RHP Corey Kluber showed no signs of the sprained right ankle that forced him out of his last start in the sixth inning. On Wednesday night, Kluber was Kluber again, pitching 7 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on four hits, with 12 strikeouts and one walk. But he still got tagged with the loss. "We knew coming in it was going to be a battle, and we would have to grind out at-bats," OF Brock Holt said. "Fortunately, we were able to do that, but he's pretty good."

RHP Corey Kluber threw a bullpen session minutes before the game Sunday to check out his right ankle, which he sprained Friday while covering first base in the sixth inning. Indians manager Terry Francona said it went really well with "no restrictions." Francona said Kluber would make his next scheduled start on Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox. Kluber is 12-3 with a 2.67 ERA in 21 starts.

RHP Corey Kluber is scheduled to start Wednesday against the Red Sox, but that is questionable. Kluber left after spraining his right ankle covering first base in the sixth inning Friday against the Royals. "He's a little stiff, which I think is normal, but not more than that," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "So, I think (Kluber) thinks he'll make his start. I think the trainers think it's probably 50-50. Which, I guess the good part of that is, 'okay, if he doesn't,' and we'll make plans in case he's not ready. But, maybe he gets backed up a day or two. And I think that's probably the worst case scenario. So, it'll all depend on what he's able to do tomorrow ... he needs to start preparing for his start, and I think sometimes if you can't prepare for it, it probably behooves us to move him back a little bit and let him have a normal five-day cycle."

RHP Corey Kluber left in the sixth inning with a mild lower right ankle sprain while covering first base. If he throws a side session with no problems, he will not miss a start. If he has any issues, manager Terry Francona said Kluber would be pushed back a start. Kluber is 5-0 in eight starts since a July 4 loss.
Sat Aug 19 201702:24MLB roundup: Kluber injured in Indians' win
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jay Bruce homered twice and drove in five runs as the Cleveland Indians battered the Kansas City Royals 10-1 Friday night. It could, however, be a costly victory for the Indians. Corey Kluber won his fourth straight August start, but the Indians' ace pulled up lame while running to cover first base on Eric Hosmer's sixth-inning infield single. That prompted a visit from manager Terry Francona and the trainer. Kluber stayed in the game for one more batter, a Melky Cabrera single, before being led off the field by the trainer. Kluber was diagnosed with a right ankle sprain.Bruce hit a two-run homer in a three-run first inning off Ian Kennedy and a three-run blast in the seventh inning off rookie Jake Junis. It was Bruce's 25th multi-homer game and his eighth game of at least five RBIs.Dodgers 8, Tigers 5 DETROIT -- Chris Taylor banged out four hits, drove in two runs and scored once to lead steamrolling Los Angeles to a victory over Detroit, their fifth straight win and... RHP Corey Kluber gave up a home run to OF Charlie Blackmon leading off the game and a single by 2B DJ LeMahieu. After that Kluber retired 26 of the last 27 batters he faced. He struck out 11 and did not walk a batter. He struck out the side in order in the ninth inning. "I threw one right in (Blackmon's) wheehouse. Second pitch of the game and I've put the team in a hole. But I tried to brush it off and go back to work. We still had 27 outs, and we used them all," said Kluber. "And that's against some kind of lineup," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "He gives us a home run, a single _ and then nothing. I just wish we could have scored some runs for him earlier so he was happy. He spent 2 ½ hours being grumpy, until the end."
