lineup this season. The 34-year-old has been an MVP candidate in the National League through the early going in June, as he's slashing an excellent .327/.411/.577 with a .988 OPS, 12 long balls, 47 RBI, 41 runs scored and even three stolen bases in 255 plate appearances and 58 games. Juan Yepez is playing first base and is hitting sixth against Reds right-hander Graham Ashcraft in Goldy's absence. The rookie Yepez hasn't been as good so far in June, going 5-for-23 (.217) with no homers and three RBI in nine games, but he's not a terrible low-cost DFS option on Sunday.

Thanks to his dominant May, he now leads the majors with a 1.054 OPS and he's hitting .353/.429/.625 on the season.

He's currently slashing .402/.462/.768 across the month with six home runs, 12 doubles, 23 RBI and 14 runs. The 34-year-old was a bit sluggish out of the gate this year, posting a .728 OPS in April, but that's a distant memory now that he has a phenomenal .986 OPS over 41 games on the year as a whole.

Wed May 18 202213:49Paul Goldschmidt Has Four Hits With A Homer Tuesday
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt tallied four hits across two games against the New York Mets Tuesday, including a homer and two doubles. He scored one run and drove in three. Goldschmidt now has a ten-game hit streak to his name, with six multi-hit performances in that span. He's slashing .321/.397/.530 with five home runs, 22 runs scored, 23 RBI, and three steals in 151 plate appearances this season. These numbers only represent a slight improvement over Goldschmidt's career marks, and there is no reason to think his production will slow down in the coming months.

Sun May 1 202211:31Paul Goldschmidt Out, Nolan Arenado Back In Sunday
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is taking the day off on Sunday in the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Meanwhile, third baseman Nolan Arenado will return to third base after serving a one-game suspension on Saturday. Arenado is hitting cleanup against Diamondbacks right-hander Zach Davies. Goldschmidt snapped an eight-game hitting streak on Saturday, but he's been solid this year with a .282 average, one home run and 10 RBI in his first 20 games. Albert Pujols is at first base and is hitting fifth, while Corey Dickerson serves as the designated hitter and bats sixth. Arenado should be back in all starting lineups Sunday. He's gone 27-for-72 with five home runs, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored in 19 games so far in 2022.

Mon Apr 25 202223:45Paul Goldschmidt Reaches Three Times Monday
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt got on base three times during Monday's 5-2 defeat against the New York Mets. The 34-year-old was 2-for-5, both singles, with one walk. It brought Goldschmidt's average up to .259, and he's getting on base at a .348 clip. However, his OPS is a lowly .676 as he's still searching for his first home run. Goldschmidt hasn't hit less than 31 HRs over his last four full seasons, so the power drought is surprising. Even with the goose egg in that department, he's still providing value with his two stolen bases and eight runs scored across 15 games. It's too early for fantasy managers to panic, and the veteran should still rack up at least 20 home runs by season's end.

Thu Apr 14 202214:16Paul Goldschmidt Looking For First Home Run
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is still searching for his first home run of the season heading into Thursday's matchup against Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff. Through the first four games, Goldy is 3-for-13 with no RBI, five runs scored, one stolen base, five walks and four strikeouts. Four of his five walks and two of his runs came in the Opening Day win over the Pittsburgh Pirates a week ago. The 34-year-old is known more for his prodigious power, but he also walks at a high clip and should soon begin providing plenty of home run pop for his fantasy managers at the top of the Cardinals batting order.

Sat Apr 2 202213:23Paul Goldschmidt Having An Excellent Spring
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has been red hot this spring, hitting .526 with three homers, seven runs, four RBI, and a steal across just 19 at-bats. In 2021, Goldschmidt turned in yet another excellent season, hitting .294 with 31 homers, 102 runs, 99 RBI, and 12 steals in 158 games. The 12 steals were his most since he swiped 18 back in 2017 as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Goldschmidt has also socked at least 30 homers in four of his past five seasons. The 34-year-old remains a top-five fantasy first baseman heading into 2022.

Sun Oct 3 202116:45Paul Goldschmidt Removed Early In Season Finale
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was removed early on in the team's season finale against the Chicago Cubs. His removal wasn't injury-related. Manager Mike Shildt opted to remove multiple key players early on to rest them. Goldy went 0-for-1 in the game before he was taken out. The 34-year-old veteran got off to a slow start this year, but really came around strong eventually. Over 158 games, he slashed .294/.365/.514 with 31 home runs, 12 stolen bases, 99 RBI and 102 runs. It was his best season with the Cardinals so far by just about every measure.

Thu Sep 30 202112:35Paul Goldschmidt Getting A Breather Thursday
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers. Goldschmidt is having another great year at the plate, as he's slashed .295/.367/.517 with 31 home runs, 98 RBI, 101 runs and 12 stolen bases over 155 games. Infielder Matt Carpenter is getting the start at first and will bat seventh. Carpenter has continued his offensive decline this season, batting .171 with just three home runs across 126 games. He's been even worse off of southpaws, producing a .317 OPS. There is no reason for fantasy managers to stream him, especially against left-hander Brett Anderson.

Tue Aug 31 202102:34Paul Goldschmidt Homers On Monday
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run home run in Monday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. It was the only hit of the day for "Goldy", leaving him 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and two RBI. He has his batting average up to .286 and his OPS up to .833. While he may have gotten off to an overall slow start this season, he's starting to look more and more like the Paul Goldschmidt that everyone is used to and that the Cardinals were hoping for. He's a worthwhile starter in all fantasy formats and has been remarkably consistent in the second half of the season.

Tue Aug 31 202100:07Paul Goldschmidt Goes Deep On Monday
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-3 with a homer and two RBI during a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. The six-time All-Star took Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo deep during the first inning for a two-run blast. The 33-year-old now has 22 homers, 79 RBI, 72 runs, and 10 stolen bases with a .286/.352/.833 line through 497 at-bats. The return of Goldy's prowess on the basepaths is a welcomed sight for fantasy managers, as he averaged over 18 SB during a six-year stretch from 2012 to 2017. Goldschmidt leads the position in stolen bases and has virtually no flaws in his fantasy profile.
