Thu Jun 2 202209:34Marcus Semien Goes 0-For-6 In Wednesday's Loss
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien had a rough game at the plate in Wednesday's loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. In a game that went 11 innings long, Semien went 0-for-6 with three strikeouts. The 31-year-old closed out the month of May on a positive note, recording at least one hit in each of his last five games of the month, racking up a home run, a double and seven RBI over that five-game stretch. He'll need several more streaks like that to help make up for his nightmarish start to the year. Over 48 games, he's slashing .193/.258/.266 with one home run, six stolen bases, 17 RBI and 21 runs.

Sun May 22 202220:30Marcus Semien Extends Hitting Streak Versus Houston
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 against the Houston Astros on Sunday, extending his hitting streak to five games and his on-base streak to eight. One of Texas' big offseason acquisitions, Semien is now slashing .182/.243/.234 with a 17.6 percent strikeout rate and 7.3 percent walk rate. He ranks among the bottom-eight percent of hitters in average exit velocity, hard-hit rate, xwOBA, xBA, xSLG, and barrel rate. On a more positive rate, his 92nd-percentile sprint speed has helped to counteract his otherwise poor metrics. Although he started off slow, the veteran infielder appears to be trending in the right direction as of late.

Thu May 12 202215:35Marcus Semien Getting A Breather Thursday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Kansas City Royals. After a record-setting year last year in Toronto, Semien has had a rough start to his first season in Texas. He has gone hitless in his last 16 at-bats with five strikeouts in the last four games to drop his season line to .165/.228/.217. Semien is still searching for his first home run of the year after clearing the fences a career-high 45 times in 2021, and he's struck out 25 times in 127 plate appearances. Andy Ibanez is starting at second base and is hitting ninth on Thursday, while Eli White is starting in left field and batting eighth against Royals right-hander Jon Heasley. Hopefully, Semien will get his bat heated up sooner than later.

So far this season, Semien is hitting .163 with a .233 on-base percentage and two stolen bases in 103 plate appearances. He's hitting second against the Phillies and right-handed starting pitcher Zack Wheeler. In three career plate appearances against Wheeler, Semien has collected a hit and a walk.

Wed Apr 27 202209:43Marcus Semien Still Searching For First Home Run
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien has been struggling at the plate to kick off his career with his new team. Over 17 games, he's slashing .176/.247/.235 with four doubles, two stolen bases, six RBI and nine runs scored. He has yet to hit his first home run as a Ranger. The 31-year-old has a hard-hit rate of just 25.5% so far this year, down from 41.3% last year. Additionally, his average exit velocity is just 86 mph, a notable decrease from his 89.7 mph average exit velocity last year. Semien is a streaky hitter and he has clearly yet to settle in for the 2022 season. Fantasy managers should remain patient with him and maybe just consider benching him for a week or so until he gets going.

Thu Apr 14 202214:33Marcus Semien Off To Slow Start With Rangers
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien has only two hits in his first 22 at-bats with the Rangers in his first season with the team through the first five games. Semien has led off in two of the five games against left-handed pitchers, while hitting second in the order behind outfielder Brad Miller in the other three games against righties. The 31-year-old may not be able to replicate his monster season with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021 when he hit .265/.334/.538 with a career-high 45 home runs, 102 RBI, 115 runs scored and 15 stolen bases in 162 games, but he should get going eventually for fantasy managers in his new home. Semien and the Rangers will face Los Angeles Angels right-hander Shohei Ohtani on Thursday night.

Sat Apr 2 202213:59Marcus Semien Singles On Friday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 1-for-3 in a 7-7 tie with the San Francisco Giants in Cactus League action on Friday. Semien is having a quiet spring, hitting just .154 with one run and one RBI across 26 at-bats for the Rangers. The veteran infielder signed a huge seven-year, $175 million deal with Texas in the offseason and will slot in alongside Corey Seager in the team's new-look infield. Semien has been one of the top middle infielders in fantasy over the past three seasons, hitting 85 homers over that span. The move from Toronto to Texas will cause some regression in the homer department but Semien should remain a top-five middle infielder in all fantasy formats.

