Sat Sep 713:58Jeff McNeil Done For The Season
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (wrist) is done for the season, according to Laura Albanese of Newsday, due to a fractured wrist. The 32-year-old exited Friday's game early after being hit by a pitch in his wrist. The second baseman will now have to wait until next spring to return to the diamond. As a result, the Mets will likely give Jose Iglesias the majority of starts at the keystone down the stretch. McNeil held a career-worst .238/.308/.384 slash line this season with 12 home runs and five swiped bags this summer. Iglesias is worth picking up in all leagues available as he currently sits with a stellar .312 AVG and should continue to see plenty of at-bats down the stretch, providing an excellent batting average with decent counting stats.

Fri Sep 622:15Jeff McNeil Injured On Friday
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (wrist) left Friday's contest early against the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field early due to a right-wrist contusion after he was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning. McNeil will undergo testing on Saturday, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect the former National League batting champion to play on Saturday. The left-handed hitter was 0-for-1 in the eventual extra-innings win over Cincy before being replaced by pinch-hitter Harrison Bader. Veteran Jose Iglesias eventually filled in at second base. The 32-year-old two-time All-Star was never a power hitter and this year has been a drain on fantasy managers' batting average as well despite hitting a league-high .326 in 2022. McNeil came into Friday hitting just .239 with 12 homers and 44 RBI in 128 games. If he's forced to miss additional time, Iglesias will probably pick up more starts at second base.

Mon Aug 1917:22Jeff McNeil Out Against A Lefty
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil retreats to the bench for Monday's series opener against the Baltimore Orioles at Citi Field with a left-hander making the start. With McNeil starting on the bench, veteran Jose Iglesias will start at second base and hit sixth for the Mets against Orioles left-hander Trevor Rogers. McNeil, a former National League batting champion, is batting .248 (25-for-101) on the year against southpaws with only two of his 12 home runs. He has picked things up a bit in the month of August, hitting .261 (12-for-46) with three home runs, five doubles, four RBI, five walks and six runs scored in 15 games played. Iglesias has done nothing but hit since joining the Mets, but he's not going to provide many counting stats for fantasy managers. In 10 games in August, he's gone 12-for-34 (.353) with two doubles and only three RBI.

Tue Aug 609:39Jeff McNeil Continues Power Display
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil hit his 10th homer in Monday's 6-0 win at the St. Louis Cardinals, his sixth since July 1. McNeil's home run was part of a 2-for-4 outing that included two runs scored, continuing a 30-game run where he has hit .321/.368/.628 with five homers, 17 RBI, and 18 runs scored. He is hitting .239/.295/.382 with 37 RBI, 50 runs scored, and five stolen bases in six attempts. Fantasy managers who kept believing in McNeil have been rewarded as his bat is a must-add in all formats.

Wed Jul 2406:50Jeff McNeil Hits Two-Run Home Run On Tuesday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil had a big game in his team's 3-2 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday. McNeil went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs, two RBI, and a walk to help power the Mets to the win over their crosstown rivals. The veteran infielder's homer came in the sixth inning and broke a 1-1 tie, giving the Mets a lead that they would not give back. McNeil is now hitting .225 with nine homers, 40 runs, 32 RBI, and five steals over 311 at-bats this season. He has been swinging a hot bat of late, hitting .364 with four homers and 11 RBI over his past seven games. McNeil is worth a spot in fantasy starting lineups while he is on a hot streak.

Tue Jul 2309:08Jeff McNeil Continues Power Surge
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil swatted his eighth homer in Monday's 6-4 over the Marlins. McNeil connected on a two-run shot off Marlins starter Yonny Chirinos in the top of the second inning, his third in his last four games, finishing 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly that gave him a third RBI. He has hit half of his season's total in July and is now slashing .221/.278/.344 with 30 RBI and 38 runs scored. Fantasy managers hope his recent power surge will continue as McNeil slowly works out of his season-long batting skid.

Sat Jul 2000:59Jeff McNeil Heating Up, Swats Two Homers
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil continued to bounce back in Friday night's loss to the division-rival Miami Marlins, swatting two home runs with three RBI in a losing effort. After hitting a solo shot off Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera to straightaway center field to cut the Mets' deficit to 4-1 in the fifth inning, McNeil blasted his second homer of the game to cut New York's deficit to 5-4 in the sixth frame. It's not a particularly large sample size, but the 32-year-old former batting champion is starting to peek out from the doldrums while batting .303 (10-for-33) with three big flies, three doubles, eight RBI, and one stolen base over his last 12 games. On the strong side of a platoon at the keystone with the righty-hitting Jose Iglesias, McNeil is worth considering in NL-only fantasy leagues with his bat finally starting to heat up.

