Mon Jul 8 201320:00Carlos Marmol to pitch at High-A Wednesday
Carlos Marmol will make an appearance with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday.
Marmol was cleared for the minor league appearance after throwing a simulated game in front of manager Don Mattingly and pitching coach Rick Honeycutt Monday. Though the Dodgers have removed him from the 40-man roster, they think they've spotted a mechanical flaw with Marmol and should call him up quickly if he performs in the minors.

Thu Jul 4 201313:23Dodgers outright Carlos Marmol to AAA level
Dodgers sent RHP Carlos Marmol outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Marmol passed through waivers without drawing a claim and accepted an assignment to the minors on Thursday morning. The right-hander will try to work his way into the Los Angeles bullpen with a strong showing in the Pacific Coast League. He had a 5.86 ERA in 27 2/3 innings with the Cubs before they traded him (and cash) to Los Angeles for reliever Matt Guerrier on July 2. The Dodgers then designated Marmol for assignment.

Ken Gurnick of MLB.com hears that the Dodgers have not designated Carlos Marmol for assignment.

Wed Jul 3 201311:34Dodgers designate Marmol for assignment
Dodgers designated RHP Carlos Marmol for assignment.
The Dodgers just acquired Marmol from the Cubs on Tuesday in exchange for Matt Guerrier, but they mostly did it in order to receive additional international signing bonus money. The erratic reliever will almost certainly pass through waivers, so the Dodgers could convince him to stick around in the minors.

Tue Jul 2 201314:59Dodgers to send Carlos Marmol to minors
ESPN's Keith Law hears that the Dodgers are expected to send Carlos Marmol to the minors for a few outings.
Marmol was acquired from the Cubs on Tuesday (along with international bonus money) for Matt Guerrier. The erratic right-hander has struggled with his control for a long time, but it's not a bad gamble for Los Angeles. They'll try to get him back on track against lesser competition before bringing him up from the minors.

Tue Jul 2 201314:05Dodgers acquire Carlos Marmol from Cubs
Dodgers acquired RHP Carlos Marmol and cash considerations from the Cubs for RHP Matt Guerrier.
The cash considerations include international signing bonus slot No. 92, which is valued at $209,700. Marmol was designated for assignment by the Cubs last week after posting a 5.86 ERA and 32/21 K/BB ratio in 27 2/3 innings this season, but the Dodgers will take him on as a reclamation project. No word on how much of Marmol's salary will be covered by Chicago.

Mon Jul 1 201317:25Dodgers close to acquiring Carlos Marmol
ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine was told by two sources that the Dodgers are close to acquiring Carlos Marmol from the Cubs.
Marmol was designated for assignment by the Cubs last week, but multiple teams have shown interest in taking him on as a reclamation project. It's not known who the Cubs would receive in return, but Levine hears that the Dodgers will absorb some of the $5 million still owed to Marmol for this season. Accomplishing that would be a win from the Cubs' perspective.

Fri Jun 28 201314:16Three teams interested in Carlos Marmol
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that three teams have shown interest in Carlos Marmol.
Cafardo didn't reveal which teams, but it's not surprising that someone is willing to take a shot on him righting the ship. He'll almost surely clear waivers before signing on cheaply somewhere.

Tue Jun 25 201312:32Cubs designate Carlos Marmol for assignment
Cubs designated RHP Carlos Marmol for assignment.
The Cubs were hoping to spin Marmol in a potential trade this summer, but that scenario has become less and less likely over time. The erratic right-hander has posted a 5.86 ERA and 21 walks in just 27 2/3 innings this season. Still owed about half of his $9.8 million salary, he'll almost certainly pass through waivers unclaimed.

Sun Jun 16 201316:25Carlos Marmol melts down on Sunday
Carlos Marmol had another Marmol meltdown Sunday, yielding four runs while recording just one out in a loss to the Mets.
With Kevin Gregg unavailable, Marmol was tasked with protecting a 3-0 lead in the ninth, but the only out he was able to record was on a sac bunt. Marlon Byrd took him deep to lead off the inning, Lucas Duda drew a walk, John Buck knocked a single and Kirk Nieuwenhuis sent everyone home with a long walk-off homer. Marmol now holds an ugly 6.08 ERA and 1.72 WHIP for the season. The Cubs are hoping to trade him at the deadline, but it's hard to imagine anyone being interested.