Sun Nov 28 202117:27Marcus Semien Inks Seven-Year Deal With Texas
Free-agent middle infielder Marcus Semien has signed with the Texas Rangers for seven years and $175 million, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Semien is coming off a season in which he finished third in the American League MVP race after slashing .265/.334/.538 with 45 home runs, 15 steals, 102 RBI and 115 runs scored over 162 games with Toronto. Despite entering into a slightly worse lineup with the Rangers than what he had with the Blue Jays, Semien should still be one of the top middle infielders come draft day next season.

Sat Nov 20 202112:10Tigers Considering Javier Baez, Marcus Semien
With free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa's price tag potentially too steep for the Detroit Tigers, they are "considering" Javier Baez and Marcus Semien for the position. The Tigers have multiple needs this year and won't spend $300 million on any one player like Correa. Detroit is transitioning from a rebuild to a team ready to contend, and they already signed left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez to a five-year deal and traded for catcher Tucker Barnhart. The free-agent market at shortstop is stacked this offseason, so the Tigers will have plenty of options on that front. Semien is coming off a career year in Toronto, while Baez finished the year strong with the New York Mets while showing more plate discipline. Either option would be a huge win for the Tigers as they look toward 2022 and beyond.

Thu Nov 11 202120:41Marcus Semien Rejects Qualifying Offer From Blue Jays
Free-agent infielder Marcus Semien rejected the Toronto Blue Jays qualifying offer. The 31-year-old will test the free-agent market after a career year with the Blue Jays in 2021. He slashed .265/.334/.538 with 45 home runs, 102 RBI, 115 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases over 724 plate appearances. The free-agent market for a shortstop is pretty deep and includes Javier Baez, Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, and Trevor Story. Semien is looking for a multi-year contract and is expected to be one of the top shortstops off the board in upcoming 2022 fantasy baseball teams regardless of whichever team he signs with this offseason.

Mon Nov 8 202120:30Marcus Semien Drawing Interest From The Mariners
The Seattle Mariners are showing interest in free-agent infielder Marcus Semien, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. As of now, Dylan Moore is slotted as the team's number one option at the keystone, with J.P. Crawford at shortstop. The Mariners shouldn't be the only team interested in the 31-year old, as he'll be a hot commodity on the market after a career year with the Toronto Blue Jay. He slashed .265/.334/.538 with 45 HRs, 102 RBI, 115 runs, and 15 SBs. It was much prettier than his 2020 season, where he produced just a .679 OPS. Expect Semien to go in the early rounds of fantasy drafts next year, as he's arguably the top second baseman going into next season and could be a five-category contributor.

Sat Nov 6 202119:43Jays Extend Qualifying Offer To Marcus Semien
The Toronto Blue Jays extended a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer to second baseman Marcus Semien on Saturday. The middle infielder will become a free agent if he rejects the offer. Semien had an excellent season in Toronto in 2021, slashing .265/.334/.538 with 45 home runs, 102 RBI and 15 stolen bases, so he's likely to decline the qualifying offer and look to cash in on the open market with a long-term deal. His 45 long balls set a single-season record for home runs by a second baseman. Semien is a year younger than D.J. LeMahieu was when he signed a six-year, $90 million deal to stay with the New York Yankees last year. With the ability to play shortstop, too, Semien will be in high demand, with the Blue Jays, Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies potentially being at the top of his suitor list.

Sat Sep 18 202122:10Marcus Semien Clubs 40th Homer
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien launched his 40th homer of the season on Saturday, helping his club defeat the Twins 6-2. His solo shot off Bailey Ober in the fourth got the scoring started for his club in what became a four-run frame, although it was his only hit of the contest as he went 1-for-5. The 31-year-old is having one of the best offensive seasons across the majors this season with 95 RBI, 106 runs, 15 SB, and a .268/.338/.539 slash line through 148 games played. With two weeks left in the season, Semien will look to keep padding his stats in an already incredible career year.