Fri Jun 2112:06Jeff McNeil Sitting Against Left-Hander
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil will take a seat on the bench on Friday against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field with left-hander Shota Imanaga on the mound. Given McNeil's struggles this year, he's now fallen into the strong side of a platoon at the keystone in New York with veteran Jose Iglesias, who is at second and batting eighth on Friday against Imanaga. McNeil is hitting just .219/.286/.305 with three home runs, 15 RBI, three stolen bases and 27 runs scored in 233 at-bats in 2024. He's actually been better against left-handers, going 18-for-72 (.250) against them with one of his three home runs, while he's batting .205 against right-handers. The two-time All-Star has taken a hard fall this year after winning a batting title in 2022 with the Mets.

Tue May 1412:07Harrison Bader, Jeff McNeil Resting Against Phillies
New York Mets outfielder Harrison Bader and second baseman Jeff McNeil are both sitting out of Tuesday's contest against the visiting division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. With both players starting on the bench, Tyrone Taylor will start in center field and bat seventh, while Joey Wendle will man the keystone and bat eighth against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. Bader has gone 7-for-30 (.233) in 10 games in the month of May and is slashing a mediocre .265/.314/.319 with a homer, seven RBI and five steals in 113 at-bats on the year. McNeil is hitting just .230 on the season and has hit .191 (8-for-42) in 11 games so far in May. Neither Taylor nor Wendle will be very attractive DFS plays on Tuesday in a tough matchup against Nola. Taylor is hitting .400 with an RBI against Nola in his career, but in just five at-bats, while Wendle is hitting .250 with an RBI in 12 at-bats against Nola.

Mon Apr 117:43Jeff McNeil Getting A Rest Day Monday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil is on the bench for Monday's contest against the Detroit Tigers. McNeil went just 1-for-11 over the weekend in the three-game sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers to begin the season, so the Mets are giving McNeil a day off early to regroup. It's not a great sign for the two-time All-Star after he hit .270/.333/.378 a year after winning the National League batting title in 2022. With the 31-year-old on the bench to start the game on Monday, Joey Wendle will take over at second base for the Mets and will hit ninth against Tigers young right-hander Reese Olson. Wendle is more useful for his infield versatility and is a long shot to deliver meaningful offensive numbers in DFS on Monday.

Fri Mar 2912:01Jeff McNeil Batting Cleanup On Opening Day
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil is starting at the keystone and batting cleanup for the Mets on Opening Day on Thursday against Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta. McNeil isn't your typical cleanup hitter with mediocre power, but if he sticks in this position regularly against right-handed pitching, it will give him more opportunities for RBI with Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso hitting in front of him. It's a batting order for New York that probably won't last too long once veteran designated hitter J.D. Martinez gets up to speed after signing with the team late in spring training. The 31-year-old McNeil won a batting title in 2022 but disappointed last year and is still dealing with a partially torn UCL that he's playing through. Aside from a useful batting average, McNeil isn't a lock to help with much else.

Tue Mar 1916:28Jeff McNeil Making Grapefruit League Debut Tuesday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (biceps) is making his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday night versus the St. Louis Cardinals, starting at second base and batting cleanup. The Mets have held McNeil out of big-league spring training action up to this point as he was dealing with left-biceps soreness earlier in camp that was related to the partial tear of his UCL from last year. The 31-year-old left-handed hitter will continue to serve as New York's starting second baseman, which gives him fantasy value in mixed leagues, but outside of a solid batting average floor, McNeil doesn't contribute all that much. McNeil is ranked as RotoBaller's No. 29 fantasy second baseman after slashing a disappointing .270/.333/.378 with 10 home runs, 55 RBI, 10 steals and 75 runs scored in 585 at-bats in 2023.

Sat Mar 1620:45Jeff McNeil To Make Grapefruit League Debut On Tuesday
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil (biceps) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday after missing time due to left biceps discomfort. McNeil will play five innings in a minor league game on Sunday in preparation for his debut on Tuesday. He is expected to be ready for opening day on March 28th when the Mets host the Milwaukee Brewers. The 31-year-old looks to continue to be an important piece to the Mets' lineup after a down year, by his standards, in 2023. He'll look to improve on his .270/.333/.378 slash line from last season and is projected for a .280/.341/.394 slash line in 2024. With a current ADP of 255.7, McNeil will likely only provide value to fantasy managers in deeper leagues.