Tue Jun 11 201310:35Marmol has civil suit dropped against him
Carlos Marmol said Monday that a civil suit against him in his native Dominican Republic was dropped.
Marmol was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in January, but denied any wrongdoing and brought a countersuit alleging extortion. Police investigated the woman's claim, but found insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges. Marmol did not pay a settlement to resolve the case.

Sun Jun 2 201301:15Carlos Marmol gives up four runs in loss
Carlos Marmol took his third loss after walking three and giving up four runs in one-third of an inning Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
Marmol pitched really well for most of May, allowing one run and just two walks in 9 1/3 innings in his last nine appearances, but most of those gains were wiped out tonight. He doesn't seem like a very good bet for saves at this point.

Thu May 30 201313:11Marmol unlikely to retun to closer role
Cubs manager Dale Sveum suggested that Carlos Marmol is unlikely to return to the closer role this season.
"I hope not," Sveum said when asked if he thought there's a scenario where Marmol could be the closer again. With Kyuji Fujikawa out for the season, Marmol will remain in a setup role to Kevin Gregg . The 30-year-old right-hander has a 4.05 ERA in 22 relief appearances.

Mon May 13 201323:32Carlos Marmol gives up homer mopping up
Carlos Marmol gave up a Josh Rutledge homer in the ninth inning Monday to ruin the Cubs' shutout bid in a 9-1 win over the Rockies.
Marmol appeared on the verge of getting another look in the closer's role late last month before Kevin Gregg took over the job. He's given up four runs in 4 1/3 innings during May, and he'd seem to be behind both Gregg and Kyuji Fujikawa in line for save chances now.

Sat May 4 201317:30Carlos Marmol implodes as Cubs fall to Reds
After being handed a 4-2 lead, Carlos Marmol imploded in the eighth inning on Saturday, surrendering three runs without recording an out.
Marmol entered the game and promptly walked Zack Cozart on four pitches. He followed that up with a five-pitch walk to Joey Votto to put the tying run on base. After getting ahead of Brandon Phillips 1-2, he hit him with a pitch to load the bases and was immediately pulled from the game. Hector Rondon came on in an effort to stop the bleeding, and allowed all three inherited runners to score. He's unlikely to see any save chances in the immediate future.

Thu Apr 25 201322:55Carlos Marmol records second save of season
Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless ninth in a one-run game to earn a save Thursday against the Marlins.
Marmol walked Donovan Solano and gave up a single to Austin Kearns to start the ninth, but he rebounded to get Juan Pierre to ground out and Placido Polanco to fly out before he struck out Giancarlo Stanton to end it. Consider Marmol to be the favorite for saves in Chicago once again. Just don't expect anything to come easy.

Tue Apr 23 201300:10Carlos Marmol goes two scoreless
Carlos Marmol pitched two more scoreless innings Monday and has now gone seven straight innings without allowing a run.
Marmol did walk two tonight, but he's always walked plenty of batters. The problem when he imploded during the first week of the season was that he gave up six hits, two of them homers, in 1 2/3 innings. He's allowed just two hits in the seven innings since. It's quite possible he'll get a save opportunity soon.

Tue Apr 16 201310:32Marmol could return to closer role with Cubs
Cubs manager Dale Sveum hasn't given up on the idea of Carlos Marmol returning as the closer.
Marmol has delivered four straight scoreless appearances since being removed from the closer role, which has Sveum thinking about giving him another chance. "I would be lying to you if he wasn't working his way back into it," said Sveum. "He is throwing strikes and he is throwing his slider more and he's more consistent. So, yeah, he's working his way back. That was part of the deal." Sveum is relying on a committee approach with Kyuji Fujikawa (forearm) sidelined, but Shawn Camp blew a save Sunday and James Russell is primarily a matchup play. Marmol is worth a speculative add if you're desperate for saves, but there's no reason to think that he'll suddenly turn things around.

Mon Apr 8 201314:44Cubs not giving up on Marmol as closer
Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago reports that the Cubs long-range plan for Carlos Marmol includes returning him to the closer's role.
Marmol was replaced by Kyuji Fujikawa as closer on Saturday after blowing a save, but the Cubs haven't ruled out him eventually returning to the job. "We want him to be our closer," pitching coach Chris Bosio said. "He understands the position he's in right now. We are going to put him where he can succeed."