Mon Sep 6 202116:02Marcus Semien Homers Twice In Win
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien launched a pair of home runs on Monday to help his club defeat the Yankees 8-0 in the series opener. He took Jameson Taillon deep for a solo shot in the first and book-ended his game with a grand slam in the ninth to put the game out of reach, finishing the game going 2-for-5. Semien continues to shine in 2021 with 37 HR, 97 runs, 87 RBI, 14 SB, and a .267 BA in 136 games in what could lead to a big pay day for him this offseason in his contract year. It's now only a question of how gaudy his year-end numbers will look for fantasy with just under four weeks remaining.

Sat Sep 4 202109:30Marcus Semien Hits Walk-Off Homer Friday
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien crushed a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to propel his team to an 11-10 walk-off victory over the Athletics Friday. His 370' shot off Sergio Romo was his only hit of the ball game as he went 1-for-5 in the wild high-scoring contest. The 30-year-old has an impressive 34 long balls on the campaign with 94 runs, 81 RBI, 14 SB, and a .266 BA so far through 133 games played. Managers can expect more quality counting category production from Semien the rest of the way as we enter the final weeks of the season.

Fri Sep 3 202122:39Marcus Semien Comes Up Clutch Friday
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien played hero Friday night, hitting a walk-off three-run home run to beat the Oakland Athletics 11-10 in the ninth inning. It was his only hit in five at-bats, but it was arguably the biggest of the night. Semien has been a key contributor for the Jays all season, slashing .266/.333/.529 with 34 HRs, 81 RBI, 94 runs, and 14 SBs at the top of their lineup. He's a great fantasy asset in every league and is a must-start at a weak second-base position.

Thu Aug 26 202121:36Marcus Semien Homers Twice Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien had a terrific day at the plate on Thursday, going 3-for-5 in the club's 10-7 loss to the White Sox. The 30-year-old started his afternoon off with a bang by taking Carlos Rodon deep in the first for a solo shot before victimizing Michael Kopech in the sixth for a two-run tater. Semien also chipped in with an RBI single to finish his day with four RBI and two runs scored. The free-agent-to-be is putting up a tremendous campaign with 32 HR, 91 runs, 77 RBI, 13 SB, and a .271 BA, it's just a question of how gaudy his year-end counting numbers will look with a over a month of baseball left.

Thu Aug 26 202108:36Marcus Semien Nearing Career-Best Marks
Shortstop Marcus Semien has been fantastic in his first season with the Toronto Blue Jays this year. Over 125 games, he's slashing .267/.333/.523 with 30 home runs, 13 stolen bases, 73 RBI and 89 runs. He set his career-high in stolen bases with 14 in 2018, and the following year, he set his career-high in home runs with 33. He should be able to pass both of those career-best marks soon. Semien currently has a career-best hard-hit rate of 41.6%, up from 28.6% last year. His barrel-rate is also at a career-high mark (9.7%). His .236 xBA is a bit concerning, but he should continue to flourish in all counting stats through the rest of the year.

Wed Aug 18 202121:52Marcus Semien Homers Twice In Loss
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien swatted a pair of solo homers on Wednesday as his club fell to the Nationals 8-5. He finished the afternoon going 2-for-5 in his third game back in his familiar leadoff spot where he's now hit three homers in that span. Semien is hitting .270 on the season with 29 HR, 88 runs, 72 RBI, and 13 steals in 119 games, providing fantasy managers with stellar and consistent five-category numbers in 2021. More of the same production should be expected from the 30-year-old the rest of the way as he finishes off his contract season.

Tue Aug 10 202122:10Marcus Semien Goes 3-For-4
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien had a nice day at the plate during Tuesday's first game of a doubleheader, going 3-for-4 in the team's 6-3 loss to the Angels. The 30-year-old swatted a pair of doubles and stole a base while scoring a run and an RBI as he now has a hit in 15 of his last 17 games since getting moved down into the three-hole. Semien has rewarded fantasy managers this season with solid production in all five categories with 26 HR, 83 runs, 63 RBI, 12 SB, and a .279 BA in 111 games. He's swung a consistent bat all season, so there's no reason to believe he won't continue to produce stellar numbers the rest of the way in his contract season.