Thu Mar 1416:02Jeff McNeil Could Play By Sunday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (biceps) could play in a Grapefruit League game by Sunday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. If he doesn't play by Sunday, McNeil should play in a game by next Tuesday. The 31-year-old is scheduled to play defense on Thursday in a minor-league game before facing live pitching in a batting practice session on Friday. The Mets have slow-played McNeil in camp this spring due to issues associated with the partial tear of his UCL that he suffered last year. McNeil is expected to be ready by Opening Day, but his elbow/biceps issue should be a concern after the poor quality of contact he displayed in 2023. He still makes a lot of contact and rarely strikes out, but McNeil doesn't offer much more than a solid batting average in fantasy.

Wed Mar 614:32Jeff McNeil Feeling A Lot Better
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (biceps) is feeling "a lot better" and could be back relatively soon, per skipper Carlos Mendoza. Mendoza added McNeil won't require an MRI or other tests. The 31-year-old has been slowed by the left biceps soreness this spring after his 2023 season ended early due to a partial tear in a ligament in his left elbow and he was cleared for full baseball activity in mid-February. McNeil took a step back at the plate in the 2023 season, hitting .270 with 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases across 156 games. He struck out in just 10% of his plate appearances but also walked just 6% of the time. He has a middling fantasy outlook for the 2024 season with a lack of power the foremost concern.

Sat Mar 212:47Jeff McNeil Delayed By Biceps Injury
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil (biceps) tweaked his left biceps muscle during cage work the other day in camp. The Mets don't think it's a serious injury, but McNeil is nevertheless delayed at spring training at the moment. The 31-year-old left-handed hitter will be held out of action for a few days in hopes that the injury clears up. McNeil still has plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day in late March, but it's just another injury concern. He suffered a partial ligament tear in his left elbow late in 2023 and is going to have to deal with the issue again in 2024. The two-time All-Star won the National League batting title in 2022 but fell off with a .270/.333/.378 slash line with 10 homers, 55 RBI and 10 steals in 156 games last year. McNeil is an elite contact guy, but he doesn't move the needle all that much elsewhere for fantasy managers.

Fri Feb 1613:24Jeff McNeil Cleared For Full Activity
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil (elbow), who ended last year on the injured list due to a partial UCL tear in his left elbow, said that his follow-up MRI in December showed the continued presence of a tear, which is normal. Doctors cleared him for full activity, and he's a healthy player in spring training. First and foremost, the injury is to McNeil's non-throwing arm, which is good news, but it doesn't mean it won't affect him as a hitter if the injury persists in 2024. The 31-year-old should be New York's primary second baseman, but he'll occasionally see time in the outfield. The two-time All-Star won an NL batting title in 2022, but he disappointed with a .270 average in 2023 while still making plenty of contact and rarely striking out. Power isn't a big part of his game, so fantasy managers will be banking on his average bouncing back and that he's healthy in 2024.

Mon Dec 4 202322:20Jeff McNeil To See Majority Of His Time At Second Base
New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said that utility man Jeff McNeil is expected to get the majority of his playing time at second base in 2024, which is why the team is looking to add an outfielder who will play a lot. McNeil played 99 games at the keystone last year but also spent a good amount of time in left and right field for the Mets. It's unclear if the drop in playing time in the outfield in 2024 will cause him to lose outfield eligibility completely for fantasy managers, and his presence at second more often could impact the playing time for youngsters Ronny Mauricio and Brett Baty. The 31-year-old McNeil missed the end of the regular season with a partial UCL tear in his right elbow, but he should be healthy and good to go for Opening Day, barring any setbacks between now and then.

Fri Nov 10 202310:08Jeff McNeil Not Expected To Need Offseason Surgery
New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said this week that infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (elbow) isn't expected to need offseason surgery after he had an encouraging checkup on his left elbow recently. McNeil was diagnosed with a partial UCL tear in his left elbow and was forced to sit out the final week of the regular season. But the 31-year-old won't go under the knife this offseason and should be ready to go for the start of spring training in 2024, barring any setbacks. Instead of having surgery, McNeil is receiving platelet-rich plasma injections. The two-time All-Star had a disappointing batting average (.270) in 2023 given his .298 career average, and he also had 10 home runs, 25 doubles, four triples, 55 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 75 runs scored in 156 games in his sixth MLB campaign.

Thu Sep 28 202321:16Jeff McNeil Has Partial UCL Tear
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (elbow) said he will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection to help the partial tear of the UCL in his left elbow. McNeil was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday, which will end his 2023 season. He and the Mets aren't considering surgery right now, and manager Buck Showalter should be good to go for spring training next year. The 31-year-old's health is one to watch over the winter, and if his injection doesn't fix the issue, he could eventually require surgery that could keep him out for the majority of the 2024 campaign. The two-time All-Star finishes his sixth year with the Mets by hitting .270 (158-for-585) with 10 home runs, 25 doubles, four triples, 55 RBI, a career-high 10 stolen bases and 75 runs scored in 156 games played.
